4% of voters came to polling stations during first day of early voting in Belarus Almost 4% of voters came to polling stations on the first day of early voting. About 7 million of Belarusians should make their choice in the parliamentary elections. The residents of the Vitebsk region are the most active voter for now. More than 4% of voters came to the polling stations in Minsk and the Mogilev region. Belarusians that are currently abroad also actively participate in the elections. Among the ones enlisted in the voters’ list, more than 5% already made their choice. There are 47 polling stations outside Belarus.

Elections to upper chamber of Belarus parliament start August 25 The election of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly began in Belarus on August 25. The election to the upper chamber of the parliament lasts to 13 September inclusive. This date was not chosen accidentally. Elections must complete no later than 35 days before the end of powers of the Council of the Republic of the current convocation.  The Central Election Commission plans to register the elected senators by 30 September.

Alexander Lukashenko extends condolences to Turkey president following Gaziantep attack Turkey is holding funeral ceremonies related to massive loss of life in the recent terrorist attack at a wedding. In the evening, on August 20, the city of Gaziantep was shaken by an explosion: a teen of 12-14 years old exploded a suicide bomber's belt stuffed with TNT during a ceremony. The total number of victims to date has reached 54 people. The wedding was underway in the Turkish region populated by the Kurds. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities tend to suggest that the crime was committed by supporters of the Islamic State.

In Minsk, there are 131 potential candidates. This is the largest number of nominees across the country.
