History of Minsk cinemas
Belarusians started watching movies on a big screen at the end of the XIX century. The first cinema was opened in 1900 in Minsk. It was founded by entrepreneur Rihard Shtremer in Zakharyevskaya Street (today there is a fast food restaurant at the corner of Nezavisimosti Avenue and Lenin Street).

The city government warned cinemas for many times. However, there was a fire in the cinema in 1909 and there were even 10 victims. Firefighters were on duty near all Minsk cinemas after this incident.

Maxim Ryzhenkov: Belarusians' interest in books persits
Minsk is hosting the 24th International Book Fair February 8. The main theme of this forum is the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian printed word.
Among other memorable dates are anniversaries of Belarus' classic writers Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas. All in all, in 2016 alone, about 10,000 different books were released in Belarus, and the total circulation exceeded 23 million copies.
President provides grant for Borisov Central Library
The Borisov Central Regional Library has received a grant from the Belarus President.
This year, financial assistance is provided to nearly 100 organizations of science, education, health and culture.
The funds provided are intended to help support talents and create favorable conditions for the development of public health, scientific, educational and cultural potential of the country.
Ten special prizes of the President of Belarus
Ten special prizes of the Belarus President were awarded to people of culture and art, men of science, educators, teams of authors and cultural institutions.

Belarus’ high-tech park expanding
Belarusian “Silicon Valley” will come to Minsk centre. A part of inefficiently used buildings near Yakuba Kolasa Square will pass into management of Belarusian high-tech park. This decision was made at a meeting held by Alexander Lukashenko on November 15.
Almost 20 buildings of Minsk Computer Science Association have stood unused and empty for a long time. At the beginning of 2014, Alexander Lukashenko ordered to dispose of them, for example by selling to an investor.
Mogilev, Novopolotsk and Lida named Culture Cities of Belarus in 2016

First Book of Kings returns to Belarus from UK
The legacy of Francysk Skaryna has returned from UK to Belarus. This is a book called "The First Book of Kings", published by the first Belarusian printer Francysk Skaryna in Prague in 1518. This copy is only a part of the original edition, the fragment.
For three years has the National Library of Belarus conducted negotiations with the library of Cambridge, where the original was kept. The book has finally been transferred to Belarus free of charge.
Belarus to choose Man of the Year, create unique Culture Code
The Culture Year with new titles. Belarus will choose the Man of the Year, and the best cultural city. The idea of a new competition has been announced by the Ministry of Culture.
The selection of applicants for the honorary titles will begin shortly. The names of the laureates will be announced in 2016.
