Summer School of Journalism opens June 9 in Minsk as part of International Media Forum The Summer School of Journalism opened in Minsk June 9. This is one of the projects of the 10th International Media Forum , which is being held in Belarus. The creativity school will traditionally be headquartered at the Institute of Journalism of Belarusian State University.  An open dialogue "Youth and Media" will be held here. There will also be workshops with the participation of experts, leading Belarusian and foreign journalists.

20 states partaking in 10th International Media Forum in Minsk "Partnership for the Future: heritage of the Great Victory." Minsk is hosting the 10th International Media Forum. This is the largest and unique project of its kind in the CIS. Over the years, it has become an international platform for the discussion of topical issues on the international agenda.  The media forum is designed to give new impetus to the establishment of international projects, combining the creative and intellectual efforts of the journalistic community.

CTV Channel grabs 5 awards at Belarus' nationwide TV contest
CTV Channel grabs 5 awards at Belarus' nationwide TV contest The best presenters, reporters, cameramen, directors and TV projects of Belarus got their deserved bronze statuettes. The CTV Channel scooped five of them.  The project "Children draw hockey" won in the category "Social advertising". Igor Pozniak was voted the best presenter of the information and analytical news program. After the show, Mr Pozniak told the CTV that he was impressed by the atmosphere of the award ceremony. “This is always like the first time,” he added. All in all, awards were given in 25 categories.

CTV channel taking part in Belarus' national TV contest Televershina 2015 Masters of Belarusian television industry and the audience are looking forward to a high-profile event - the TV contest Televershina (TV Height). On May 21, the winners will be announced. As many as 25 nominations will be contested. The authoritative jury includes well-known directors, screenwriters, actors and journalists. One of the main nominations is "TV Project of the Year." For the first time in 2015, taking part in the competition are students, who will also receive an adequate assessment

The improvement of the quality of national content is one of the most important tasks of modern media, said Belarus' Minister of Information Lilia Ananich.

International exhibition Mass Media in Belarus kicks off in Minsk May 5 The largest media forum of Belarus started in Minsk on May 5. The leitmotif for the 19th exhibition "Mass Media in Belarus" is the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. The Belarus President sent greetings to participants and guests of the forum. Alexander Lukashenko said that the Belarusian media are developing in line with global trends, using all the latest communications technologies.

Topical issues of FM broadcasting in Belarus discussed in Minsk The future of FM broadcasting in Belarus was discussed in Minsk on March 23. Taking part in the conversation were heads of regional radio stations, as well as representatives of relevant ministries. After usual radio receivers disappeared from kitchens it appeared to be hard to "book" FM frequency since most of them are already occupied. It has been proposed to solve the problem by a transition to VHF radio or merging several small stations into one.

Belarus Information Minister hails legal framework allowing effective control over information spread by media Filling Belarusian media, including regional, with quality content, transition to a digital format and optimization of state publishing houses. Such tasks have been set by the Belarus Ministry of Information in 2015. On February 5, Minsk hosted a session of the board of the Information Ministry, which brought together representatives of major media outlets, TV channels, agencies and publishing houses.

Lilia Ananich: International Book Fair in Minsk will gather a record number of participants The International Book Fair in Minsk will gather a record number of participants. This was announced on February 3 by Information Minister Lilia Ananich. It is expected that the fair will attract Belarusian writers and publishers from 28 countries. Russia will be the major exhibitor. During the exhibition days, famous Russian writers will hold master classes.

Mass media law toughened in Belarus The law "On Amendments and Additions to the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Mass Media” came into force on January 1, 2015. The Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of the Belarus parliament, approved the amendments to the Law on Mass Media on December 18.  In particular, these amendments provide that the "foreign" share in the charter capital or shares of media companies should not exceed 20%. Also, the law provides for cases in which access to mass media on the Internet may be restricted.

New rules for online media in Belarus Online media in Belarus will work according to new rules. On December 18, the Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament, approved amendments to the law on mass media. From now on, information on websites will be treated as information in ordinary media (printed media or TV). This means that websites will be fully responsible for data they post. The document also spells out information that is prohibited from being spread. For example, propaganda of war or extremist activities.

Belarus changes tax, criminal codes, law on mass media The draft law on the national budget for 2015 has been adopted by Belarusian MPs in the second reading.  Traditionally, the main financial document of the country retains social orientation. It aims to reduce external debt and increase the salaries of state employees.  In 2015, the country expects to earn more than Br156 trillion.
