Belarusian scientists breed new earthworm species
There are 15 species of earthworms in Belarus. One of this species was bred by Belarusian scientists. These invertebrates play an important role in destruction of organic matters in soil and its enrichment with core plant food compounds. Besides, it is possible to derive most valuable organic manure called vermicompost thanks to the worms.
Belarusian scientists bred the new earthworm species for a year and a half. For this purpose, they had to bring ringed worms from America, Europe, and Russia. Eventually, they managed to attain the necessary result.

The warmest Spring for Belarusians was in 1921. The average temperature of air warmed up to 10 degrees above zero. But in 1942 spring was unusually cold. The average temperature then didn’t go up any more than two degrees above zero.
Police Museum opens in Vitebsk
Vitebsk Museum of Militia was opened on 28 February, 2017. There are three halls, where you can follow the entire history of Vitebsk militia, from the governorate times of the city to the present day. Apart from photographs, documents and awards, a reconstructed cabinet of district militia chief of the BSSR and the working place of a controller of the 1970’s can be seen in the museum.
You can even take photos with weapons and mannequins in militiaman uniform. You can touch and try on most of the showpieces.
Personnel reduction plans of Belarus Ministry of Internal Affairs
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus is planning staff reductions, which will touch upon all the subdivisions of the authority. This was stated by Interior Minister of the Republic of Belarus Igor Shunevich.
According to his words, in some departments as the Department of Migration and Citizenship, civil citizens can substitute people in uniform. And the function of the traffic police to register transport can be handed over to an outside agency.
New gambling rules set up in Belarus

The principal researcher of the Belarusian Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry Alexander Andrianov announced that with the help of a computer, Belarusian scientists modeled chemical compounds which will be promising in the development of the HIV drug. The project manager mentioned that the compounds passed a computer pretest. The United Institute of Informatics Problems of Belarus used supercomputers during the test. Today more than 20 different medicines are used to cure HIV. However, the virus mutates and the drugs become less effective.
Prince Maciej Radziwill exhibits personal collection of family values in Minsk

Imagine: the Belarusian language has three alphabets at once: Cyrillic, Latin and Arabic. The first appeared at the same time as the Old Belarusian language and remains the most popular alphabet now. The Arabic one appeared in the 16th century, when Tatars left their own letters after their invasion of the Belarusian land. The Latin alphabet was used in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

Former CTV director general Grigory Novikov passes away aged 70
Journalist Grigory Novikov, who stood at the origins of the CTV channel, passed away on February 16. He was photographer, reporter, editor in chief, TV presenter and writer of television programs.
For several years Novikov remained in the top three TASS correspondents.
He was an uncompromising and sometimes tough reporter. He had the same high requirements to young journalists, who studied under his guidance.
Grigory Novikov died aged 70.

Belarusian makes miniature organ from paper: video
Belarusian master Alexey Zholner has made a miniature organ from paper. He has even managed to play the well-known song "Under the sky of Paris."
The author himself coined the design of the musical instrument.
Alexey used cardboard and paper as primary materials. In his comment to the video the master said that in order to create the organ he had to not least regulate the proportions but also carefully pick paper.
The invention was actually an accident. Originally Alexey wanted to build a music box.

The 1000th tunnel ring was built in the early hours of February 13th at the place of the future Vokzalnaya Station, one of the 3rd line stations of the Minsk subway.
Construction workers have built 1,400 meters of an underground railroad line using the power-operated tunnel-boring complex Alesya. As little as 20 metres remain to the future station near Druzhnaya Street.
24th Minsk International Book Fair results
The 24th International Book Fair was held in Minsk last week. Among the participants were such countries as Russia, Germany, China, Iran, the United States, etc. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was the Guest of Honor this year. The Irish came to us in kilts and with bagpipes, by the way. All the guests could copy Francysk Skaryna (a Belarusian famous as one of the first book publishers in Eastern Europe) and print the page from the legendary Bible using the ancient method as it was done 500 years ago.

Belarusian MPs propose to exempt more people from social dependency tax

Belarusian Book Printing Congress to take place in Minsk in autumn 2017

New Education Code draft submitted for public discussion in Belarus
An Education Code draft was submitted for public discussion. Deputies, senators, and rectors of the leading universities of Belarus have already joined it.

NAVI band to perform in semifinal 2 at Eurovision Song Contest 2017
The official representative of Belarus at the international song contest Eurovision 2017 in Kiev NAVI band will perform in the second part of the second semi-final on May 11.

Monuments of wooden Minsk
A monument of a small manor building towers stands in Bogushevich Square.
These wooden buildings were a part of the suburb of Grushevka at the beginning of the 20th century. Streets which associated with the Libau-Romny railway were located here. From 1907 to 1918, the wooden houses and sidewalks were built on this area.
Workers, employees of the railway and a car-repair plant lived here. Nevertheless, noblemen and peasants from the suburb of Minsk owned several houses too.
Belarusian student develops method to determine authenticity of art works
The postgraduate of the Yanka Kupala University of Grodno, Nikolai Kuryan, devised a method that allows determining the authenticity of a picture as well as the time of its creation with a high accuracy.
The development has already been tested in the museums of Grodno and Gomel. Moreover, Nikolai Kuryan was awarded a presidential scholarship.
Belarusian National History Museum presents restored chasuble
The National History Museum has presented the restored chasuble of the beginning of the 19th century. The finding is unique, because one part of the Catholic priest's vestment is sewn from several fragments of the world famous Slutsk belts, Belarus' hallmark.
The restoration of the valuable exhibit has been made possible through a presidential grant. It took experts over a year to restore the silk fabrics.
The historical discovery came to the museum in 2008. The original owner of the Catholic priest vestments is unknown.
BSU ready to provide educational services to Pakistani students
Belarusian universities will train students from Pakistan. The necessary documents are being developed.
