Belarus-UEFA project: New stadium with artificial turf opens in Brest
Training in any weather. A new football field with artificial turf opened in Brest. The project is part of an international program Belarus is implementing with UEFA.
As part of the UEFA program, Belarus Football Federation creates at least one such field in one of the six Belarusian regions. Across the country, there are more than 20 such pitches. The project cost is about 10 billion Belarusian rubles.
Augustow Canal hosts first Belarusian swamp football championship
Swamp football is an exotic sport for Belarusians. On August 22 the first championships in this sport was held on Augustow Canal.
About 20 teams took part in the competition. The winners were determined not only by points earned but also by how dirty players are.
Swamp football as a separate sport appeared in the Nordic countries 15 years ago. Today, it is popular in almost all over Europe. Rules of the game are a collection of various sports: from professional football to rugby and even ice hockey.
Belarus claims 10 medals at 2015 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships
The 2015 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships finished in Italy's Milan where Belarusians were almost equal to none.
Out of Belarus' 10 medals are 5 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze. Belarusians won 12 Olympic licenses for the Rio Games.
The adult team will rest for a while but the youth will now have to leave for the next cup. For athletes, every tournament is another chance to better prepare for the forthcoming Olympics.
International ice hockey tournament for HC Dinamo prizes ends August 23
The international ice hockey tournament for the prizes of HC Dinamo Minsk gathered at the Palace of Sports in Minsk 15-year-old athletes from Latvia, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
The Ukrainian player Petro Dovgan says this tournament is a good opportunity to learn something new and prepare for the forthcoming season.
15-year-old HC Dinamo Minsk won the tournament and supported the high playing standards of their senior colleagues, who are now playing in the KHL.
Belarus women 2nd at 2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 European Championships in Minsk
The 2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 European Championships have finished in the Belarusian capital Minsk on August 23. The competitions lasted three days.
16 teams in the men's and women's events competed for victory. For Belarusians, 3x3 basketball is quite a new sport.

Junior's international tournament for HC Dinamo Minsk prizes to begin August 21
Minsk will bring together future ice hockey stars for the fifth time. On August 21 an international tournament among juniors for the prizes of Dinamo Minsk starts in the Belarus capital.
Juniors born in 2000 will compete at the small ice arena of the Palace of Sports. Taking part in the competition will be teams from Minsk, St. Petersburg, Kiev and Riga.
Fifteen matches are scheduled. Besides cups and medals, four players will receive the titles of the top scorer, defenseman, goalkeeper and striker.

FC Dinamo Minsk are one foot in Europa League group stage after beating FC Red Bull Salzburg 2-0 at home in Brest in the first leg of the Europa League playoff.
On 57 minutes, Gleb Rassadkin opened the scoring. In the second half he had a very good chance to make a double but narrowly missed in a one-on-one chance.
However, Dinamo doubled the lead a few minutes after that chance. Nenad Adamovic was closest to the loose ball, which bounced off the Salzburg goal's post and tapped it in for a 2-0 scoreline.
Belarusians scoop silver at Modern Pentathlon European Championships

BC Tsmoki Minsk preparing for new season after summer breaks

Palova Arena in Minsk to host the 2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 European Championships
Tomorrow, on August 21, Minsk will play host to the 2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 European Championships.
Preparation actually took two weeks. Boys and girls have been training hard and are getting used to the 3x3 arena.
“According to the competition rules, coaches will not be able to help their charges with advice,” says Andrei Pavlenko, coach of Belarus U18. “Our task is to teach them to make right decisions on their own.” He admits that psychological pressure is high prior to the start.
FC Dinamo Minsk to face Red Bull Salzburg in Europa League playoff August 20
On August 20, Dinamo Minsk play their first match of the play-off of the UEFA Europa League. The White-Blues play Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg. The game will take place in Brest (the Belarusian capital currently doesn't have its own stadium of the appropriate level).
If Dinamo win in this two-leg tie, they will get into the Europa League group stage for the second time in the history. The return leg will be played on August 27.

Victoria Azarenka defeats Lauren Davis at Cincinnati WTA tournament
Victoria Azarenka (WTA No21) has qualified for the second round of the tennis tournament in Cincinnati (USA) with a prize pool of $2,400,490.
On August 18, in the 1/32 final, the Belarusian defeated USA's Lauren Davis (85) with a score of 6:1, 6:2.
Azarenka's next opponent will be fifth-ranked Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark. Their head-to-head score is 6:4 in favor of the Belarusian.
FC BATE snatch narrow win versus Partizan in Champions League playoff
FC BATE Borisov defeated on August 18 Serbian Partizan at Borisov Arena in the first leg of the decisive round of the Champions League qualification. Mikhail Gordeichuk scored the only goal 75 minutes into the game with a neat header from Igor Stasevich's corner.
Partizan were reduced to ten men after Marko Jevtović received his second yellow card in the 45th minute of the first half and were unable to pose significant threat to BATE in the second half.

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka failed to beat Italian Sara Errani and progress to the quarterfinals of the WTA tennis tournament in Toronto, Canada (the prize fund $2.5 million).
Azarenka (21) lost to Errani (17) in straight sets 5:7, 3:6. The meeting lasted 1 hour 48 minutes. Before that Victoria Azarenka beat Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (15) 6:1, 6:4 and the world's number 4 Czech Petra Kvitova 6:2, 6:3.
Next week, Victoria will take part in a tournament in US Cincinnati.
Belarus' Raubichi preparing for Biathlon Race of Legends
The sports complex Raubichi is preparing for the festival "Race of legends. Stars of the world biathlon for peace." This event takes place exactly in one month. International professional tennis tournament Amkodor Cup 2015 underway in Minsk
Amkodor Cup is tennis for everybody. That is the motto of the Minsk international professional tennis tournament. The high level of competition, as well as a decent prize fund allowed inviting participants from all over the world.
Taking part in the Amkodor Cup is very broad: Israel, Uzbekistan, Lithuania, France, Germany and even athletes from China.
Six Belarusians are taking part too. Among them are leaders Egor Gerasimov and Dmitry Zhirmont, who are taking part in the Davis Cup.
Belarusians win 22 medals at U15&U17 European Weightlifting Championships
Belarusian youth weightlifters returned to Belarus on August 9 bringing 22 medals from Sweden’s Landskrona, which hosted the U15&U17 European Weightlifting Championships. Belarusians set there 13 records.
Only boys won gold, while girls’ highest place was second. One of the best weightlifters in Team Belarus was Konstantin Kurovsky.

Minsk to host Polo Marathon on city day September 13
People running on the central streets of Minsk no more surprise anyone. Belarusians more and more get accustomed to a healthy lifestyle. On August 6, the center of the capital for a few hours turned into a running track.
On Thursday, anyone could try the unique route of Minsk Polo Marathon. The distance was more than 6 kilometers and passed through the main streets of Minsk.
Minsk Half Marathon is a young event. For the first time, the competition was held on City Day in 2013.

FC BATE Borisov will take on Serbia's Partizan in the Champions League qualification playoff. BATE were the seeded side and thus may be considered favorites in the pair.

Ruslan Salei memorial ice hockey touriament kicks off in Minsk
Today in Minsk, there will start the annual Ice Hockey Cup of Belarus, which was renamed in 2013 Ruslan Salei Cup.
On September 7, 2011 the legendary ice hockey player Ruslan Salei of Belarus, was killed along with the team "Lokomotiv" in a plane crash. The plane was taking off from the Yaroslavl airport. Due to numerous requests of fans, now this annual event is a tribute to the ice hockey player.
FC Dinamo Minsk battle past Zurich into Europa League playoff
After the away victory over Zurich 1:0 FC Dinamo Minsk snatched a home draw 1:1 and progressed to the Europa League qualification playoff, which is the last round before the group stage.
The Minsk club conceded in the fourth minute of the match when a fast attack resulted in a goal by Amin Chermiti. After that Dinamo took initiative in their hands and began to gradually increase pressure on Zurich defense. Young biathletes from Japan arrive for training camp in Belarus for the first time

Belarus' BATE progress to Champions League qualification playoff
Nemanja Nikolic, who joined FC BATE Borisov this year from FC Dinamo Minsk, scored the only goal of the Champions Leauge third qualifying round second leg tie against Hungary's Videoton in the 82nd minute. He was fed from the right corner of the penalty area by Maksim Zhavnerchik, one of the best on the pitch on August 5 night.

The Belarusian athlete Yana Nesterova has scooped bronze of the FINA World Championships in Kazan.
In the high-diving (20-meter tower), the Belarusian, after three attempts, gained 233.10 points.
Two US athletes were stronger: Rachel Simpson became the world champion (258.70), while Cecile Carlton won silver.

Dinamo Minsk won 1-0 away versus Swiss Zurich in the first match of the third qualifying round of the Europa League.
The first half was an equal fight, and in the second, Dinamo looked confident and in the 65th minute the Minsk side were awarded a penalty and top scorer Fatos Beqiraj opened the scoring.
After the goal, Dinamo continued to attack and created several chances but the score did not change.

Germany stops Belarus in 2015 Junior Handball World Championship quarterfinals in Brazil
The Belarus junior handball team (U21) have been knocked out of the World Championships in Brazil in the quarterfinals.
The Belarusians succumbed to a 37:43 defeat at the hands of Germany (17:19 at HT).
Both teams played poorly in defense, which is evidenced by the 80 goals. The top three scorers in the Belarusian squad were Artem Korolyok (9 goals), Nikita Vaylupov (6) and Gleb Garbuz (5).

Wakeboarding in Belarus
Wakeboarding has come to Belarus. This extreme sport is a combination of water skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing. There are two disciplines: boat wakeboarding and cable wakeboarding.
Belarus has even held the national championship in this sport. Wake means "wave behind the boat" and those who catch this wave are called "lazy surfers."

CIS long-term mission to start monitoring Belarus presidential elections by August 12

Belarusian Alexei Alexandrov wins international chess tournament Minsk Open
The international chess tournament Minsk Open ended in Minsk. The tournament's main prize was twenty million rubles. The event brought together over a hundred participants.

Nelli Kim gymnastics school to open in Minsk in December 2015
In December 2015 in Minsk, there may open a gymnastics school named after Nellie Kim. Five-time Olympic champion unexpectedly received such a proposal directly upon arrival in Belarus. At the airport, the legend was met by Chairwoman of the Presidium of the Belarusian Association of Gymnastics Elena Skripel and journalists.
The forge of new stars will be based on the athletic arena in 111 Kalinovskogo Street. The gym will be equipped with the latest technology.
Belarus win in opening game of 2015 Men's Junior World Handball Championship
The 2015 Men's Junior World Handball Championship is now underway in Brazil. Belarus played their first match against the Netherlands.
The final score 37:25 in favor of Belarus fully reflects the balance of power on the court.
In Group C, Belarus will also play against Russia, Paraguay, Tunisia and Sweden. It it Swedes who Belarusians will take on in the second match.
Sweden won in their opener against Tunisia. The game against Sweden is due on July 22.
Belarus defeat Turkey in second round of Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II
Belarusian tennis players defeated the visiting Turkish team and reached the third round of Group II Euro-African zone of the Davis Cup.
To determine the winner, the sides had to play all five matches.
On the first day, on July 17, the rivals exchanged victories.
On the second day, on July 18, there was held a doubles match. Belarusian Max Mirnyi (38th in the doubles ranking) and Sergei Betov (74) were much stronger than Baris Erguden (679) and Anil Yuksel (668), 6:2, 6:1, 6:4.

After today’s draw in Nyon, FC BATE Borisov and other Belarusian clubs learned their possible rivals in the next rounds of the Champions League and Europa League.
BATE may face the winner of the Videoton v New Saints tie. The Hungarian side were stronger in the first away game 1-0.
The Champions League 3rd round games will take place on 28/29 July and 4/5 August. BATE won 2-1 against Ireland’s Dundalk at home at Borisov Arena.
Famous Belarusian athlete receives 4-year ban for doping
Famous Belarusian athlete, participant of the Olympics 2012 and World Championship 2013, winner of 4th place at indoor Euro 2013, the champion of Belarus in the 800 meters event (1:44.43) Anis Ananenko is suspended for 4 years for the use of gene doping (international classification GW 1516), according to a disciplinary decision NADA Anti-Doping Commission as of July 14.
According to the official site of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), the count of punishment starts from 16 June 2015 and will end June 15, 2019.
Domracheva may miss next season through illness
Currently, the Olympic champion biathlete Darya Domracheva of Belarus is not training.
Earlier Domracheva said that she was diagnosed with a viral disease - mononucleosis.
According to the Belarus 1 TV channel, recovery may take up to three months. There is a possibility that Domracheva may miss the upcoming season.

Belarusian clubs July 16 started in the second qualifying round of the Europa League. Salihorsk's Shakhter lost the home game against Wolfsberger AC 0-1.
Shakhter managed to get together and organize a good attack only on 15 minutes but Kovalev's powerful strike went wide. Both teams were cautious, knowing the price of mistakes. By the middle of the first half the game equalized but the home team lacked attacking moves.
FC Dinamo Minsk pull off 1-1 draw in Europa League qualifier vs Cherno More
Belarusian clubs July 16 started in the second qualifying round of the Europa League. Dinamo Minsk were more convincing in the away game against Varna's Cherno More, which ended 1-1.
Dinamo Minsk did not have the best of matches in Bulgaria's Varna but managed to achieve an acceptable outcome. The hosts attacked for the most of the match but scored only once. After 11 minutes, Mathias Coureur dealt with Politevich and Edigaryan in the penalty area and beat Gutor.
Max Mirnyi to play for Belarus against Turkey in Davis Cup
A Davis Cup draw was held in Istanbul to decide on the order of matches between Belarus and Turkey in Group II of the Euro-African zone.
On the first day of the competition on July 17, there will be held two singles matches. Egor Gerasimov (world No 327) plays with Marcel Ilhan (78) followed by the Dmitry Zhirmont (241) v Cem İlkel (438) match.
Dinamo Minsk to face Cherno More in Europa League 2nd round qualifier
On July 15 in the morning, the delegation of FC Dinamo Minsk flew to Bulgaria for the season's first Europa League match. The team will face Cherno More from Varna in the first leg of the second qualifying round.

Azarenka back into WTA top 20
Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka at the end of Wimbledon moved up 5 notches in the updated WTA ranking and entered the top twenty.
At Wimbledon, Victoria Azarenka reached the quarterfinals, where in three sets lost to the future winner of the tournament, top tennis player of the world American Serena Williams.
As a result, Azarenka has risen from 24th to 19th place.
Belarus holds last home friendly before 2015 Men's Junior World Handball Championship

Belarusian midfielder Anton Putsila moves to Turkey's Gaziantepspor
The Turkish football club Gaziantepspor on July 14 announced the signing of a two-year contract with 28-year-old Belarusian midfielder Anton Putsila.
The player was earlier contracted to Torpedo Moscow where he scored four goals and became the team's top scorer. The capital's club took penultimate place and dropped out of the Premier League of the Russian Championship.

Minsk bids for hosting 2019 and 2020 European Athletics Championships
Minsk has submitted bids for the hosting of the 2019 and 2020 European Athletics Championships. While it is easier with the indoor championship (since Minsk Arena can easily host it) nothing is guaranteed in the case of the summer tournament.
The main difficulty is that Dinamo Stadium has been undergoing renovations for several years now. But it is the very arena that is to host the athletics competitions for which Minsk has submitted a bid.

The ice hockey club Dinamo Minsk have begun preparations for the new KHL season. The players and coaches have recently returned from vacation and gathered in the Belarus capital.

Belarus remain in Division III of U18 Field Hockey European Championship
The U18 Field Hockey European Championship (division III) completed in Minsk. From an organizational point of view, the tournament was flawless, but the result cannot please fans. The Belarusian team failed to win it and get a promotion to the higher division.
They lost to Ukraine in the final, only one step from being promoted.

Belarusian swimmer Evgeny Tsurkin clinches gold at summer Unversiade 2015
Belarusian swimmer Evgeny Tsurkin added to his collection of awards another gold. This time the medal came at the Summer Universiade 2015, which continues in Gwangju, South Korea.
The athlete stormed to gold in the men's 50m freestyle. Tsurkin not only finished first, but also set a new record of Belarus in 22.22 seconds.
Belarus get second victory at U18 Field Hockey European Championship Division III
Belarus met Bulgaria in the second game of the U18 Field Hockey European Championships in Division III. The games are being held in Minsk.
The first half of the Belarus v Bulgaria game was rich in goals, with each side scoring twice.
The same happened in the second period and it seemed that the game would be nothing else but a draw. However, inside a couple of minutes, at the end of the tie, Belarus netted two more goals to win 6-4.
In the first game Belarus downed Lithuania 4-2.
Shakhter Soligorsk into Europa League 2nd qualifying round
FC Shakhter Soligorsk lived up to expectations of its fans and confidently overcame the barrier of the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.
In the return home match against Glenavon from Northern Ireland, The Miners could concede no more than one goal after a 2-1 win away. And the Soligorsk team accomplished this mission.

Belarus pull off victory in opening match at U18 Field Hockey European Championships
Minsk is hosting the Field Hockey European Championship (U18) in Division III. On the first day of the tournament the national team of Belarus won against Lithuania 4:2.
Opponents surprised Belarusians in the first half scoring twice. After the break, the hosts were able to take the initiative. Ivan Ignatenko pulled one back after 42 minutes. After four minutes, Stanislav Levkin equalized 2:2. Nikolay Voronich added a third after a free-kick. Pavel Korsik set the final score two minutes before the final whistle 4:2.

Shakhter Soligorsk down Glenavon in Europa League 1st qualifying round first leg
Two Belarusian football clubs started their European football season. Zhodino's Torpedo-BelAZ and Shakhter Soligorsk held the opening matches of the 1st qualifying round of the Europa League. Both Belarusian representatives played their games away.
Igor Kriushenko's Torpedo Zhodino owned initiative and created some dangerous moments, but their accuracy was not enough.
Their opponents from Albania, FK Kukësi, in turn, were better in finishing and scored two goals from distance for a 2:0 scoreline by the end of 90 minutes.

Dinamo Minsk to open new KHL season August 25
HC Dinamo Minsk, Belarus, will begin the new season in the Kontinental Hockey League on August 25 with an away game against Spartak Moscow.

All three Belarusians make it into Wimbledon second round

Belarus' Victoria Azarenka into Wimbledon 2nd round

Belarusian students go to the 2015 Summer Universiade
Belarusian students have departed for the Summer Universiade. A solemn farewell ceremony for our sports delegation will be held June 29 at the Belarusian State University.
The delegation is composed of representatives of 12 higher educational institutions of the country.
The 28th World Summer Universiade will be held from 4 to 14 July in South Korea.
Belarus fall to Spain, miss out on Eurobasket 2015 bronze
Belarusian basketball players lost the match for the bronze medals of Eurobasket 2015 to Spain and took 4th place at the championships in Budapest.
This is the second time the Belarusian has taken 4th place at Eurobasket. Last time Belarusians competed for bronze in Riga in 2009 and also lost against Spain in the third-place tie.
The national team of Belarus took part in the European championship for the fifth time. At the European Championship in Italy in 2007 Anatoly Buyalsky's team took bronze. In Latvia in 2009 they finished fourth.

Another "medal-packed" Baku plane landed at National airport Minsk. A number of Belarusian athletes returned from the European Games with a bunch of medals.

Belarus into Women's EuroBasket 2015 semis
The women's basketball team of Belarus in their trademark dramatic style won a ticket to the semifinals of the European Championship.
Coach Anatoly Buyalsky's charges were 39:20 ahead in the middle of the second quarter.
But Lithuanians replied with some good attacks, which eventually led to them trailing by only five points.
Some 1.5 seconds before the end of the match Ekaterina Snytina made a bad mistake and the ball went out.
Fortunately, Lithuanians were not able to score and the scoreboard read 68:66 in favor of Belarus.
National 3x3 Basketball League opens in Minsk
The National 3x3 Basketball League opened in the Belarus capital Minsk on June 21. The league games will be held at the skating rink close to the Palace of Sport, which is now completely renovated for streetball purposes.
The National Basketball League "3x3 Palova" (English: 3x3 Half) creates an opportunity for players, both professionals and amateurs, to express themselves.The league has 5 categories: elite, general, U-16, U-18 and women.
