Victims of Nazi death camps honored in Belarus’ Trostenets To honor the memory of those who faught for their Motherland. A meeting was held in Trostenets,where the victims of Nazi death camps were rememered. School students laid flowers to the monument and installed memorial signs with the names and surnames of Minsk resistance fighters. It was quite symbolic, because on September 2, 1945 the Second World War came to an end.

Holocaust victims monument opens in Belarus' Rudensk Monument to the victims of the Holocaust was opened on July 24 in Rudensk. At this place in 1941, 190 Jews were brutally tortured and shot. Polish and Belarusian veterans gather in Grodno in remember WWII times They fought shoulder to shoulder and did not see each other since the end of the Great Patriotic War (1945). A meeting of Polish and Belarusian veterans took place in Grodno. 40 people came from the neighboring country within the framework of the 32nd All-Polish Meeting of the Regiment's Sons. Many of the veterans were born in Belarus and met the war as children in guerilla units.

Belarusians commemorate WWII victims on day of Nazi invasion 76 years ago June 22 was the day WWII began for the USSR. Belarusians have remembered the victims of the Great Patriotic War, which is how that part of WWII is called in Soviet history. 76 years ago, Belarus was the first to repel the attack of Hitler's military machine. Hundreds of people gathered at Victory Square in Minsk at dawn on June 22. Officers, cadets and youth honored a minute of silence of the fallen soldiers and laid wreaths and fresh flowers to the obelisk in the city center.

Great Patriotic War Museum opens transportable exhibition devoted to Belarus’ liberation Soon, a transportable museum of the Great Patriotic War will start its journey to tell everybody the story of our heroes. 30 square meters can make you become a witness to the events of the liberation of Belarus from September 1943 to July 1944. The attention is concentrated on the heroes of the war who made our peaceful lives possible. Operation Bagration became one of the two most outstanding battles of World War II. Pilots, tank crew members, artillery men presented us with freedom. On July 3, 1944, Minsk was freed.

Belarus' Brest re-enacts first days of Great Patriotic War of 1941 (video) The feat of the defenders of the Brest Fortress has been inscribed with golden letters in the annals of the history of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). The garrison of the Brest Fortress was the first to be hit by the powerful Nazi machine.  Thousands of Belarusians and guests of the country come to the Brest Fortress on June 22 to remember how WWII spilled over into Belarus in 1941. The events of the early morning of 22 June 1941 were re-enacted and the show seemed to leave everyone impressed.

Large-scale WWII Soviet offensive reenactment staged in Gomel on May 9 A large-scale battle reenactment took place in Gomel today. On the renovated embankment of the river Sozh spectators could hear gunshots, explosions of grenades and triumphant shouts "Hurrah!"  The battle reenactment recreated the events of the war: a column of Soviet troops is facing a difficult resistance from the retreating Wehrmacht.  They were shooting blanks here, but emotions of both actors and the audience were quite real.

Victory Day events held in Paris May 9 Commemorative events in honor of Victory Day took place in France on May 9.  Representatives of various diplomatic missions gathered at a memorial complex dedicated to Soviet war prisoners. Among the flags was also the one of Belarus. Also, representatives of the Belarusian delegation paid tribute to the heroes of World War II. The Great Patriotic War is part of WWII and is mainly celebrated in Belarus and other FSU countries.

International forum in Minsk commemorates WWII victory These days, Minsk has become a venue for a large-scale international forum. Representatives of the CIS, the Baltic and Georgia - all in all about 200 participants - are taking part in it.   It is not a coincidence that Minsk was chosen as a venue. The Belarusian capital bears the title of the Hero City. All in all, only 12 cities of the former Soviet Union bear it. In addition, Belarus lost every third citizen in that terrible war.

It was Joseph Stalin. The head of the Soviet Union rarely left the country, but it was a special case then.

Nazism victims' memory honored in Belarus' Trostenets Minsk last week once again become a platform for reflection on the need to draw lessons from the past and avoid armed conflicts. Foreign diplomats, veterans and clergy gathered for an international rally in memory of victims of the Nazi death camp Trostenets, where 200,000 people were killed. At the site of the former death camp now stands the monument "The Gates of Memory" and the three elm.

Building of Trostenets memorial complex to be resumed in summer 2016 The building of the Trostenets memorial complex will be resumed in summer 2016.  According to the plan, the urochishches (natural boundaries) Blagovschina and Shashkovka are to be renovated. These areas were the parts of the Maly Trostenets Nazi death camp, located in the suburbs of Minsk in the Great Patriotic War. To commemorate the deceased prisoners, the experts collected the earth from the most historically significant places of Trostenets. Later, the capsule with these samples will be put in the crypt of the All Saints Memorial Temple.

Austria hands WWII documents to Belarus Belarus has received documents that open a new page in the history of the Second World War. These are copies of deportation lists of citizens of Austria, who died in the death camp Trostenets, which was located on the territory of the present-day Belarus.  The tragic list includes several thousands of names, and only a few dozen managed to escape from the concentration camp.

After 75 years, KV-1 tank found in Vitebsk region’s marsh Who knows how many mysteries the Vitebsk region is hiding? One of them was cleared up several days ago. A Great Patriotic War military vehicle was found in the Senno district, Vitebsk region, and locals had to engage into a true rescue mission to dig up some of its parts! A heavy Kliment Voroshilov tank, also known as KV-1, was found in a marsh. It’s the first such finding in Belarus, which is literally sensational. The tank was in the marsh for 75 years.

Prayer for Belarus: ceremony at the Memorial Church of All Saints in Minsk This week the Memorial Church of All Saints in Minsk hosted an incredibly beautiful and symbolic "Prayer for Belarus". It so happened that our country was constantly at the intersection of all the world's wars. These winds of history scattered Belarusians around the world. Many of them never returned home. Last Friday, 7 capsules with earth from places where Belarusians died during WWII were brought to Belarus.  The symbolism of candles lit in the Church of All Saints on Friday was obvious: peace is fragile.

All-China Youth Federation visits Brest Fortress "Belarus is a country of friendship and national reconciliation." Such was the motto of the meeting of the Chinese delegation with Belarusian boys and girls. Brest was visited by representatives of one of the largest organizations of the world - All-China Youth Federation uniting more than 300 million people.  Belarusian and Chinese youth discussed such topics as support to gifted children, joint projects and, of course, historical memory.

Alexander Lukashenko takes part in opening ceremony of Trostenets memorial complex The memorial complex "Trostenets" was opened on June 22, on the anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in Belarus. By the number of the dead, the concentration camp, which was located in this place, was on a par with Buchenwald and Auschwitz. During the Great Patriotic War, more than 200 thousand people were killed here.  Brest also welcomed Patriarch Kirill, who was on a visit in the complex. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church served a memorial prayer service at St. Nicholas Garrison church.

Geely cars taking part in WWII commemorative auto rally On May 26, the National Library of Belarus welcomed participants of an unusual rally dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the major historic date of the XX century. The column featured cars assembled jointly by Belarus and China. The distance of hundreds of kilometers become a kind of test for the cars that are ready to conquer the market. 15 auto experts arrived from Russia in Belarus as part of the car rally dedicated to the Great Victory in WWII. The Russian journalists are testing Geely cars on Belarusian roads.

Kazakhstan presents WWII book One Victory For All in Minsk One Victory For All book on WWII was presented by Kazakhstan in Minsk May 20. The publication is dedicated to the people of Kazakhstan who fought on our soil during the Great Patriotic War. The book provides biographical information and photographic portraits of 83 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Kazakhstan who were awarded the title in the fighting on the territory of Belarus.

Chinese president awards Belarusian WWII veterans with Medals of Peace Chinese President Xi Jinping has awarded Medals of Peace to 15 Belarusian veterans who took part in the fight against Japanese aggressors at the end of the Second World War. A solemn ceremony was held in the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, where Xi Jinping was personally accompanied by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. The two leaders made several stops in the museum halls.

President Lukashenko presents state awards on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory Alexander Lukashenko presented state awards on May 7. On the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, the meeting was particularly solemn and symbolic. The ceremony brought together representatives of veterans' organizations and participants of WWII. Belarus has a special attitude to those who 70 years ago gave the country peace. Some 39 people received awards from the President of Belarus: veterans from across the country and the current defenders of the Fatherland.

Minsk-Brest youth agitation train "Colors of the Great Victory" commemorates WWII glory The youth agitation train "Colors of the Great Victory" has returned to Minsk. It traveled for nearly two weeks to places of military glory in Belarus. The train's latest stop was Brest. The Belarusian city plunged in the atmosphere of the days of the liberation of Belarus during WWII.  On the platform, the train was met by hundreds of people.
CTV channel presents modern TV set to WWII veteran Maria Platonova On the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, the CTV channel joined congratulations to the veterans. This time the gift went to Maria Platonova, who now lives in a boarding house for veterans and the disabled. The woman was visited by CTV presenters and TV crew. Maria Stepanovna does not like to remember about the horror days of war. She was 18 when she first took part in a war. She trained in the central female snipers school and was chosen for this role from a number of candidates.

CTV correspondents congratulate veterans on 70th anniversary of Great Victory Veterans of the Great Patriotic are in the center of attention these days. The elderly are thanked for the Great Victory they celebrated for the first time 70 years ago.  The CTV staff also tried to find people who for various reasons were left unattended by close relatives. On April 30, the channel's news anchor visited Ivan Danilchenko from Vitebsk. And of course we prepared a gift for him. Ivan Petrovich is 89. At the age of 18, he had already liberated Kiev from Nazi invaders. The paratrooper made 75 jumps.
