Svisloch waterfront’s reconstruction: 19 months of repairs
The reconstruction of the left bank of Svisloch has started in Minsk. Metal constructions are being installed to enclose the territory and paving flagstone is being dismantled.
The reconstruction plan includes 100 steps. It includes replacement of a parapet, installment of new stairs and rampant, expanding bike paths. Besides the ongoing repairs of the river’s waterfront, it is planned to tidy a water area.
During the reconstruction, the barge next to the Trinity Suburb will be taken away.

160 movies from 45 countries will take part in the 23rd International Film Festival Listapad that will open in Minsk November 4. Belarusians mostly satisfied with administration bodies
Some 74% of Belarusians respond to the work of state administration bodies positively. This is evidenced by an opinion poll.
According to the survey, 36% of respondents rated the administration bodies' work as "positive." The answer "rather positive" scored 38%. There are 7.5% of those who dislike the way administration bodies work, while there were 13% of those who think "rather negative". 5.5% of respondents did not make a decision.
In 2013, the state apparatus was optimized in Belarus, which resulted in a 25% reduction in the number of workers.
Car numbers double in Belarus in last 15 years

Animayovka Festival of Animation Films to open in Mogilev on October 28

The Belarusian national flag is going to space. The National symbol will be delivered to orbit by Belarusian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky.
The solemn ceremony of handover of the flag took place at the Russian embassy in Belarus on October 22. The start of the spaceship is planned for November 17, 2016 from Baikonur Cosmodrome.
This space mission is the second for Oleg Novitsky.

Belarus introduces age labeling of games, movies, music
From July 1, 2017 it will be forbidden to sell information products without age labeling in Belarus.
The corresponding resolution was adopted by the Council of Ministers on October 17. The resolution reads that information products are media products, publications, audiovisual works, phonograms, and games, including computer software.

Conference of Belarusian Red Cross Society takes place on October 14 in Minsk

New projects of the Belarusian Red Cross Society were discussed on October 14. The development strategy and the results of the last five years were the issues raised in Minsk. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Belarus is a reliable partner when it comes to solving humanitarian issues.
History of Red Church of Minsk
The idea to build a new Catholic church in Minsk appeared at the end of the 19th century. By that time, only two similar architectural monuments were preserved. These monuments are the Minsk Holy Spirit Cathedral and the Church of Holy Trinity. However, the idea wasn’t supported by the authorities.
Pinsk border guards get equipment worth over 2.5 million euro
ATVs, swamp buggies, boats and motor boats worth more than 2.5 million euros were given to Pinsk border guards in Belarus. The new items will be used for the protection of Belarus' borders.
The machinery and equipment was given to Belarusian border guards in the framework of the international project, which is funded by the European Union. Thanks to its implementation, infrastructure on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border area has already been modernized.
Belarus celebrating Mother's Day October 14
Belarus is celebrating Mother's Day. This holiday has a more than 20 years of history in Belarus and has its own traditions. Usually on this day, Belarusians congratulate their mothers and do not skimp on good words and deeds in honor of those who gives life.
Belarus is one of the few countries of the former Soviet Union where the Order of Mother is presented. It is given to moms who gave birth to and raised five or more children. There are about 8,000 of such women in Belarus.
Mir Castle gets unique Radziwills family album
A unique family album of the Radziwills has appeared in Mir Castle. A collection of the well-known Belarusian family now adorns the portrait hall. For the first time, Belarusians saw these paintings in May 2014 at an exhibition.
Over the past 17 months, the museum management has been negotiating with the owner of the collection Prince Constantin Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst to buy the collection.
The Austrian citizen, an engineer by profession, had inherited a palace in Bavaria and an exclusive gallery of the Radziwill family.
EU helps bolster Belarus' Brest region border
New machinery and equipment will be handed to the Brest region in order to protect the border.
The ceremony will take place in Pinsk on October 13.
There will be organized an exhibition of off-road vehicles, swamp buggies, high-speed motor boats and signaling complexes. The capabilities of machinery will be demonstrated on water and land. Patrol boats will inspect the waters of the river Pina.
Prince Michael of Kent visits memorial complex Khatyn
Prince Michael of Kent continues his visit to Belarus. On October 12 the relative of the royal dynasty visited the memorial complex "Khatyn" near Minsk.
On behalf of the British royal family he laid a wreath to the Eternal Flame in memory of hundreds of Belarusian villages destroyed by the Nazis during World War II. Michael of Kent was accompanied by honor guard.
The Prince has an extensive program of the visit and a lot of meetings. This is the visit to the National Art Museum and the High-Tech Park and an interview with Belarusian mass media.

In the village of Vialikija Radvaničy, schoolchildren make embroideries on... wood.
The central theme of the patterns is Belarusian ornament. Everything is made of wood without any fabric. Among wooden items are spoons, plates, boxes, and even clocks. This craft was once considered the pinnacle of needlework. Craftsmen handed down secrets of their skills from generation to generation.
Alexander Lukashenko promises to improve staffing in social services
The staffing situation in the social sphere should be improved, said President of Belarus on 11 September meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Kochanova.
In general, the stability of the social sphere in Belarus has been ensured, with timely payment of salaries, pensions and benefits. However, problematic questions remain and they need to be addressed.

Hearing diagnosis in infants: New technologies in Belarus' maternity hospitals
Belarussian maternity hospitals have successfully implemented a technology allowing checking newborns' hearing. This diagnosis can be made on the third-fifth day of life. Thus one can early find out pathology in children.
About 500 kids are born in this maternity hospital monthly. All of them undergo audiological screening.
Pathology is detected in only one percent of kids, but this is more valuable than gold for the parents. Most often, hearing loss requires instant intervention.

Belarus’ President expresses condolences over death of Lyudmila Ivanova
On October 7, famous film and stage actress Lyudmila Ivanova passed away.
She stole away hearts of the audience playing the part of Shurochka in the famous Soviet movie Office Romance. Afterwards, she remained people’s favorite actress. Besides her works in theatre and cinema, she was known as a poetess and author of numerous musical pieces.
Ivanova died at the age of 84.

Tourist from Saratov crosses Belarus on foot in acknowledgement of Belarus’ support of Russian Paralympic athletes
A tourist has been walking across Belarus for two weeks already.
Vladimir Ponomarev, a tourist from Saratov, started his journey in Brest. The man decided to cross the country from West to East on foot as expression of gratitude to the Belarusian team that carried the Russian flag at the Paralympics in Rio supporting disqualified Russian athletes.
Now the Russian and Belarusian flags are decorating the trolley of Vladimir Ponomarev. He also has a poster. This poster was seen by tens of thousands Belarusians.
