Belarusian humanitarian aid has been delivered to Ecuador. On board the plane are necessities for the earthquake-affected region.
Tents, folding beds and blankets - all in all 50 tons of goods worth nearly $150,000.
The devastating earthquake of a magnitude of 7 and 8 points happened in Ecuador on April 16. The natural disaster - the strongest in 70 years - killed more than 600 people, 40 were missing. About 12,500 people were wounded and injured.

Deputy Premier: Well-being of Belarusians is major priority
The participants of the 5th All-Belarusian People's Assembly, who will represent the Belarusian capital, met in Minsk on May 30 with deputy premier Natalia Kochanova, who is responsible for social issues in the Belarusian government.

Scary images to appear on cigarette packs in Belarus, EEU technical regulations read
Belarusian tobacco manufacturers will be obliged to use frightening images on cigarette packs. Such are the requirements of new technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union, in which Belarus is a member state.
Tobacco producers have 365 days to introduce this packaging design.
Graphic images on the packs will contain the negative effects of smoking pictures - tumors, blindness, heart attack and others. Inscriptions will be made in Russian and Belarusian languages.

Belarus sends humanitarian aid to victims of Ecuador earthquake
On May 29 humanitarian aid was sent from Belarus to Ecuador. Blankets, tents and folding beds will be delivered to the areas affected by the severe earthquake. The total value of the goods is about BYR 3 billion.
The earthquake of a magnitude of 7.8 points occurred in mid-April and has become the most powerful in Ecuador since 1979. The disaster claimed the lives of 660 people. More than 2 million suffered. The quake almost completely destroyed the entire infrastructure in the region. Those who were left homeless are living in makeshift tent cities.
Poland cutting down Bialowieza Forest: Environmentalists alert
Poland has begun logging in the Bialowieza Forest. The decision is due to environmental considerations, authorities say. It is reported that the reason is the unsuccessful fight of foresters against bark beetle. Now almost 200,000 square meters of the primeval forest is being cut down.
Independence Day parade rehearsals due in Minsk 25 and 28 June
Legendary T-34s and the new generation of military equipment will be presented at the Independence Day parade in Minsk, Belarus, due on July 3, 2016. The military are preparing for the parade at the military airfield Lipki. Another rehearsal was held there May 26.

First Belarusian-Chinese robotics tournament opens in Minsk May 25
On May 25, the first Belarusian-Chinese robotics tournament started in Minsk.
During the day, 16 teams from Belarus and China competed in two disciplines: robotic race and in the category "Research of interplanetary space," where robots demonstrated agility and other skills.
The technological forum will last three days. On May 26, the participants will go to Brest for the second stage of the competition.
Two Stars show on CTV Channel names the best Belarusian musician and TV presenter
Yesterday, the CTV Channel aired the Audience Choice Award ceremony of the project Two Stars. The winners were determined by a popular vote, according to which the main prize went to the presenter Olga Burlakova and singer Alexei Khlestov. This duo sang with another seven couples taking part in the show.
The show has been going on for several weeks.
It consisted of four rounds, with live singing and an orchestra.
Winning the competition was the lyrical ballad I Love You To Madness.
Belarus' hero pilot Vladimir Karvat commemorated May 23
Relatives and friends, colleagues of the first Hero of Belarus Vladimir Karvat commemorated the hero pilot in the Brest region. The pilot heroically died in a plane crash 20 years ago.
In 1996, the pilot was carrying out a training flight. In the sky, the plane caught fire and went out of control. Vladimir Karvat sacrificed his life to save dozens of people: the pilot went on to control the blazing fighter from two settlements of the Baranovichi district. Experts claim that the pilot was holding the levers until the last second.
Belarus' Kapyl signs twin agreement with China's Chongqing
Kapyl has become a twin town of Chinese Chongqing. A delegation from China visited Kapyl district and got familiar with the economy, social life and history of the region.

Belarus celebrates Day of Slavic Literature and Culture. It is marked in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who in the late 9th century created a system of Old Church Slavonic alphabet and language.

Days of Belarusian Culture in Paris: Two Our Lady icons in focus
The spiritual heritage of Belarus was shown and discussed in France. Paris hosted a number of meetings within the framework of the Belarusian Culture Days focusing on two Belarusian Christian shrines - the Zhirovichi and Budslav Mother of God icons.

A portrait painted by the famous Belarusian artist Ivan Khrutsky in the XIX century was presented in Polotsk. It depicts the famous poet and public figure Adam Mickiewicz. The work was found by accident.
In 2010, the ancient Polotsk was announced the first cultural capital of Belarus. The same year, the name of the famous painter Ivan Khrutsky was included in the list of UNESCO's memorable dates. The exhibition of his works was timed to this very event. During the preparation of the exhibition the portrait was found.
EgyptAir aircraft crash was a terrorist act, Russian Federal Security Service says
Speaking at the Council of Heads of CIS special services in Minsk Director of the Russian Federal Security Service said that the disaster with the Egyptian A320 was an act of terrorism.
Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Federal Security Service: There was an accident with the EgyptAir plane. Apparently, this is a terrorist attack, which killed 66 citizens of more than 12 different countries.
Rescue drills at National Airport Minsk (video)
On May 19, Belarusian rescuers held drills in the national airport Minsk simulating a plane crash.
It takes three minutes for fire brigades to arrive at runway. In two more minutes, ambulance must be on site. According to scenario, before landing the plane disappeared from radars.
The military were also involved in today's search and rescue drills. The radars near the Machulishchi radiolocation station found the aircraft and gave its coordinates.
The Best TV Presenter 2016 of Belarus chosen
Belarus has chosen the best TV presenter of the country in 2016. The Audience Award voting for the TV contest Televershina on the CTV website has concluded. The cherished winner's statuette will be received by the public's favorite on May 20 at the Palace of the Republic at a solemn ceremony.

No Belarusians reported on board of crashed EgyptAir flight MS804
The passenger plane Paris-Cairo has disappeared from radars. It is already known that there were no Belarusian citizens on board. All indications are that the board crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.
On board were 56 passengers and 10 crew members - citizens of European countries, Africa and the Middle East.
Contact with the board was lost 20 minutes after the plane entered the airspace of Greece. It was found that the automatic systems filed an emergency signal at 05.26 Belarusian time.

The world's first "Primer" is of Belarusian origin, scientists say
The Belarusian primer turned out to be older than one thought. Until recently, it was considered that the first edition of a Belarusian ABC book is the one authored by Spyridon Sobol, dating back to 1631. But now scientists have made a discovery of a historic scale. They proved that the first book called Primer (ABC book) has Belarusian roots and was published much earlier, in 1618.
There are only two copies of this book in the world. One is stored in the UK while the other in Denmark.
Belarus' kids to be protected from harmful information through TV content rating system
Belarusian television and Internet websites will be obliged to label information according to appropriate age limits applied to particular content. Thus, Belarus will protect children from harmful information. Relevant amendments have been made to the laws on children's rights, advertising, the media and others.
Under the changes, all information products must be marked with special signs indicating the age category - 6, 12, 16 and 18+.
Belarus to provide humanitarian assistance to Ecuador earthquake victims
Belarus is going to provide humanitarian assistance to Ecuador. The country will send essential items worth about $150,000. Tents, folding beds and blankets.
The delivery of humanitarian aid will be provided by the Emergencies Ministry and the Ministry of Transport with the assistance of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

An international congress of cardiologists and physicians gathered in Minsk leading experts from 9 countries on May 13. Representatives of Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Canada, Sweden, Bosnia and Herzegovina discussed ways to reduce the number of sudden deaths from heart diseases.
Experts have noted that over the past 20 years, a number of positive changes had taken place in medicine, which has helped Belarus achieve success in minimizing deaths from heart attacks.

Belarus 12th in 2016 Eurovision semifinal 2
Belarus took 12th place in the Eurovision's second semifinal, read the results published by the European Broadcasting Union on May 15 after the Eurovision Grand Final, which was won by Ukraine, followed by Austalia and Russia.
The country was represented by IVAN, with the song Help You Fly. IVAN scored 52 points in televoting and 84 points from professional jury. Australia won the second semifinal (142 and 330 points), with Ukraine second (152, 287) and Belgium third (135, 274).
Belarusian Peace Fund turns 55
Belarusian Peace Foundation has turned 55. A meeting in Minsk on May 13 dealt with the main pages of the history of the Fund and its contribution to the peacekeeping activities of Belarus.

Belarus tightens responsibility for use and possession of drugs
Belarus is tightening responsibility for the use and possession of drugs. Amendments to the relevant bill were approved on May 12 by the House of Representatives. The document provides for stricter liability for owners of online stores and entertainment venues if they do not notify law enforcement authorities about the illegal traffic of banned substances.
There are clarifications on the grounds that allow placing juveniles in special medical and educational institutions. In addition, separate liability for drug use is introduced.

87% of Belarusian kids born in officially registered families in 2015
An increasing number of Belarusian families now give birth to a second and third children. In comparison with 2010, the number of second children in families has grown and reached 36.1%. For third and subsequent babies the figure is nearly 16.8%.
By the way, it is namely registered couples that give birth to the majority of young Belarusians. Officially registered couples gave birth to 87% of Belarusian kids in 2015.

Pushups for Peace campaign was held today in Vitebsk's Victory Square (by the way, one of the largest in Europe and the largest in Belarus).
The country has been living 25,933 days under a peaceful sky, without wars. This was the number of pushups the campaign participants from Vitebsk did today. Taking part in the campaign were tens of young people.

Unique masterpieces, bright places of Belarus’ capital, tourist attractions and the pride of Minsk. Works by People’s Artist Alexander Kishchenko can be seen in all parts of the city.
For instance, the mosaic picture “Partisans” has been decorating the side wall of the hotel Tourist (Turist) for more than ten years now. The canvas was created in 1973. It’s the first large-scale piece of art presented by Alexander Kishchenko to the Belarus capital. The area of the mosaic is 245 square meters and it took a couple of years to lay it out.
Televershina TV contest results due May 20: CTV Channel organizing award ceremony
The award ceremony of the Belarusian national TV contest Televershina will be held on May 20. The best programs, projects and personalities on the national television will be announced.
All in all there are 25 nominations. The main award of the competition is the Grand Prix TV Project of the Year.
The ceremony usually turns into a spectacular show. This year, it is the CTV Channel that organizes it.
Belarus' participants of Great Patriotic War to get higher pensions
Veterans of the Great Patriotic War get an old age pension, which is twice as much as the pension that other retirees get. Participants of the Great Patriotic War (part of WWII) and people who became disabled during that war get about 5.5 million rubles.
As many as 14,000 veterans are residing today in Minsk. Besides material support, each of them can count on a full range of social support. In particular, they will be able to get free medications and travel on public transport for free.
Number of workplace injuries falls by more than 50% in Minsk in 2010-2015
The number of workplace injuries has fallen by more than a half for the last five year in Minsk. The number of jobs with harmful and dangerous working conditions is reducing annualy. The rate of accidents in Minsk is one of the lowest in Belarus. However, three persons have died because of their carelessness and 30 have been critically injured since the beginning of 2016. The highest injury rate is still typical for construction and industrial fields.
Alexander Lukashenko presents Belarus' state awards ahead of Victory Day

Bobruisk to be Belarus’ cultural capital in 2017

History of Kalinina Square in Minsk
The name of Mikhail Kalinin (a soviet politician and party official, 1875-1946) wandered around Minsk for a long time; a part of Niamiha was named after him until the beginning of the 1950’s, but in the 1960’s it went over to a street and a square in the eastern part of the city.
Kalinina Square is the fifth square in Nezavisimosti Avenue. The design of the square was developed in 1953. And the first contours of the square started to show up a few years after. A straight range of columns of Minsk Botanical Garden appeared in 1957.
484 centenarians live in Belarus
There are seven times more women than men among Belarusian centenarians. All in all, there are 484 of people aged 100 or more in Belarus.
Among them are seven Belarusians over the age of 110.
Two of those 484 persons were born at the dawn of the 20th century. 115-year-old women live in the Grodno and Minsk regions.
These regions are leaders in the number of centenarians in Belarus. The smallest number of centenarians lives in the city of Minsk and Mogilev region.

Europe's largest parade of new technologies, Belarusian Industrial Forum, opened in Minsk May 3. By tradition, it brought together several hundred participants, including foreign ones. Natural increase rate in Minsk: 3,400 kids born in 3 months
The Belarus capital continues to impress with demographic records. In January-March, the number of Minsk residents increased by 3,400.
This is 149 more children than in the same period last year. The number of deaths has decreased by 24. Natural growth has been preserved.
Chances are high that the number of residents of Minsk continues to grow right at this moment.
International exhibition Mass Media in Belarus due in Minsk May 11-14

Mstislavl residents joinly restoring ancient church
An ancient church is being restored in Mstislavl, Belarus. It was built back in 1834. And in the beginning it was the main temple of the city. Over more than 150 years, the building witnessed WWII, religious persecution and more.
Valentina Timashkova has donated money for the renovation of the church for the second time. As an employee of a museum, she is well aware of the importance of this deed.
Copy of old miraculous icon brought to Minsk church
The Orthodox began to mark Bright Week. During the Easter week celebrations, Royal Gates in temples remain open in a sign that Christ, with his death and resurrection, opened to men the way to heaven. All week, church bells will sound louder than usual.

Large-scale bicycle parade held in Minsk
The largest season opening in the cycling history of Belarus was held in Minsk on 30 April. Despite the abundance of bicycle tracks, even car drivers gave the road to the cyclists. Pobediteley Avenue was closed for the sporting event for about two hours. Thousands of bicyclists from different countries took part in the event. Famous athletes and officials participated as well. There were held some competitions.
The event was held in Minsk’s Victory Park. It gathered more than 9,000 bicyclists who raced along Minsk’s streets in a form of a column.
Belarus’ largest solar electric plant to appear in Brahin district
The largest solar electric plant in Belarus will start its work already this summer. The complex will be built by the company Velcom and will be situated in the Brahin district on a territorry of the size of 80 football pitches. The power of the solar park is more than 22 megawatt. By contrast, this is enough to ensure the functioning of the entire night illumination in Minsk.
First inclusive theatre opens in Minsk
The first inclusive theatre has opened in Minsk. Children with special needs will share the stage with professional actors. The opening night of the first performance is going to take place in June 2016.

WWII memorial procession rehearsal due in Minsk on 2, 3 May

Belarus-Council of Europe relations discussed in France

International forum in Minsk commemorates WWII victory
