Two Belarusian universities got into top 100 - the Belarusian State University (BSU), 36th, and the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) 72nd place.  The authors of the ranking considered more than 500 universities, with 308 of them having passed the audit and 150 best making their way into the final rating.

First UNRRA mission memorial plaque opens in Belarus The memory of the first humanitarian mission of the United Nations created during World War II was immortalized in Minsk. A memorial plaque was opened at a ceremony in the Loshitsky Park on October 19. It is installed on the facade of the house-museum which once housed the office of the UNRRA. This abbreviation is not known widely in Belarus. The mission worked in Minsk a little more than a year. But it is this very mission that helped deliver cargoes from Australia, Britain, Canada, USA and France after WWII.

Eight Belarusian citizens evacuated from Syria Eight Belarusian citizens have been evacuated from Syria. The people came to Moscow on 17 October. These are Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians and Syrians - all in all 56 people. All of them wanted to leave the Syrian Arab Republic in connection with the intensification of the fighting on its territory.  The Il-76 of the Russian Emergencies Ministry delivered to the conflict zone humanitarian aid and took on passengers on the way back from Latakia.

Belarusian schoolgirl wins creative competition in USA A student of Volozhin's gymnasium No1 Diana Shargorodskaya became the winner of an international competition of creative projects that took place in the United States. Belarus submitted 400 applications, but only 40 made it into the finals. The topic of the competition was "Volunteering. Leadership. Agroecotourism." Winners could travel to the USA and live there during one month. Over this time they improved their foreign language and put their ideas on paper.

Belarus-banded stork seen around Sharm El Sheikh A Belarusian bird flew to Egypt. A stork banded in Belarus was seen around Sharm el-Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula. A flock of 10,000 banded birds was photographed by a local ornithologist. There was only one stork with a Belarusian band in that flock.  Belarusian storks often spend a break in these areas in early September when flying towards the south. After that break, Belarusian storks fly further south and spend winter in Saharan Africa, in Chad or Sudan. They even fly as far as South Africa.
