Belarus' sporting events next week (14-20 March) BGK Meshkov hold on Saturday the first match of the 1/8 finals of the EHF Champions League. Opponents are Poland's strongest squad Vive-Kielce. In the EHF CL group stage the Polish club took second place behind Barcelona. The first leg takes place in Brest at 19:00 Belarus time.

Head of European Hockey Federation praises sport development in Belarus Head of the European Hockey Federation appreciates the development of this sport in Belarus. Marijke Fleuren said this meeting with chairman of the Belarusian federation Valery Ivanov and Minister of Sport Alexander Shamko. FC BATE lift Belarus Super Cup for sixth time In the Super Cup of Belarus, FC BATE Borisov beat Soligorsk Shakhtyor 2:1 and lifted the trophy for the sixth time. Interestingly, these same teams battled for the first trophy of the season in 2015. Then, the winner was decided in a penalty shootout and the reliable game of Sergei Chernik brought the Borisov club the trophy. BATE struck first on 23 minutes but the ref disallowed the goal saying Rodionov was offside.

Dorin Habert covered the entire race without a miss (0+0+0+0) and was ahead of German Laura Dahlmeier (0+0+1+0) and Finn Kaisa Makarainen (0+0+1+0). Belarusian Nadezhda Skardino (0+0+0+0) had her best race of the World Championship. Accurate shooting allowed the leader of the Belarusian team to take high 10th place. This is the best personal result of the Belarusian team at this championship.

He was just three votes ahead of his main rival - the president of the Asian Football Confederation, Sheikh Salman.  Nevertheless, in the second round, the ex-Secretary General of UEFA was supported by the absolute majority of 115 voters against Sheikh Salman's 88.

Maria Mamashuk scoops Wrestling Europeans gold Maria Mamashuk has won a gold medal at the European Wrestling Championships in Riga. In the women's freestyle section, in the weight category of up to 69 kg, Maria defeated Israeli Ilana Kratysh. The gold medal of the European Championship is not the first one for the representative of the Gomel wrestling school.  In 2015, the Belarusian won the tournament in the youth category of up to 63 kg and in 2014 she took a silver medal of the European championship in the senior competition.

Melitina Stanyuta wins two medals at Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Finland At the World Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics that was held in Finland, Belarusian athlete Melitina Stanyuta won two medals. She took bronze for the exercise with clubs and with ribbon. For all exercises combined, the gymnast got 4th place. Unfortunately, Ekaterina Galkina wasn’t able to stand on the podium, and for all exercises performed, she got to 7th place.

Why Dinamo Minsk out of KHL playoffs again This KHL regular season was, perhaps, the most scandalous in the history of the Belarusian ice hockey club Dinamo Minsk. In the summer of 2015, the club lost their sports managers: in July, Maxim Subbotkin, the director general of the team, was detained. A month later the general manager Vladzimir Berezhkov was arrested too. Sports managers are accused of theft of funds and abuse of power. On this background the team started poorly, losing 3 times in a row.

Alexander Lukashenko son's team win Minsk ice hockey competition The team Grifony of the Tsentralnyi district of Minsk has won the city stage of the national competition Golden Puck. It features the youngest son of the Belarus President, Nikolai Lukashenko.  During a month, Minsk sportsmen fought for entering the national stage. 18 teams - two from each of the nine districts of Minsk - entered the final of the tournament. Griffony met in the final with the team Berkuty. During the three periods the two teams scored 9 goals. As a result Griffony won 8-1.

Meshkov Brest book Final 4 place in SEHA League HC Meshkov Brest (BGK) beat Serbian Spartak from Subotica in a routine away game and guaranteed a place in the Final 4 of the SEHA League. In the first half of the match the Brest club faced difficulties. For almost 30 minutes BGK was on a par with the team that was 9th in the tournament table. Just before the whistle for a break the Brest side could secure a small gap 18:16.

Belarus President takes part in opening of Uruchye sports palace The President of Belarus demands the return on funds invested in sport. Alexander Lukashenko said this on February 18 during the opening ceremony of the renovated sports complex Uruchcha. The modern sports palace has appeared on the basis of a small athletic arena. The site has become more universal. Now it can host handball, volleyball, basketball, mini-football, and even tennis training. HC Meshkov Brest rise to 3rd place in SEHA League HC Meshkov Brest (BGK) defeated away Bosnian Borac from Banja Luka in the SEHA League. The Brest handball players started the game in a not very confident manner. Perhaps, the Brest team were affected by the travel from Croatia to Bosnia and Herzegovina.  In the first ten minutes, it was Borac who held possession. Initially, the BGK goalkeeper Ivan Pesic had no luck in the game by not being able to repel a single ball. Then he was replaced by Vitaly Cherepenko. At that time, field players came to their senses too.

Belarus to face Canada in Fed Cup Today in Quebec, there was held a draw for the first-round match of World Group II of the Fed Cup between Belarus and Canada. This will be their first meeting at such a level. Belarusian speed skaters preparing for 2016 Winter Youth Olympics The Belarusian team is preparing to leave for the Youth Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway. Eight boys and the same number of girls will take part in the competition in seven sports. For the first time, Belarusians took part in the Youth Winter Olympics in Lillehammer in 1994 and won two medals. Back then silver went to biathlete Svetlana Paramygina and skater Igor Zhelezovsky. Skaters train 5-6 hours a day. They have one day off per week. In summer, they go to their skating rink by bicycles in order to warm up before training on ice.

Belarus go down to Poland at Men's European Handball Championships The handball team of Belarus have lost to Poland in the main round of the Men's European Handball Championship. In a duel with the hosts of the continental championship, coach Yuri Shevtsov's charges in Krakow fought on equal terms against Poland in the first half but by the break the advantage of the Poles rose to six goals, 19:13. In the second half, Belarusians played without their captain Sergei Rutenko, who was injured at the beginning of the match. Eventually, Belarus lost to Poland 27:32.

On January 24, in the fight for the bronze medals, Team Belarus defeated Germany 6:5. Belarus wins XII Christmas hockey tournament 2016 The team of the Belarus President became the winner of the 2016 Christmas International Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament. In the final, Belarusians in a bitter struggle defeated Finland 2:1 (0:1, 1:0, 1:0). Belarus conceded in the first period but then thanks to goals by Andrei Glebov, in the 36th minute, and Daniel Corso (44th minute) the hosts restored the lead and eventually celebrated a victory. This is the 9th time the team of the President of Belarus has won the Christmas tournament. Previously, in the bronze medal game Slovakia beat Sweden 17:3.
