Motoball in Belarus: Football on motorcycles with giant ball It is very important for athletes competing in this sport to have a spark – one won’t be able to start a motorbike without it. Motorcycle football used to be very popular in the USSR, but now its place is in the outskirts of towns that gave the game an unofficial name – the “sport of small towns”. The season has ended but the roar of motorcycles’ engines never stops at Minsk stadium Zaria. No, it is not a ball for giant people, it is a part of real equipment of the sport, and it is being used as in ordinary football.

Volleyball: Fantastic performance of Stroitel Minsk at European Challenge Cup It is a very common thing for Belarusian athletes – to create problems and then handle them with dignity. In the first match of the CEV Challenge Cup quarterfinal VC Stroitel Minsk lost to Turkey’s Maliye Milli Piyango in the first leg – 0:3. It meant that in the return match at home, they could lose only one set, and they used this “right” - 24:26. The spirits of both the supporters and the team were dampened, but then Stroitel focused on the match and, what is the most important, believed in themselves.

Belarusian Alexandra Romanovskaya 3rd at European Cup Freestyle The European Cup Freestyle was successful for the Belarusian athlete Alexandra Romanovskaya.  With a score of 151.37 points, she won a bronze medal, losing to little more than one point to the Russian athlete Lyubov Nikitina who was 1st. Another Belarusian athlete, Vera Leshkevich, got into the final, too, but she could not make it to the podium. The athlete was fifth.

Belarusians bag 5 medals at European Cup Winter Throwing in Portugal The European Cup Winter Throwing finished in Portugal's Leiria. On the final day of the tournament, Belarusian athletes added two awards to the three medals won on the first day of competition. Elena Soboleva won first place in the women's U23 setting a personal record. Alexander Kozlovsky scooped bronze in the U23 javelin. All in all, Belarus won five medals at the European Cup Winter Throwing.    In the women’s U23 shot, Viktoryia Kolb was third. Silver went to Yury Vasilchanka in the men’s U23 hammer.
Andrei Mezin joins Belarus national hockey team coaching staff Andrei Mezin will become one of members of the coaching staff of the Belarusian national ice hockey team. It is assumed that the goalkeeper, who has recently finished his playing career, will act as a junior goalkeeping coach.  Swedish specialist Michael Lehner is going to be the senior goalkeeping coach. Mezin will also be responsible for the training of younger goaltenders.
Meshkov Brest crush Macedonia's Metalurg 26:17 in SEHA League The Brest handball club named  after Meshkov concluded the regular SEHA season.  In the final match of the 18th tour, in Skopje, the champions of Belarus defeated Macedonian defeated Metalurg 26:17. The result of this game was not of fundamental importance for BGK. They long ago secured their place in the top six, which will let them compete for awards.  The defeat of the hosts deprived them of chances for the final stage of the International League.

BATE lift Belarusian Super Cup again The first trophy of the football season was won by FC BATE Borisov. The Belarusian Super Cup was contested in Belarus' town of Pinsk. Ninety minutes was not enough for BATE and Shakhtyor to score - 0-0.  In the penalty shootout, BATE prevailed, largely thanks to the three saves of their goalie Sergei Chernik. Last year, BATE also won the Super Cup ousting FC Minsk 1-0 thanks to Mladenovic's 19th-minute shot.

Belarus 7th in relay at Biathlon World Championships 2015 Belarusian biathlon fans on March 13 evening once again sat in front of TV screens hoping to finally see the representatives of Belarus on the podium of the World Championship in Kontiolahti. The women's relay race, however, did not bring any medals again. Prior to the race, Belarus were third in the women’s relay standings and were among favorites to win medals in the event. Nadezhda Skardino began the race fairly well and despite being 10th after the first stage, the gap was only 15 seconds.

10-year-old blind Daniil Savenya sings original anthems of countries before matches at Minsk Arena 10-year-old Daniel Savenya from the town of Slutsk became the favorite of Dinamo Minsk hockey fans this season.  The blind pupil of the Molodechno boarding school performs the national anthems in the original language in front of the crowd at Minsk Arena. 15,000 fans stand and applaud. Videos where Daniil performs anthems a cappella receive up to 40,000 views on the Internet.

Belarusian shooters win two medals at 10m European Championship Belarusian shooters claimed two bronze medals at the 10m European Championship 2015 in Arnhem, the Netherlands. One of the leaders of the Belarus national team, Ilya Chergeiko, was third in the men's 10m rifle. Belarus also won a medal in the team event. The team included Yuri Shcherbatsevich, Vitaly Bubnovich and the same Ilya Chergeiko. Belarus were behind Italy and Russia. In the medal standings, Belarus occupied 12th place with two bronze medals. Russia won in the medal standings after bagging eight awards.

Biathlon World Championship 2015: Domracheva seventh in pursuit The Biathlon World Championship is underway in Finland's Kontiolahti. On Sunday, March 8, two pursuit races took place but they did not bring any medals to Belarusians. For now, Belarus has not won any medals. Failing the sprint, Darya Domracheva started only 25th yesterday but during the race she cut the deficit and finished in 7th place. France's Marie Dorin Habert again won the race as on March 7. Belarusians, Anastasia Duborezova and Nadezhda Pisareva, unfortunately, did not even make it to the top thirty.

Belarus claims two silver medals at European Athletics Championships in Prague On March 7, Belarus won two silver medals at the European Athletics Championships that are underway in Prague. Earlier, Alina Talai won gold in the 60m hurdles with a national record. Yulia Leontyuk took second place in the women's shot put with a score of 18 meters 60 centimeters. Svetlana Kudelich went on the podium at the end of the 3,000m race, setting yet another national record in the tournament - 8 minutes 48.02 seconds. March 8 is the last day of the competition in Prague.

After two singles victories on March 6, Belarus were to win the doubles match. The task was not easy but doable. Sergey Betov and Alexander Buryi beat James Cluskey and David O'Hara in four sets: 7:6, 5:7, 6:3, 6:4. On March 8, two singles matches will be held, though they are just a formality.

Yuri Liadov has the most favorable starting position of all Belarusians in the men's event. Yesterday, in the sprint, leaders of the overall World Cup standings led by Belarusian Darya Domracheva stayed in the shadow. The only Brazilian international in Belarusian futsal holds master class for kids The new generation of Belarusian futsal received instructions from a world-class star. The only Brazilian international in the Belarusian Championship - Roninho - held a master class at the training session of the children's futsal club Capital-Uni. Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Raubichi: review The last Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Raubichi was at first in jeopardy: who would have thought that it will be difficult with snow in Minsk on the first day of March. But the organizers came out of a difficult situation with dignity. The oasis of winter, created on the slopes, still created the necessary atmosphere.

American athletes about new Belarusian freestyle center The Hockey World Championship finished long ago and all the sporting constructions built specifically for the competition have passed the test. It took a very long time to build the freestyle center in Surhanava Street in Minsk. The construction plan was accepted in 2008, the place for it was chosen and the process started in 2010. The goal was to build a center in a big way and quickly enough for the Belarusian national team to train there for the Sochi Olympics.

BGK's Janko Bozovic netted five times becoming a top scorer.  In the standings, the Belarusian club is 5th having the same number of points with Zagreb and Tatran Presov.

Yenisey defeat Tsmoki in VTB United League The Belarusian basketball club Tsmoki Minsk met with neighbors in the VTB United League standings, the basketball club Yenisey from Krasnoyarsk. Despite the enthusiastic support of the fans, Igor Grishchuk's charges lost. By half time, the teams were divided by 14 points, with Tsmoki losing and having slim chances to overturn the game. Yenisey played well in the defense and rarely made mistakes in the attack. By the end of the match Tsmoki managed to reduce the deficit to two points but this was not enough – 91:84 in favor of Yenisey.
Minister of Sport and Tourism says Belarusian officials adhere to more healthy lifestyle nowadays The Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon have completed. The next such competition will be held in Romania. In the coming days, from 4 to 15 March, Finland will host the senior world championship.

Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015: Behind the scenes The Belarusian team won two golds at the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 - a result which ensures that the competition will long remain in the memory of fans. Daria Blashko became the main hero for Belarus contributing to both awards. However, the championship will be also remembered thanks to numerous interesting facts. February became a full revival of the once capital of the Soviet biathlon, and now the Belarusian sports brand - Raubichi. Attendance beat all records.

Belarusian aerialist Denis Osipov claims bronze at Freestyle Ski World Cup in Raubichi Athletic Sunday at Raubichi. Today, on March 1, at home, at the final stage of the Freestyle Ski World Cup (ski acrobatics), Belarusian Denis Osipov won bronze. This is his first medal of the season. Competing in Raubichi are athletes from Belarus, China, USA, Canada, Russia, Australia, Switzerland, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. The nations were fighting for small crystal globe. The Belarusian team had a new line-up. The most successful among women was Anna Guskova. She came in sixth in the overall standings.

Belarus reveals squad for Biathlon World Championships 2015 in Finland The coaching staff of the Belarus national team has published a list of the biathletes who will represent our country at the upcoming World Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland. No surprises or sensations. The women's team, on whom we pin our medal hopes, includes Darya Domracheva, Nadezhda Skardino, Nadezhda Pisareva, Anastasia Duborezova and Irina Krivko. In the men's competition, Yuri Liadov, Vladimir Chepelin, Alexander Dorozhko, Dmitry Dyuzhev and Dmitry Abashev will defend Belarus' colors.
Naturalization of foreign players in Belarus: pros and cons A similar attempt to strengthen our national team was undertaken five years ago when the basketball player Dante Striggers from Texas was granted Belarusian citizenship. He became the first naturalized American in our country. However, he did not stand the competition among other Belarusian players, and eventually, dropped out. The presence of foreigners in the national teams has become somewhat habitual. On February 24, the final 13 matches were played, including the derby and the two capitals - Dinamo Moscow against Dinamo Minsk. In the away game against the third team of the Western Conference The Bison looked decent but did not use the opportunity to score the season's last points. Borisov Arena among top 30 best stadiums in the world The football complex Borisov Arena, which belongs to the Belarusian club BATE Borisov, has been named among the top 30 best stadiums in the world by an international Internet award.  Among its competitors are hundreds of sports grounds, including stadiums which hosted matches of FIFA World Cup in Brazil and South Africa. The competition jury included about one hundred thousand Internet users and professional architects. Among the criteria were unusual architectural designs of objects, their uniqueness and functionality.

Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 participants leave Belarus The participants of the championship leave Belarus after spending here more than a week. Some 16 sets of medals were contested in individual races, sprint, pursuit, and relay. The medal standings were topped by Russia, who won 12 awards.Belarusians with two gold medals are in fifth place. Taking part in the tournament in Raubichi were five hundred young athletes from nearly forty countries. Now the participants leave the hospitable Belarusian land. Teams of Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Finland and others have alerady departed.

Aerialists test training facility in Raubichi ahead of Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Belarus The Youth/Junior Biathlon World Championships have just finished in Raubichi. Aerialists came to the new training facility to test it.  In a couple of days, the final and decisive stage of the Freestyle Skiing World Cup (Aerials) will be held near Minsk. The original venue is not available for training because of rainy weather in Minsk. But this does not mean that future participants of the World Cup have nowhere to train.

They are form the Minsk rugby women team Grazhdanochka. They play as an amateur team, yet there is a high chance of becoming part of the first Belarusian national female rugby team. IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 in Raubichi ends The IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 ended in Raubichi. Russia are second to none in the medal count, while Belarus managed to move up to fifth place, with a total of two gold medals.   The main star of Belarus is of course Darya Blashko, maybe she will become a second Darya Domracheva. Belarusian juniors were not tasked with winning medals but they did. The triple of Anastasia Kunets, Tatiana Trifonova and Yevgeniya Yakovleva were ninth after the last race. France won the youth relay, while Russia and Germany rounded out the top three.

Belarus among top 5 nations at IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 The IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 says goodbye to fans. On February 24, Raubichi hosted the last two races.  Russia is the strongest nation of the tournament. Belarusian biathletes showed a good performance. They won two gold medals. The first gold was won by Daria Blashko in the sprint. The second one came after the relay race. Daria Blashko, Dinara Alimbekova and Anna Solo stepped on the top of the podium.
HC Dinamo Minsk score record high 100 points in KHL season HC Dinamo Minsk scored 100 points during the current KHL season, which is the team's record. But this season is full of surprises and records.  On February 22, Dinamo won against Dinamo Riga 1-0 and broke their club's season record. Belarusian table tennis player Vladimir Samsonov wins Qatar Open Championship Belarusian Vladimir Samsonov won the Qatar Table Tennis Open Championship, which is a competition of the World Tour series. In the singles final, Samsonov won against Germany's Dmitry Ovcharov. The score in sets is 11:9, 11:8, 15:13, 6:11 and 11:9. In the doubles, the Belarusian, together with Slovenian Bojan Tokič, was knocked out in the quarter-final.

IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015: Day 6 summary Good news came on 23 February from Raubichi where Belarusian youth women's biathlon team won World Championship gold. The trio of - Dinara Alimbekova, Anna Solo and Daria Blashko, finished the race in first place in brilliant style.  Belarus have won two gold medals at this championship. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko congratulated the girls on the victory.

It was a kind of  consolation for those who could not make it to the standard league, or those who are finishing their sports career. There are very few people who could name “3x3” professional basketball players. Dinamo Minsk overpower Jokerit 3:1 in KHL Dinamo Minsk, who have not been showing their best hockey in recent games, have met with a possible opponent in the first round of the playoffs Jokerit.  Given four consecutive defeats, Lubomir Pokovic's Dinamo needed only a victory, which they eventually achieved - 3:1. This time Dinamo were with Jonathan Cheechoo and skipper Alexei Kalyuzhny.   Jokerit scored first but 15,000-seat Minsk Arena did not lose heart and continued to support their favorite team. First gold for Belarus at IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 The IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 continues in Raubichi. On February 20, the women's youth sprint was held. Among the competitors were four representatives of Belarus. And it is our compatriot Daria Blashko who finished first. She stopped the clock after 16 minutes and 26.4 seconds. She shot clear. Julia Schweiger of Austria finished 5.5 seconds behind. Norwegian Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold was third. It is also worth noting that two representatives of Belarus were in the top six.

Belarus' Viktor Krivko 6th in U21 individual at IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 Raubichi hosted day 2 of the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 on February 19. In the morning, Ukrainian Yulia Zhuravok won the women's U21 individual.    The best Belarusian was only 21st. Viktor Krivko, the leader of the Belarus national U21 biathlon team, came to the finish line sixth. Not bad at all compared to the morning race. Maxim Vorobei became eighth. France's Aristide Begue won the men's event.  Russia's Alexander Dedyukhin came in second.

IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015: Belarus remains without medals on day 1  On February 18, Raubichi hosted the first day of the 2015 IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon. The winners of the U19 individual races were Russia's Kirill Streltsov and Anna Kryvonos from Ukraine. Currently, training sessions are underway at the stadium. The boy's U19 individual race has already taken place. Taking part in it were 89 athletes, including four biathletes from Belarus. The race was quite interesting but unfortunately, Team Belarus remained without medals on this day.

This is how TV audience sees a biathlon competition – maximum information, lots of cameras and every detail on the screen. Captions throughout the distance allow us to watch every breath of an athlete. However, there are many ordinary things are hidden from our eyes. What we don’t see is kilometers of wires, through which information flows including about athletes’ results at shooting ranges.
Junior biathlete from France: Belarus has an excellent track, better than that in Austria! On February 17, the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships Biathlon 2015 officially open in Belarus' Raubichi. More than 600 athletes from 37 countries have already arrived in Minsk. This is the first time Belarus has hosted a competition of such a high level. On the eve of the official start, shooting skiers shared first impressions. Teams from Austria, Germany, Sweden and Canada landed in the Belarusian capital on February 15. Young athletes were preparing intensively for the races.

Raubichi ski complex: History The sports complex derives its name from a local village. Once man with an ancient name Rouba lived here, while his children and grandchildren were called roubichi (belonging to the Rouba family), the village entered the annals with this very name.  When in the Soviet years, the authorities were looking for a place for the World Cup Biathlon, Raubichi proved to be better than other venues, including the Belarusian Logoysk. Suitable climate, the wind rose, and location near both the capital and the airport.

Germans were the first to train indoors in winter when the field hockey season is over.  Later, indoor hockey became a new sport.
