The national football team of Belarus is ready to play against any opponent, and a draw or a win will be a successful outcome of the next World Cup qualifying match against Sweden. Manager Igor Kriushenko shared expectations of the upcoming match before flying to Stockholm.
The head coach has almost determined the starting lineup but some positions still require a particular decision, including the goalkeeper. By the way, goalie Sergei Chernik will leave the team after the battle with the Swedes on March 25.

Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka has pleased her with good news from personal life. The Olympic champion said in her social network that her three-month-old son Leo had received a Belarusian passport.

Igor Kriushenko appointed Belarus national football team manager
Igor Kriushenko has become manager of the national football team of Belarus. This decision was taken at the Executive Committee meeting held on 22 March by the Belarusian Football Federation (ABFF).
Earlier Kriushenko was caretaker manager after the resignation of the previous head coach Alexander Khatskevich under whom Belarus did not get a successful start in the WC 2018 qualification gaining only 2 points in four matches.
Also, the ABFF meeting decided that Grodno will be the venue for the Belarusian Cup 2017.
Hleb out for Belarus' WC qualifiers against Sweden and Macedonia

Belarusian Football Cup quarterfinals: FC Dinamo Minsk draw FC Dinamo Brest
First matches of the Belarusian Cup quarterfinal were played last weekend in Belarus.
FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk easily won the away match against FC Lokomotiv Gomel (D1) with the score 3:0, while a derby involving FC Dinamo Minsk and FC Dinamo Brest ended in a draw. The host team was up till the half time with the score 2:0. The goals were scored by Premudrov and Galovic. After the half time, Brest fotball players evened the score, the goals were scored by Fameye and Osuchukwu, the final score was 2:2.
HC Griffony of Nikolai Lukashenko win Golden Puck ice hockey tournament
Minsk's HC Griffony have defended the champion's title of the republican competition Golden Puck in the younger age group (born in 2004-2005) in division A.
In the final match, which was held on March 12 at Chizhovka Arena, the team of the Tsentralnyi district of Minsk beat HC Medved of the Moskovsky district of Minsk 6:2.

Alina Talai wins silver at European Athletic Championship 2017
As many as two more medals were won by Belarusian athletes at the Indoor European Athletic Championship 2017.
Alina Talai took silver in Belgrade.
The Belarusian athlete lost 0.04 seconds to a German athlete Cindy Roleder in the 60-metre hurdles. The result of Alina Talai is 7.92 seconds. It is worth mentioning, that she showed better results at the qualification rounds.
Probably Alina felt nervous in the final, the equipment registered false start twice.
HC Dinamo Minsk knocked out of KHL playoffs
The first day of spring became the last day for Dinamo Minsk in the current season of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Dinamo Minsk trailing 1:3 in KHL playoff

Minsk to host 2017 Muay Thai World Championships
More than 700 participants from 100 countries will take part in the Muay Thai world championships, which will be held in Minsk on 3-12 May. General secretary of the International Federation of Muay Thai (IFMA) Stephan Fox stressed that Belarus is developing sport at all levels, from schools to universities.

Belarus takes 7th place at IBU World Championship Biathlon 2017
The Biathlon World Championships in the Austrian Hochfilzen came to an end. On the last competition day, biathletes were competing in women’s and men’s mass starts.
The German biathlete Laura Dahlmeier won a gold medal once again. The Belarusian biathlete Nadezhda Skardino became 16th and Darya Domracheva 19th.

HC Yunost wins Belarusian ice hockey championship 2016-2017
HC Yunost Minsk has outperformed its opponents in the Belarus Ice Hockey Championship. After Sunday’s victory HC Yunost got 1st place in the regular championship, a place in the Continental Cup and the right to start the play-off series at home.

Belarus to take on Netherlands in Fed Cup on February 11-12
A draw of the Fed Cup world group between Belarus and the Netherlands was held today at Minsk City Hall. It determined the order of play the upcoming weekend.
Tomorrow in the first match at Chizhovka-Arena Aliaksandra Sasnovich will take on Michaella Krajicek, while in the next match Aryna Sabalenka will compete with Kiki Bertens.
The next day Aliaksandra Sasnovich plays Kiki Bertens, while Aryna Sabalenka will encounter Michaella Krajicek.
Domracheva in final Belarus squad for World Championship Biathlon
Darya Domracheva has been included in the final squad of the Belarusian team at the World Championships Biathlon. The championship starts on February 9 in Austrian Hochfilzen.
The women's team will also include Nadezhda Skardino, Irina Krivko, Darya Yurkevich and Nadezhda Pisareva. The men's team is as follows: Vladimir Chepelin, Dmitry Abashev, Sergei Bocharnikov, Roman Eletnov and Maxim Vorobei.

Belarus to play friendly with FYR Macedonia March 28
Belarus national football team will play against FYR Macedonia on March 28. The friendly match will be held in Skopje at the stadium Philip II, the press service of the Belarusian Football Federation reports. The BFF has reached an agreement to conduct this match with the Football Federation of FYR Macedonia.

Kevin Kurányi in talks with Belarus' Dinamo Brest?

Azarenka returnes to tennis court 1.5 months after childbirth
Belarusian Victoria Azarenka has started training on tennis court only six weeks after giving birth, according to by.tribuna.com.
World No.1 tennis player Serena Williams has visited Azarenka. Photos from training and athletes' meeting have appeared in social networks.
By the way, after Australian Open win Serena Williams was asked whether she misses the rivalry with Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka, who are both absent from tennis now.
She expressed hope that Azarenka would soon be back on court.
BC Tsmoki Minsk beat UNICS Kazan in a surprise VTB United League win
The Belarusian club Tsmoki Minsk has pleased its fans. The Dragons have stopped a run of seven consecutive defeats in the VTB United League, beating BC UNICS Kazan in extra time at home.
The final score was 87:85. In the course of the match, the Belarusian club’s gap reached 10 points. But eventually the hosts were able to turn the match around. The best for Tsmoki was Antonio Graves with 19 points. In the VTB United League table, BC Tsmoki are in the penultimate place.
Dinamo Minsk advance to 2016-2017 KHL playoff
HC Dinamo Minsk is in the playoff of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The Bison qualified early for the knockout round thanks to the away victory in penalty shootout over HC Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk. The regular time ended in a draw 2:2.
Klinkhammer и Korobov were among the scorers for the Belarusian team. In the penalty shootout, it was Dinamo’s Palushaj who brought victory to the Belarusians. Belarus sails past Romania in Davis Cup
The Belarusian tennis team have outplayed Romania in the match of Davis Cup Group I Euro-African Zone. Everything was decided on the last day and in the last match.
In a very serious contest Egor Gerasimov turned out to be stronger than his higher-ranked opponent – Adrian Ungur, 7:6, 6:4, 6:4. Thus Belarus won the tie 3:2.

HC Yunost Minsk closer to Belarus' Extraliga gold
Only one match was held on Tuesday as part of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Championship. But what a match that was!
HC Neman took on HC Yunost in Grodno. The teams were in fact fighting for the gold medals of the regular season (Extraliga), while the victory over the main competitor almost certainly meant additional psychological advantage in the upcoming playoff.
As a result, the Minsk team achieved a 3:1 success. In the tournament table, they are seven points ahead of the Grodno team.
Belarus defeat Germany at FIB Bandy World Championship
The Belarus national bandy team have got their first victory at the FIB Bandy World Championship, which is taking place in Sweden.
In the second game Belarus met Germany. The match ended in a draw 7:7 but Belarus won after the penalty shootout.
Previously the Belarus bandy players lost to the Norwegians. Today, in the final match of the group stage, Belarus team will take on the USA.
Belarus to face Romania in Davis Cup Euro-African zone Group I

Belarus begins preparations for Second European Games

Belarus second at U21 EuroHockey Indoor Championships 2017
Belarus women's team became silver medalists of the EuroHockey Junior Indoor Championships (U21), which ended in Vienna.
In the final game Belarusian girls took on the Czechs.
The Belarusians opened the score of the match, but during the second half the opponents managed to fight back and even prevail in the shootout.
The Belarusians were defeated 1:2 and settled only for silver medals.
Belarusian biathletes 6th in World Cup Antholz 2017
The last stage Biathlon World Cup before Biathlon World Championship ended in Italian Antholz. The last races were women's relay.
The Belarusian four showed 6th best result losing to the German team more than 1.5 minutes. France and Italy teams took the rest of the podium.
Belarusian Darya Domracheva continues to recover after childbirth and her results have not been pleasing recently. In the women's 15km individual race she missed the target six times!
Belarusian Futsal Cup 2017 winner determined
Gomel hosted the final of the Belarusian Futsal Cup. In the last game the defending champion MFC Lidselmash met with Dorozhnik Minsk.
The meeting turned out to be surprisingly intriguing and captivating. By the third minute Klochko made a double letting Lidselmash grab a 2:0 lead.
In response, Yuri Rabyko had his double and soon Dorozhnik went ahead 3:2.
Belarus knocked out of IHF World Men's Handball Championship 2017
The Belarusian national men's handball team were defeated in the last 16 of the IHF World Men's Handball Championship and were eliminated from the tournament.
Coach Yuri Shevtsov’s Belarus met Sweden and did not have a chance in the match.
The Belarusians were not able to impose any serious fight and by the second half the advantage of the Tre Cronor was already the impressive 13 points. The score at the end of the game was 41:22 in favor of the Swedes.
Belarusians’ best striker was traditionally Artsem Karalek, with seven points on his tally.
Azarenka to play at US Open 2017?
The Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka wants to play at the US Open this summer, according to reports in the athlete’s fan group in social media with reference to Tennis Channel.
Azarenka said she wants to return to tennis in the summer or a little earlier, but only if she is certain she is ready for it. Now the player is recovering after the birth of her son in December 2016.
Victoria admits that fatigue after playing tennis cannot be compared with her present workload.
French Anti-Doping Agency: Nothing on four Belarusian rowers
The French Anti-Doping Agency says they have nothing on four Belarusian rowers. The National Olympic Committee of Belarus received the relevant message January 21.
In the spring of 2016, during preparations for the Summer Olympics in Rio, the Belarus rowing team was subjected to a search by local police in France. Then the International Federation of canoe athletes accused the Belarusians of doping. Thus the men's rowing team did not get into the Rio Olympics, at which they had been considered among the favorites.
Belarus into 2017 World Men's Handball Championship playoff
The Belarus national handball team has advanced to the last 16 of the men's handball world championships after finishing their group in third place with only two wins.
Belarusians managed to get into the playoff after winning against Hungary (27:25) in the final match of the group stage, though almost no one believed in such an outcome (so far Belarusians had never defeated the Hungarians).
Minsk and Riga apply to host Ice Hockey World Championship 2021
In 2021, Belarusians may once again witness the grand sports event - the World Ice Hockey Championship. However, unlike the similar competition in 2014, this time Minsk plans to host the landmark championship together with western neighbor Riga.

Belarus' Kushnir wins Men's Aerials event at Fresstyle Ski World Cup in USA
Olympic champion Anton Kushnir has won the Men's Aerials event at the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Lake Placid.
The Belarusian freestyle skier scored 120.36 points, slightly ahead of American Mac Bohonnon. Russia's Maxim Burov has become third.
Maxim Gustik took ninth place and Artem Bashlakov 21st.
On the women's side, American Ashley Caldwell celebrated the victory. Other places on the podium were taken by Daniel Scott of Australia and Krisina Spiridonova from Russia.
Dakar 2017: Belarusian crew into top six
The Belarusian crew of Alexander Vasilevsky has shown 10th best time at the 11th stage of the rally Dakar rising to sixth place in the overall standings.
The penultimate special stage with a length of about 300km included both dunes and high-speed sections. The best Belarusian crew was the one of Alexander Vasilevsky, who spent on it 4 hours and 25 minutes, and thus got into the top ten. The winner was KamAZ's Eduard Nikolaev, who surpassed the Belarusians by almost 29 minutes.
BATE among top 20 European clubs by revenue in 2015/2016 season
FC BATE Borisov has been ranked among the top 20 clubs in Europe in terms of income in the 2015/2016 season. According to Pressball, the Yellow-Blues during this period earned 24 million euros.
This allowed the team to take places from 18th to 20th.
Juventus from Italy was the top earning team that season, with 92 million euros.
The total operating revenue of European clubs in the 2015/16 season decreased by 9% and amounted to 727 million euros.
Domracheva 13th in 2017 Ruhpolding sprint
The Belarusian biathlete Darya Domracheva was in 13th place in the World Cup Biathlon sprint on January 14 in German Ruhpolding.
Compared to the previous stage in Oberhof, this is a much better result. Back then Domracheva finished 37th missing once at two firing lines.
This time Daria did not miss once in the prone position but in the standing one she did miss the target once. She lost to the race leader Kaisa Mäkäräinen from Finland 1 minute and 34.8 seconds.
Chile defeat Belarus at 2017 world handball championship
The Belarusian handball players have lost their first match of the 2017 World Championship in France against Chile 28:32 (14:14). The match took place at Rouen on January 13.
Head coach Yury Shevtsov's Belarus were the favorites. However, in the first half the teams did not reveal the winner, while in the second period, the Belarusian team did not manage to organize their attack properly. Chileans had a better ending of the match and in the end they even managed to go in front and pulled out a victory.
Belarus’ number one handball player Sergei Rutenko finishes professional career
The most successful Belarusian handball player of the last decade Sergei Rutenko has decided to finish his playing career. The athlete reported about his intention at the press conference in the morning on January 12.
Sergei Rutenko boasts six wins in the EHF Champions League as well as a record transfer fee during his move to Barcelona in 2009.
The Catalan club spent €1.2 million on the Belarusian handball player.

Voting for the best athletes of 2015-2016 has started in Belarus.
You can support your favourite candidate at triumph.by until January, 31. As in 2016, you can use both print and electronic ballots.
After counting the votes the jury will choose the winners in four categories: “The best result of the year”, “Breakthrough of the year”, “The most striking moment” and “For the will to win.”
The names of the winners will be announced at the ceremony at the end of February 2017.
Belarusian Sports Olympus 2016 awards
A number of Belarusians have been honored with the President's special prize Belarusian Sports Olympus for significant contribution to the development and popularization of physical culture and sports in the country.
Among the awardees are an editor of the team sports department at the newspaper Sports Panorama Ruslan Vasiliev, basketball coach-instructor of Grodno State College of Olympic Reserve Alexander Shimkoviak and athlete-instructor of the national athletics team Elvira Herman.
European Games in Minsk will be very successful, Pierce O'Callaghan says

ESports becomes official sports discipline in Belarus
The Belarus Ministry of Justice has registered the national public association Belarusian Federation of eSports.
"This public association was created for the purpose of development of e-sports in the Republic of Belarus, as part of the international sports movement and the training of citizens for life in the information society, a healthy lifestyle," says the ministry.
Pressball commentator Andrei Vashkevich says this is a historical event: "The federation will become the main in Belarus very quickly."

Belarus claim 2017 Christmas ice hockey tournament title
Belarus has won the main trophy of the Christmas International Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament for the prize of the President. Belarus won 7:3 against Finland in the final.

The most devoted fans of the tournament might say "Deja Vu". The Belarus-Finland final took place in 2016, too. Back then Belarus was stronger 2:1.

Belarus fired up ahead of Finland game at Christmas ice hockey tournament
Team of the Belarus President is competing in the Christmas ice hockey amateur tournament final against Finland now.
Belarus is now 1:0 ahead but the game still continues. Finns have it difficult in this match but they are fighting bravely.
This final is intriguing, because last year, in 2016, the same teams reached the final of the XII Christmas tournament. Back then, the teams scored only three goals, which is few for an amateur game. But Belarus did win 2:1.
UAE grab bronze at Christmas ice hockey tournament in Minsk
On January 7, the winner of the Christmas ice hockey amateur tournament for the prize of the President will be determined at Chizhovka Arena. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates won bronze in the third-place match.
Guests from the Gulf have beaten a very strong opponent – Slovakia – with the score 4:3.
In 2016, the Slovaks won third place at the Christmas tournament but this year gave way to the UAE, for whom this is the third tournament.

Darya Domracheva 37th in first race after childbirth

Belarus into 2017 Christmas ice hockey tournament final
The Belarus national ice hockey team have entered the final of the Christmas ice hockey amateur tournament for the prizes of the President of Belarus. Belarus defeated Switzerland 6:0.
Belarusians had playing advantage from the start of the tournament and did not leave a chance to the opponents. The first goal was scored already in the fourth minute.
Belarus has won the tournament nine times and three more times became silver medalists. The Swiss' best result was back in 2008 - fourth place.
Domracheva 'back in business' in Oberhof sprint
