87% of Belarusian kids born in officially registered families in 2015 An increasing number of Belarusian families now give birth to a second and third children. In comparison with 2010, the number of second children in families has grown and reached 36.1%. For third and subsequent babies the figure is nearly 16.8%. By the way, it is namely registered couples that give birth to the majority of young Belarusians. Officially registered couples gave birth to 87% of Belarusian kids in 2015.

Works by People’s Artist Alexander Kishchenko can be seen in all parts of the city. For instance, the mosaic picture “Partisans” has been decorating the side wall of the hotel Tourist (Turist) for more than ten years now. The canvas was created in 1973. It’s the first large-scale piece of art presented by Alexander Kishchenko to the Belarus capital. The area of the mosaic is 245 square meters and it took a couple of years to lay it out.

History of Kalinina Square in Minsk The name of Mikhail Kalinin (a soviet politician and party official, 1875-1946) wandered around Minsk for a long time; a part of Niamiha was named after him until the beginning of the 1950’s, but in the 1960’s it went over to a street and a square in the eastern part of the city. Kalinina Square is the fifth square in Nezavisimosti Avenue. The design of the square was developed in 1953. And the first contours of the square started to show up a few years after. Belarus-Council of Europe relations discussed in France On April 28 in Strasbourg, the Council of Europe headquarters hosted a meeting dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. The participants talked about the consequences of the largest man-made disaster and the role of our country in their minimization. International forum in Minsk commemorates WWII victory These days, Minsk has become a venue for a large-scale international forum. Representatives of the CIS, the Baltic and Georgia - all in all about 200 participants - are taking part in it.   It is not a coincidence that Minsk was chosen as a venue. The Belarusian capital bears the title of the Hero City. All in all, only 12 cities of the former Soviet Union bear it. In addition, Belarus lost every third citizen in that terrible war.

It was named Frunzensky after the legendary revolutionist, statesman and military leader Mikhail Frunze.
