Belarus to take on Qatar in 2015 Men's Junior World Handball Championship round of 16 The Belarusian junior handball team did not leave a chance to the last opponent in the group stage of the world championship. Oleg Shareiko's side defeated peers from Paraguay 49:16.  Thus, Belarusians finished second in his sextet, behind Sweden. On July 28 our juniors will take on Qatar in the round of 16. Other most awaited matches of this stage include the ties Spain v Russia, Brazil v Denmark and France v Norway.

It will take place on September 6, 2016, according to Pressball. The draw placed Belarus in a very difficult group. The draw for the FIFA World Cup's European Zone Qualification took place on Saturday in St. Petersburg. Belarus is in Group A together with the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Bulgaria, and Luxembourg. Team Belarus to take part in European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi Belarus not long ago sent athletes to Azerbaijan, where they defended the honor of the country at the 1st European Games in Baku. On July 25, the younger national team went to Tbilisi. That city hosted the opening ceremony of the European Youth Festival. Belarus is represented in six of the nine sports: swimming, gymnastics, tennis, athletics, cycling and judo. Expectations are high but there is no pressure on the team.

The event brought together over a hundred participants. Dinamo Minsk through to Europa League 3rd qualifying round FC Dinamo Minsk have entered the 3rd round of the 2015/16 Europa League qualification after defeating Cherno More 5-1 on aggregate. In today's return leg, the Minsk club won 4-0 at home. Korytko scored with a brilliant shot a free kick at the end of the first half. Cherno More were reduced to 10 men late into the first half. After 58 minutes, Nenad Adamovic fired a short from distance that flew into the top corner of the net. Fatos Bećiraj added a third and fourth on 86 and 90+2 minutes.

Last season, Dinamo for the first time in history qualified for the Europa League groups stage but came in last in their section.

Shahktyor Soligorsk to play return match of the Europa League 2nd qualifying round FC Shakhtyor Soligrosk are now in Austria to prepare for the second leg of the Europa League qualification against Wolfsberger. Shakhtyor have to score at least twice and concede no more than once to get through. The Austrians were not allowed to play on home turf since their staduim has a lot of standing places, which is against the tournament's rules. Hypo-Arena will host the game instead, a super modern stadium, which by the way hosted a couple of EURO 2008 matches.

Belarus win in opening game of 2015 Men's Junior World Handball Championship The 2015 Men's Junior World Handball Championship is now underway in Brazil. Belarus played their first match against the Netherlands. The final score 37:25 in favor of Belarus fully reflects the balance of power on the court. In Group C, Belarus will also play against Russia, Paraguay, Tunisia and Sweden. It it Swedes who Belarusians will take on in the second match. Sweden won in their opener against Tunisia. The game against Sweden is due on July 22.

Belarus defeat Turkey in second round of Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II Belarusian tennis players defeated the visiting Turkish team and reached the third round of Group II Euro-African zone of the Davis Cup. To determine the winner, the sides had to play all five matches.  On the first day, on July 17, the rivals exchanged victories.   On the second day, on July 18, there was held a doubles match. Belarusian Max Mirnyi (38th in the doubles ranking) and Sergei Betov (74) were much stronger than Baris Erguden (679) and Anil Yuksel (668), 6:2, 6:1, 6:4.

Shakhtyor Soligorsk may face Borussia Dortmund in Europa League 3rd qualifying round After today’s draw in Nyon, FC BATE Borisov and other Belarusian clubs learned their possible rivals in the next rounds of the Champions League and Europa League. BATE may face the winner of the Videoton v New Saints tie. The Hungarian side were stronger in the first away game 1-0. The Champions League 3rd round games will take place on 28/29 July and 4/5 August. BATE won 2-1 against Ireland’s Dundalk at home at Borisov Arena.

Famous Belarusian athlete receives 4-year ban for doping Famous Belarusian athlete, participant of the Olympics 2012 and World Championship 2013, winner of 4th place at indoor Euro 2013, the champion of Belarus in the 800 meters event (1:44.43) Anis Ananenko is suspended for 4 years for the use of gene doping (international classification GW 1516), according to a disciplinary decision NADA Anti-Doping Commission as of July 14.  According to the official site of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), the count of punishment starts from 16 June 2015 and will end June 15, 2019.

Domracheva may miss next season through illness Currently, the Olympic champion biathlete Darya Domracheva of Belarus is not training. Earlier Domracheva said that she was diagnosed with a viral disease - mononucleosis. According to the Belarus 1 TV channel, recovery may take up to three months. There is a possibility that Domracheva may miss the upcoming season. Earlier, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) published the calendar of the World Cup season 2015/16 and the World Championships in Holmenkollen. The season starts on 29 November.
Shakhtyor Soligorsk succumb to 0-1 home defeat against Wolfsberger Belarusian clubs July 16 started in the second qualifying round of the Europa League. Salihorsk's Shakhter lost the home game against Wolfsberger AC 0-1.  Shakhter managed to get together and organize a good attack only on 15 minutes but Kovalev's powerful strike went wide. Both teams were cautious, knowing the price of mistakes. By the middle of the first half the game equalized but the home team lacked attacking moves.

FC Dinamo Minsk pull off 1-1 draw in Europa League qualifier vs Cherno More Belarusian clubs July 16 started in the second qualifying round of the Europa League. Dinamo Minsk were more convincing in the away game against Varna's Cherno More, which ended 1-1. Dinamo Minsk did not have the best of matches in Bulgaria's Varna but managed to achieve an acceptable outcome. The hosts attacked for the most of the match but scored only once. After 11 minutes, Mathias Coureur dealt with Politevich and Edigaryan in the penalty area and beat Gutor.

Max Mirnyi to play for Belarus against Turkey in Davis Cup A Davis Cup draw was held in Istanbul to decide on the order of matches between Belarus and Turkey in Group II of the Euro-African zone. On the first day of the competition on July 17, there will be held two singles matches. Egor Gerasimov (world No 327) plays with Marcel Ilhan (78) followed by the Dmitry Zhirmont (241) v Cem İlkel (438) match. 
Dinamo Minsk to face Cherno More in Europa League 2nd round qualifier On July 15 in the morning, the delegation of FC Dinamo Minsk flew to Bulgaria for the season's first Europa League match. The team will face Cherno More from Varna in the first leg of the second qualifying round.  Cherno More Varna is a rather modest club who took 8th place in the Bulgarian championship last season but made a historic achievement winning the Bulgarian Cup after ousting Slavia Sofia, Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Levski Sofia.

Stubborn Irish succumb to narrow defeat in Borisov in Champions League qualifier Belarus' FC BATE Borisov faced a tough challenge from Ireland's FC Dundalk in the Champions League second qualifying round. The Belarusians, however, managed to snatch a narrow yet important 2-1 win at home on July 15. BATE quickly took the lead in the 11th minute, with Rodionov making a stunning pass to Karnitsky who didn't hesitate with the shot and beat Rogers from distance.
Azarenka back into WTA top 20 Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka at the end of Wimbledon moved up 5 notches in the updated WTA ranking and entered the top twenty. At Wimbledon, Victoria Azarenka reached the quarterfinals, where in three sets lost to the future winner of the tournament, top tennis player of the world American Serena Williams. As a result, Azarenka has risen from 24th to 19th place.

Belarus holds last home friendly before 2015 Men's Junior World Handball Championship By the end of the week the U21 national handball team of Belarus will go to the Handball World Championships in Brazil. On July 14, the Belarusian team held their last home friendly. These guys want to become part of the senior national team in the future. But to accomplish this mission, they have to work hard and win at the World Championships.   Belarus held pre-tournament friendlies against Russia in the past two days. Russians lost both games.

Belarusian midfielder Anton Putsila moves to Turkey's Gaziantepspor The Turkish football club Gaziantepspor on July 14 announced the signing of a two-year contract with 28-year-old Belarusian midfielder Anton Putsila. The player was earlier contracted to Torpedo Moscow where he scored four goals and became the team's top scorer. The capital's club took penultimate place and dropped out of the Premier League of the Russian Championship. Gaziantepspor finished in 10th place in the championship of Turkey, gaining as many points as Genclerbirligi where another Belarusian midfielder Alexander Hleb played half of last season.

They are based on the updated FIFA rankings. The Belarus national team, ranked 100th at the moment, will be drawn from the fifth pot.

Minsk bids for hosting 2019 and 2020 European Athletics Championships Minsk has submitted bids for the hosting of the 2019 and 2020 European Athletics Championships. While it is easier with the indoor championship (since Minsk Arena can easily host it) nothing is guaranteed in the case of the summer tournament. The main difficulty is that Dinamo Stadium has been undergoing renovations for several years now. But it is the very arena that is to host the athletics competitions for which Minsk has submitted a bid.

Dinamo Minsk says the club have a lot of ambitious tasks for the season. The team, who entered the playoffs last season, say they want to at least repeat this result.

Belarus remain in Division III of U18 Field Hockey European Championship The U18 Field Hockey European Championship (division III) completed in Minsk. From an organizational point of view, the tournament was flawless, but the result cannot please fans. The Belarusian team failed to win it and get a promotion to the higher division. They lost to Ukraine in the final, only one step from being promoted. After the final whistle it was 3-3 and the match was sent into the shootout. Nervousness did not let Belarus overcome their opponents on the home ground.
Belarusian swimmer Evgeny Tsurkin clinches gold at summer Unversiade 2015 Belarusian swimmer Evgeny Tsurkin added to his collection of awards another gold. This time the medal came at the Summer Universiade 2015, which continues in Gwangju, South Korea. The athlete stormed to gold in the men's 50m freestyle. Tsurkin not only finished first, but also set a new record of Belarus in 22.22 seconds.

Belarus get second victory at U18 Field Hockey European Championship Division III Belarus met Bulgaria in the second game of the U18 Field Hockey European Championships in Division III. The games are being held in Minsk. The first half of the Belarus v Bulgaria game was rich in goals, with each side scoring twice. The same happened in the second period and it seemed that the game would be nothing else but a draw. However, inside a couple of minutes, at the end of the tie, Belarus netted two more goals to win 6-4. In the first game Belarus downed Lithuania 4-2.

Belarus pull off victory in opening match at U18 Field Hockey European Championships Minsk is hosting the Field Hockey European Championship (U18) in Division III. On the first day of the tournament the national team of Belarus won against Lithuania 4:2.  Opponents surprised Belarusians in the first half scoring twice. After the break, the hosts were able to take the initiative. Ivan Ignatenko pulled one back after 42 minutes. After four minutes, Stanislav Levkin equalized 2:2. Nikolay Voronich added a third after a free-kick. Pavel Korsik set the final score two minutes before the final whistle 4:2.

Azarenka falls to S.Williams in 2015 Wimbledon quarterfinal The leader of the Belarusian women's national tennis team Victoria Azarenka was defeated by top-ranked American Serena Williams in a three-set match (6:3, 2:6, 3:6) at Wimbledon's quarterfinal stage. The match lasted two hours and three minutes. This is Azarenka's seventeenth defeat by Williams Jr. in WTA tournaments, tenth in the Grand Slam series and third in 2015 (Madrid, Roland Garros and Wimbledon).

Shakhter Soligorsk down Glenavon in Europa League 1st qualifying round first leg Two Belarusian football clubs started their European football season. Zhodino's Torpedo-BelAZ and Shakhter Soligorsk held the opening matches of the 1st qualifying round of the Europa League. Both Belarusian representatives played their games away. Igor Kriushenko's Torpedo Zhodino owned initiative and created some dangerous moments, but their accuracy was not enough. Their opponents from Albania, FK Kukësi, in turn, were better in finishing and scored two goals from distance for a 2:0 scoreline by the end of 90 minutes.

Azarenka into Wimbledon 3rd round, Govortsova sets personal record The Belarusian tennis player Olga Govortsova advanced to the third round of Wimbledon beating France's Alize Cornet (25) 7:6 (8:6), 2:6, 6:1.  This result is the best in the Belarusian's career. Earlier she could not advance further than the second round at Wimbledon.  Her third-round opponent will be Slovakian Magdaléna Rybáriková.  The former world No.1 Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, thanks to the victory over Belgian Kirsten Flipkens, also entered the third round of Wimbledon.

Dinamo Minsk to open new KHL season August 25 HC Dinamo Minsk, Belarus, will begin the new season in the Kontinental Hockey League on August 25 with an away game against Spartak Moscow. On August 27, Ľubomír Pokovič's side will meet champions SKA in St. Petersburg. The first home encounter will take place on August 30 against Dinamo Riga. On September 2, the Belarusian club face Finnish Jokerit. It was the team to whom Dinamo lost in the last season's playoffs (1:4).

In the first round the 26-year-old Olga Govortsova (WTA No122) coped with Romanian 24-year-old Andrea Mitu (71), 6:1, 6:1. The match lasted only 51 minutes. In the second round, Alize Cornet (No27, France) will be Govortsova's opponent.

Belarusian students go to the 2015 Summer Universiade Belarusian students have departed for the Summer Universiade. A solemn farewell ceremony for our sports delegation will be held June 29 at the Belarusian State University.  The delegation is composed of representatives of 12 higher educational institutions of the country. The 28th World Summer Universiade will be held from 4 to 14 July in South Korea.
Belarus fall to Spain, miss out on Eurobasket 2015 bronze Belarusian basketball players lost the match for the bronze medals of Eurobasket 2015 to Spain and took 4th place at the championships in Budapest. This is the second time the Belarusian has taken 4th place at Eurobasket. Last time Belarusians competed for bronze in Riga in 2009 and also lost against Spain in the third-place tie. The national team of Belarus took part in the European championship for the fifth time. At the European Championship in Italy in 2007 Anatoly Buyalsky's team took bronze. In Latvia in 2009 they finished fourth.

Belarusian athletes back from European Games Another "medal-packed" Baku plane landed at National airport Minsk. A number of Belarusian athletes returned from the European Games with a bunch of medals. Excitement reigned in the waiting room and everyone impatiently wanted to congratulate their teammates or relatives. Fans:We cheered very much for all our gymnasts and especially for trampoline jumpers. Every time you experience some incredible feeling, sincerely rejoice when they win.

Belarus into Women's EuroBasket 2015 semis The women's basketball team of Belarus in their trademark dramatic style won a ticket to the semifinals of the European Championship. Coach Anatoly Buyalsky's charges were 39:20 ahead in the middle of the second quarter. But Lithuanians replied with some good attacks, which eventually led to them trailing by only five points. Some 1.5 seconds before the end of the match Ekaterina Snytina made a bad mistake and the ball went out. Fortunately, Lithuanians were not able to score and the scoreboard read 68:66 in favor of Belarus.

National 3x3 Basketball League opens in Minsk The National 3x3 Basketball League opened in the Belarus capital Minsk on June 21. The league games will be held at the skating rink close to the Palace of Sport, which is now completely renovated for streetball purposes. The National Basketball League "3x3 Palova" (English: 3x3 Half) creates an opportunity for players, both professionals and amateurs, to express themselves.The league has 5 categories: elite, general, U-16, U-18 and women.

Belarusian athletes compare European Games to real Olympics Belarusian athletes comparing European Games in Baku with Olympics Azerbaijan had only two years to prepare the capital Baku and the country for the hosting of such an important event: the first European Games. Baku received the new shooting center, aquatics center and water polo arena, two cycling parks and the main arena. Part of the competitions were held, however, far from the capital. The rowing canal, which is about 300km from Baku, in the town of Mingachevir, hosted the canoeing and kayaking events. They brought Belarus several gold medals.

Belarus lose to France at women's Eurobasket 2015, qualify for playoffs Belarusian basketball players suffered another humiliating defeat at the women's European basketball championship. On Sunday Anatoly Buyalsky's team went down to one of the main favorites of the tournament France 58:64 (10:20, 19:20, 14:12, 15:12). The Belarusians started the match badly, falling 16 points behind in the middle of the second quarter (18:34). Nevertheless, Belarus did not give up and resisted until the last minute. At the end of the match, the deficit was reduced to only three points.

Belarus' Melitina Stanyuta settles for bronze at European Games in Baku Another two bronze medals for Belarus at the European Games. Melitina Stanyuta posted a good performance in the individual all-around in Baku and took third place.  Stanyuta was behind two Russians. Another Belarusian Ekaterina Galkina was sixth. In the morning of June 19 Ekaterina Borisevich, Veronika Nabokina and Karina Sandovich showed third best result in sports acrobatics. Belarusian team takes rhythmic gymnastics bronze in group exercises at European Games The first set of awards in rhythmic gymnastics has been contested at the Baku European Games. In the all-around group exercises, the national team of Belarus won bronze in the all-around. In the first routine with five ribbons Belarusians showed only seventh result, earning 16.950 points.  But in the exercises with clubs and hoops Belarusians were brilliant, earning the top spot - 17.900, making the total score 34.850. It allowed them to take third step on the podium.

The final result showed Viktor Chaika 177.4 points. The Serbian athlete Zorana Arunovic (199.5) won gold while Spain's Sonia Franquet (196.3).  Later, men will define the best athlete in the same discipline. Two Belarusians - Vitaly Kudi and Yevgeny Zaichik - will take part.

Belarus into second stage of EuroBasket Women 2015 The women's national basketball team of Belarus, after victories over Italy and Poland, won in their third match in a row at the European Championship, beating one of the favorites of the tournament Turkey in the Romanian town of Oradea.  Suffice it to say that Turkey took medals from two previous Euros silver in 2011 and bronze in 2013. At the World Championships in 2014 the Turkish team took 4th place, and were 5th at the 2012 Olympics in London. Belarus continues preparation for Euro 2016 qualifier against Spain The Belarusian national football team continues to prepare for the Euro 2016 qualifier against European champions Spain.  After Sunday's defeat at the hands of Russia 2:4 coach Alexander Khatskevich’s side conducted the first training session. Denis Laptev made an international debut against Russia. The FC Slavia Mozyr striker is the top scorer in the Belarusian championship now. Also in the team is Ivan Mayevsky, who is currently considered to be one of the best midfielders of the Polish championship.
