Belarusian tennis players won three matches during the first and second days and, being 3-0 ahead, turned the last two ties into pure formality. However, Belarus were still motivated. Dmitry Zhirmont and Yegor Gerasimov also celebrated victories to make it 5-0 overall.

Ireland and Belarus tennis teams
Belarus beat Ireland in opening round of Davis Cup Euro-African Group II The men's tennis team of Belarus has successfully entered the next round of the Davis Cup Euro-African Group II. Ireland were Belarus' opponents in that round. After two singles victories on March 6, Belarus were to win the doubles match. The task was not easy but doable. Sergey Betov and Alexander Buryi beat James Cluskey and David O'Hara in four sets: 7:6, 5:7, 6:3, 6:4. On March 8, two singles matches will be held, though they are just a formality.

You should move from where you stand, always keep the ball close to the racket”. Tennis from childhood, or how to bring up a new Azarenka and Mirnyi? It is better to start at the age of four: at this age children still don’t have good coordination of movements, so exercise of this type will help them develop dexterity and attentiveness.

Belarusian tennis player Nika Shytkouskaya: I would like to be in top 100 of the world Nika Shytkouskaya, the girls’ U16 Belarusian Tennis Championship, vice champion of the Republic of Belarus:My father Sergei Shytkouski is a famous Belarusian ice hockey player. That’s how it is in our family: sport is life. My mother used to play handball. I have a younger brother; he wants to play ice hockey too. In my childhood, I played different kinds of sports. But now I know for sure tennis is my whole life.

Alexander Zgirovsky, Belarus’ young tennis star Alexander Zgirovsky is a multiple winner of the Belarus tennis championship. Yet he is 14 year old. He believes that in the country of Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi, he can become a renowned sportsman. On 6 February, there started the first qualification round of the Tennis Europe Winter Cup. Alexander believes he has a chance to win the tournament. Alexander Zgirovsky has already won international tournaments. He is Europe’s No.3 in the U14 category in tennis.

Belarusian women's tennis team: Four wins in Fed Cup's Group 1 Euro-African zone Four matches - four confident victories. Such is the result of the Belarusian women's national tennis team matches in the first Euro-African zone of the Fed Cup. Now our girls have got the right to compete for a place in World Group 2. A day ago, the Belarusian team returned from Budapest and were received with applause at the airport. The girls looked tired but were still willing to share their experiences.

Belarusian tennis players into Fed Cup World Group II playoffs The national tennis team of Belarus will play in the playoff for the right to enter the World Group II of the Fed Cup. On February 7, in Hungary, the Belarusian tennis players had a decisive match of the first group of the Euro-African zone. Belarus met team GB and needed only a win. And our girls achieved it. First, Olga Govortsova defeated Johanna Konta 6:0, 6:1. And then Victoria Azarenka, also in two sets, prevailed over Heather Watson 6:4, 6:1. The Belarusians will find out their playoff opponents on 8 February, after the end of the matches in World Group II.

Belarus starts in Fed Cup against Georgia The women's tennis team of Belarus has started today their matches of the 1st group of Euro-African zone of the Fed Cup in Budapest. In the first match of the preliminary Group C Belarusians play against Georgia.

Azarenka in Belarus Fed Cup team It became known who will participate in the matches of Europe/African zone Group I of the Fed Cup, which will be held in Budapest, Hungary from 4 to 7 February. The first number in the national team of Belarus is Victoria Azarenka (42 WTA). The team also includes Alexander Sasnovich (143 WTA), Olga Govortsova (149 WTA), Irina Shimanovich (448 WTA), the team captain - Tatiana Poutchek.

Brisbane International: Victoria Azarenka loses opening match in 2015 Belarusian Victoria Azarenka has lost her opening match of 2015, the year which she was hoping to start from scratch forgetting about a disastrous 2014. Azarenka, however, lost to Czech Karolína Plíšková in the first round of the Brisbane International in Australia. Victoria Azarenka v Karolína Plíšková: 6:4, 7:6 (9:7), 6:4. The former No.1 in the WTA rankings won the first set (6:4) and had a match-ball in the tiebreak in the second set but was unable to use it. Victoria Azarenka lost the second set with a score of 6:7.
Belarus' Olga Govortsova leaves singles in China Belarusian tennis player Olga Govortsova suffered a defeat in the first round of the main stage in the tournament in Shenzhen, China (prize fund - 500 thousand dollars). Today Govortsova (world number 149) was beaten by Tereza Smitkova (69) from the Czech Republic in the match of 1/16 final - 6:3, 3:6, 3:6. The meeting lasted two hours. Olga Govortsova got in the singles main draw by winning two matches of qualification with Yafan Wang (180) from China - 4:6, 6:3, 6:4 - and  Magda Linette (133) from Poland - 6:7(4:7), 6:2, 6:2.

Govortsova will play with Tereza Smitkova (69) from the Czech Republic in the match of the first round of main draw.

Domracheva named second best athlete of 2014 Belarusian biathlete Darya Domracheva lacked a few points from being named the best athlete of the year by the International Sports Press Association. According to the results of voting among journalists from 91 countries, the three-time Olympic champion won second place.  American tennis player Serena Williams tops the list. Norwegian skier Marit Bjørgen took third place.
