Belarus go down to Switzerland in Arosa Challenge final The Belarusian national ice hockey team under the new head coach Dave Lewis lost to Switzerland in the final of the annual tournament Arosa Challenge. Elena Levchenko wins Belarus' Basketball Player of the Year accolade Artem Parakhovsky and Elena Levchenko became the best basketball players of Belarus in 2014. These are the results of the traditional poll of sports journalists and experts conducted by the influential Belarusian sports newspaper Pressball. Belarus' Shkanova wins slalom race in Switzerland Belarusian skier Maria Shkanova won the slalom at the University Race in St. Moritz, Switzerland, under the auspices of the International Ski Federation (FIS). In addition, she won a silver medal in another discipline - giant slalom. Shkanova won the slalom race with a total time of 1:44.19 after two attempts. Runner-up, Swiss skier Anna Schneider, was 2.62 seconds behind Shkanova. By the standards of slalom, this is a serious advantage. Third-placed Croatian Iva Misak was 3.65 seconds behind.

Belarus U20 return to IIHF World Junior Championship top division The Belarus U20 national ice hockey team have returned to Minsk after winning IIHF World Junior Championship Division I Group A. 
Domracheva second to none in women's pursuit at World Cup Another big win Belarus and new success of Darya Domracheva. On December 20, Domracheva won the women's 10K pursuit at the World Cup in Slovenia's Pokljuka. Darya came to the finish line 10 seconds ahead of her main rival - Kaisa Mäkäräinen of Finland. Domracheva missed only once during the race. Belarus' Nadezhda Skardino, who took 6th place in the end, showed a clean shooting.  President Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Domracheva on such a brilliant victory.

Domracheva voted Sportswoman of the Year in Belarus The newspaper Sportivnaya Panorama has summed up the traditional voting to determine the winners of the sports year in Belarus. The poll among sports journalists from print and electronic media has been held for the 56th time. Some 106 respondents voted for the best athletes of the year, the best coach and the two teams (in playing and non-playing sports).  Three-time Sochi Olympic champion Darya Domracheva became the best. She was 181 points ahead of the nearest competitor.
VC Stroitel Minsk into CEV Challenge Cup last 16 The Belarusian volleyball club Stroitel Minsk entered the last 16 of the European Challenge Cup. On December 17, the champions of Belarus confidently beat visitors from Finland's Tiikerit Kokkola 3:1 (20:25, 25:20, 25:14, 25:18) in the second leg of last 32 at Chizhovka Arena. The match lasted 1 hour and 38 minutes.   In the first leg in Finland, Alexander Singayevsky's Stroitel went down 3:2 but the win in the return leg allowed the Belarusian club to proceed to the last 16 round.
Belarus returns to top 100 of FIFA ranking Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and the Netherlands kept place in the top 5 of the FIFA ranking. Belarus U20 back into top division of IIHF World Junior Championship Belarus U20 have returned to the elite division of the IIHF World Junior Championship. The guys confidently won four games in a row without leaving opponents a chance. Thus, regardless of the result of the Austria game on December 20, Belarusians will take first place in Division I Group A.

Young talents to lift Belarus' ice hockey to new heights Honored coach of the Republic of Belarus Valery Voronin has answered the questions of the presenter of the program "Hot Ice" on CTV. On December 15, Belarus announced the team finally got a new head coach. Canadian manager Dave Lewis will be the team's manager until 2018. The first part of the contract ends on 31 May 2015. The agreement is designed to 2018. The Federation has put global tasks.

Tsmokі Mіnsk beat BC Yenisey in last round of EuroChallenge The men's basketball club team Tsmokі Mіnsk finished their EuroChallenge season.  In the final match of the group stage, the Minsk club beat the leader of the section Yenisey at home.  This match did not decide anything, which did not prevent the opponents from showing spectacular basketball. The winner was decided at the end of the game.  The Dragons celebrated a 76:71 victory but remained bottom of the group. 
HC Meshkov Brest extends unbeaten run in SEHA League The handball club Meshkov Brest have extended their winning streak in the SEHA League to four matches.  The Belarusian champion got another victory in Zagreb, against the Croatian club PPD Zagreb 24:21, on December 16. Janko Bozovic became top scorer for Brest with 26 goals. With this victory, the BGK moved to 4th place in the SEHA League standings. HC Meshkov Brest have 24 points after 10 games and are equal on points with Zagreb and 9 points behind table toppers MKB-MVM Veszprem from Hungary.

Alexei Kalyuzhny: Dinamo Minsk are relishing six victories in a row! Sensational but true. HC Dinamo Minsk extended their unbeaten run in the Kontinental Hockey League to six matches. The Bison first ousted Salavat Yulaev 4:0. Alexander Materukhin, striker HC Dinamo Minsk:We tried not to do anything unusual. We wanted to make fewer mistakes in defense, and be more successful in power plays. It turned out that we were much better prepared. Today we were stronger.
Dave Lewis becomes head coach of Belarus national ice hockey team The Belarus national ice hockey team have got a new head coach on December 15. Canadian manager Dave Lewis will be the team's head coach until 2018. The first part of the contract ends on 31 May 2015. Igor Rachkovsky, chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation:Dave is ready to work more and has no plans to sign contracts with other clubs. He said about this frankly yesterday during our talks. He just wants to show what he is capable of as a professional so that later we decide on further cooperation.

Belarus' Player of the Year 2014 announced Sergei Krivets has been voted the best player of Belarus of 2014. The midfielder, who is now playing for France's Metz, earlier spent football years in BATE (Belarus) and played in Poland and China. The traditional ceremony Golden Ball was held in Minsk to summarize the outcome of the football year in Belarus.  However, Sergei has been unable to attend the ceremony since France's Ligue 1 is currently underway.
Belarusian biathletes scoop relay silver in Hochfilzen Belarusian biathletes took silver at the World Cup In Hochfilzen on December 13. Team Belarus (Nadezhda Skardino, Anastasia Duborezova, Nadezhda Pisareva and Darya Domracheva) came in third in the women's 4x6km relay. Germany and the Czech Republic were first and third. It is noteworthy that Belarusians took part in a relay for the first time since the triumphal Sochi Olympic Games.

FC Dinamo Minsk fans banned from matches in Italy for 5 years 47 fans of Dinamo Minsk have been banned from visiting matches in Italy for a period of 5 years. As practice shows, it means a ban on entry to the Schengen area. "According to our information, 47 people were detained for identification and 14 people were arrested. All fans are young people aged 22 - 27," Belarus Foreign Ministry spokesman Dmitry Mironchik said. The ministry also said that 47 people, who were detained, have received a 5-year ban on visiting football matches in Italy.

Belarusian Swimming Federation: Alexandra Gerasimenya is our unique swimmer Yevgeny Tsurkin twice made it to the finals of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), in the 50m and 100m butterfly events. Both times he finished in sixth place.  Are these results good or bad? Sergei Matveyenko: Tsurkin is improving season after season setting new Belarus' national records. This is very good. Especially because he is young and thus has great prospects.
SEHA League. RK Borac 31:36 Meshkov Brest The Belarusian handball club Meshkov Brest (BGK) beat RK Borac in Banja Luka in the SEHA-League on December 10.  Outsiders Borac put up a good performance against the visitors but after the starting 15 minutes the Brest side were three points ahead (9:6) and controlled the match. It should be noted that BGK coach Zeljko Babic rested a couple of his leaders. 
BATE finish European campaign with 0-2 loss to Athletic On December 10, Alexander Yermakovich's BATE finished their European football campaign after a Champions League defeat at Spain's Athletic 0-2. Home victory over the Basques allowed BATE to progress to the Europa League playoff but the Borisov club failed to win. In the first half, Athletic dominated in all areas, while BATE managed to make only one attempt on goal. However, at the beginning of the second half, the Spanish side broke the deadlock.

Rules concerning international footballers change in Belarus Members of the executive committee of the Association "Belarusian Football Federation" (ABFF) voted for a proposal to reduce the number of foreign footballers who can play on the pitch at the same time. Members of the executive committee voted to reduce from five to four the number of international players that can simultaneously play for a team in the matches of the Belarusian Premier League.  The concept "international player" was changed, too.
Belarusian freestyle skiers open new season with two medals Belarusian freestyle skiers opened a new season with the FIS Freestyle Ski Europa Cup, which was held in Ruka (Finland) last week. In the women's competition, Belarus won two bronze medals. Aliaksandra Ramanouskaya earned a total of 149.33 points and took third place. Her teammates Anna Guskova earned 124.12 points (7th) and Olga Kapustina 114.34 (11th).  In the second event, Anna Guskova, participant 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, won bronze.

Belarusian wins California International Marathon in Sacramento Belarusian runner Olga Mazurenok won the 32nd California International Marathon that took place in Sacramento. The Belarusian clocked 2:27.33 to set her new personal record. Olga outpaced Jane Kibii of Kenya, who was second, almost five minutes behind the winner. Kristen Zaitz of the United States finished in third, with 2:32.48.  In summer 2012 Olga Mazurenok won a victory at the 23rd Siberian International Marathon in Omsk. Back then, she clocked 2:44.47.

It’s the Belarusian team’s second draw in a row. The end of match was more successful for the hosts (27:26). But 3 seconds before the final siren, Serbian Nikola Manojlovic saved HC Meshkov from defeat (27:27).

Fall trashes Domracheva's podium hopes in Ostersund sprint Norwegian Tiril Eckhoff missed once (0+1) and won the women's sprint at the Biathlon World Cup in Sweden's Ostersund. Second place went to Czech Veronika Vítková (clean shooting), while third was Kaisa Mäkäräinen (1+1). Belarusian Darya Domracheva started the race with confidence but fell during the second lap losing about 15 seconds.
Martin Fourcade wins sprint in Ostersund, Liadov in 37th France's Martin Fourcade after failing in the individual race, bounced back in the sprint at the first stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Ostersund, Sweden.  Not allowing a single miss, the three-time winner of the Big Crystal Globe beat the closest rival by almost half a minute. Yuri Liadov was the best in the Belarusian men's team, in 37th place. 1st World Cup. Ostersund (Sweden) Sprint. 10K with two firing ranges
Slovenia stop Belarus in World Handball Championship 2015 qualification The women's national handball team of Belarus have not got into the playoffs of the World Handball Championship 2015 qualification. Today in Zurich, Belarus lost to Slovenia 33:35 (18:17) in the last group match of the qualifying campaign. In the first half, the Belarusian handball team played a little bit better than their rivals. However, after the break, Slovenia upped pace and possessed the ball more winning the game and getting out of the qualifying group.
Dinamo Minsk celebrate third victory in row in KHL Dinamo Minsk have completed their two-match away series with a victory over Podolsk Vityaz 5:3 (3:2, 1:1, 1:0). The first period was the most productive. The sides scored five goals, with the Minskers being twice forced to come from behind. Matt Ellison, Ryan Vesce and Jonathan Cheechoo scored for The Bison. In the middle of the second period, the hosts leveled the score, but Ellison immediately scored a fourth for the Minsk side.

Natallia Tsylinskaya: Family life Natallia Tsylinskaya is an international cyclist, specializing in track sprinting. She is an eight-time World Champion, and a 2004 Olympic bronze medalist. Natalia gave up her career more than four years ago without regrets to become a mother of a large family. As for child care, it’s her relatives and older daughter Maria who help her taking care of the younger kids Anya and Katya, aged three and one respectively. Natalia got used to hard work and made up her mind not to go on maternity leave. Now she is sports director of the Belarusian Federation of Cycling Sport.
