HC Yunost Minsk closer to Belarus' Extraliga gold
Only one match was held on Tuesday as part of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Championship. But what a match that was!
HC Neman took on HC Yunost in Grodno. The teams were in fact fighting for the gold medals of the regular season (Extraliga), while the victory over the main competitor almost certainly meant additional psychological advantage in the upcoming playoff.
As a result, the Minsk team achieved a 3:1 success. In the tournament table, they are seven points ahead of the Grodno team.
Belarus defeat Germany at FIB Bandy World Championship
The Belarus national bandy team have got their first victory at the FIB Bandy World Championship, which is taking place in Sweden.
In the second game Belarus met Germany. The match ended in a draw 7:7 but Belarus won after the penalty shootout.
Previously the Belarus bandy players lost to the Norwegians. Today, in the final match of the group stage, Belarus team will take on the USA.
Belarus to face Romania in Davis Cup Euro-African zone Group I

Belarus women's team became silver medalists of the EuroHockey Junior Indoor Championships (U21), which ended in Vienna.

The Belarusians opened the score of the match, but during the second half the opponents managed to fight back and even prevail in the shootout.

Belarusian biathletes 6th in World Cup Antholz 2017
The last stage Biathlon World Cup before Biathlon World Championship ended in Italian Antholz. The last races were women's relay.
The Belarusian four showed 6th best result losing to the German team more than 1.5 minutes. France and Italy teams took the rest of the podium.

Belarusian Futsal Cup 2017 winner determined
Gomel hosted the final of the Belarusian Futsal Cup. In the last game the defending champion MFC Lidselmash met with Dorozhnik Minsk.
The meeting turned out to be surprisingly intriguing and captivating. By the third minute Klochko made a double letting Lidselmash grab a 2:0 lead.
In response, Yuri Rabyko had his double and soon Dorozhnik went ahead 3:2.
Belarus knocked out of IHF World Men's Handball Championship 2017
The Belarusian national men's handball team were defeated in the last 16 of the IHF World Men's Handball Championship and were eliminated from the tournament.
Coach Yuri Shevtsov’s Belarus met Sweden and did not have a chance in the match.
The Belarusians were not able to impose any serious fight and by the second half the advantage of the Tre Cronor was already the impressive 13 points. The score at the end of the game was 41:22 in favor of the Swedes.
Belarusians’ best striker was traditionally Artsem Karalek, with seven points on his tally.
Azarenka to play at US Open 2017?
The Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka wants to play at the US Open this summer, according to reports in the athlete’s fan group in social media with reference to Tennis Channel.
Azarenka said she wants to return to tennis in the summer or a little earlier, but only if she is certain she is ready for it. Now the player is recovering after the birth of her son in December 2016.
Victoria admits that fatigue after playing tennis cannot be compared with her present workload.
French Anti-Doping Agency: Nothing on four Belarusian rowers
The French Anti-Doping Agency says they have nothing on four Belarusian rowers. The National Olympic Committee of Belarus received the relevant message January 21.
In the spring of 2016, during preparations for the Summer Olympics in Rio, the Belarus rowing team was subjected to a search by local police in France. Then the International Federation of canoe athletes accused the Belarusians of doping. Thus the men's rowing team did not get into the Rio Olympics, at which they had been considered among the favorites.

Belarus' Kushnir wins Men's Aerials event at Fresstyle Ski World Cup in USA
Olympic champion Anton Kushnir has won the Men's Aerials event at the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Lake Placid.
The Belarusian freestyle skier scored 120.36 points, slightly ahead of American Mac Bohonnon. Russia's Maxim Burov has become third.
Maxim Gustik took ninth place and Artem Bashlakov 21st.
On the women's side, American Ashley Caldwell celebrated the victory. Other places on the podium were taken by Daniel Scott of Australia and Krisina Spiridonova from Russia.
Dakar 2017: Belarusian crew into top six
The Belarusian crew of Alexander Vasilevsky has shown 10th best time at the 11th stage of the rally Dakar rising to sixth place in the overall standings.
The penultimate special stage with a length of about 300km included both dunes and high-speed sections. The best Belarusian crew was the one of Alexander Vasilevsky, who spent on it 4 hours and 25 minutes, and thus got into the top ten. The winner was KamAZ's Eduard Nikolaev, who surpassed the Belarusians by almost 29 minutes.
BATE among top 20 European clubs by revenue in 2015/2016 season
FC BATE Borisov has been ranked among the top 20 clubs in Europe in terms of income in the 2015/2016 season. According to Pressball, the Yellow-Blues during this period earned 24 million euros.
This allowed the team to take places from 18th to 20th.
Juventus from Italy was the top earning team that season, with 92 million euros.
The total operating revenue of European clubs in the 2015/16 season decreased by 9% and amounted to 727 million euros.
Domracheva 13th in 2017 Ruhpolding sprint
The Belarusian biathlete Darya Domracheva was in 13th place in the World Cup Biathlon sprint on January 14 in German Ruhpolding.

The Belarusian handball players have lost their first match of the 2017 World Championship in France against Chile 28:32 (14:14). The match took place at Rouen on January 13.
Head coach Yury Shevtsov's Belarus were the favorites. However, in the first half the teams did not reveal the winner, while in the second period, the Belarusian team did not manage to organize their attack properly. Chileans had a better ending of the match and in the end they even managed to go in front and pulled out a victory.
Belarus’ number one handball player Sergei Rutenko finishes professional career
The most successful Belarusian handball player of the last decade Sergei Rutenko has decided to finish his playing career. The athlete reported about his intention at the press conference in the morning on January 12.
Sergei Rutenko boasts six wins in the EHF Champions League as well as a record transfer fee during his move to Barcelona in 2009.

Voting for the best athletes of 2015-2016 has started in Belarus.
You can support your favourite candidate at triumph.by until January, 31. As in 2016, you can use both print and electronic ballots.
After counting the votes the jury will choose the winners in four categories: “The best result of the year”, “Breakthrough of the year”, “The most striking moment” and “For the will to win.”
The names of the winners will be announced at the ceremony at the end of February 2017.
Belarusian Sports Olympus 2016 awards
A number of Belarusians have been honored with the President's special prize Belarusian Sports Olympus for significant contribution to the development and popularization of physical culture and sports in the country.
Among the awardees are an editor of the team sports department at the newspaper Sports Panorama Ruslan Vasiliev, basketball coach-instructor of Grodno State College of Olympic Reserve Alexander Shimkoviak and athlete-instructor of the national athletics team Elvira Herman.

ESports becomes official sports discipline in Belarus
The Belarus Ministry of Justice has registered the national public association Belarusian Federation of eSports.
"This public association was created for the purpose of development of e-sports in the Republic of Belarus, as part of the international sports movement and the training of citizens for life in the information society, a healthy lifestyle," says the ministry.
Pressball commentator Andrei Vashkevich says this is a historical event: "The federation will become the main in Belarus very quickly."

This final is intriguing, because last year, in 2016, the same teams reached the final of the XII Christmas tournament. Back then, the teams scored only three goals, which is few for an amateur game. But Belarus did win 2:1.

Belarusians come 4th at Dakar 2nd stage
Belarusian Sergei Vyazovich's crew has clocked the fourth best time at the second stage of the Dakar rally. Belarusians are competing at Dakar in the truck class only.
Vyazovich was 2 minutes and 52 seconds behind the winner - Dutchman Martin van den Brink.
Two other Belarusian MAZ crews finished in 18th and 23rd positions.

Belarus for the 13th time hosts the Christmas tournament among ice hockey amateurs for prize of the President of Belarus. In 2017, representatives of 14 states came to Minsk to participate in ice battles.
This is thanks to the fact that a unique team of the Balkans is taking part in the tournament. It brings together players from eight countries at once.
Belarus is traditionally represented by the team of the President. All the games are held at two ice hockey rinks of Chizhovka Arena, which is certainly convenient for the fans.

The Belarusian national ice hockey team have won 7:3 at the start of 13th Christmas International Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament for the prize of the President of Belarus. Belarus won against rivals from the United Arab Emirates.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko also played in the match and scored Belarus' last, seventh, goal of the game.
Before that, Alexander Lukashenko earned several assist points.
Last year, Belarus also met the UAE team at this stage and back then also celebrated a victory - 11:8.

Dinamo Minsk have beaten SKA St. Petersburg, the KHL championship leader, in a stunning game which ended 5:4 (1:0, 4:1, 0:3). The fantastic match took place at Minsk-Arena on January 3.
Dinamo had two great periods. By the 34th minute, the score was (would you believe it?) 5:0 - just incredible! Goals were scored by Dinamo debutants Pettersson (6th and 26th minute), Aaron Palushaj (22nd), Stepanov (33rd) and Drozd (34th).

Alexander Hleb becomes father for the first time
35-year-old Belarusian footballer Alexander Hleb has become father for the first time. His wife Svetlana gave Alexander a daughter.
Svetlana gave birth in Minsk, in the same hospital as the famous biathlete Darya Domracheva.
Mom and baby are doing well. Hleb is happy and is now with his family.
The news about the birth of the daughter was a pleasant surprise for Hleb's fans. Only close friends knew that the couple was expecting a baby.
HC Dinamo Minsk wins first game at Spengler Cup
Dinamo Minsk have started the Spengler Cup with a victory. The tournament is now underway in Switzerland. In their opener, The Bison met Canada.
The founders of ice hockey were not represented by the strongest players. In fact only players contracted to European hockey clubs took part in the match.
The Minsk team opened the scoring but Alexander Materukhin's goal was outnumbered by three goals Dinamo conceded afterwards. Yevgeny Kovyrshin made it 3:2 just before the first break.

Renowned Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka has become a mother. The 27-year-old athlete gave birth to a son in the USA. Mom and baby are doing well.
Victoria shared the good news with her fans in a social network. She called the birth of the son the most difficult, but at the same time the best victory.

Belarus may replace Tyumen as IBU World Cup Biathlon 2017 host
Russia's Tyumen may be stripped of the IBU World Cup Biathlon because of the doping scandal, reported the TV channel Belarus 5, which is cited by the sports newspaper Pressball.
As stated by the TV channel, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) has compiled a list of possible candidates to replace Tyumen. A Belarusian biathlon complex is on the list.

Belarus national football team manager Alexander Khatskevich resigns

Belarusian Vladimir Chepelin has won bronze in the 20km individual race at the first stage of World Cup in Ostersund, Sweden.

Surprising bronze for Belarusian in individual race at IBU World Cup 2016/17
Belarusian Daria Yurkevich was the only one of a hundred participants of the race who did not miss a target in four firing ranges at the IBU World Cup's women's individual 15km race.

The baby was born on October 1 at Minsk's maternity hospital No6 in Belarus. Ole Einar was near Darya during childbirth. Parents did not voice the name of the newborn for a long time and finally announced it on 14 October.
