Belarusian weightlifters disqualified from 2017 World Championship for doping violations The International Weightlifting Federation has disqualified Belarusian weightlifters for one year for doping violations. As a result Belarusian sportsmen won’t be participating in the World Championship in Anaheim from November 28 till December 5. Besides Belarusian sportsmen, federations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, China, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine were disqualified.

Weightlifter Darya Naumava wins silver at World Universiade The hammer thrower Pavel Boreisha and weightlifter Daria Naumova on August 24 brought Belarus silver medals at the Summer Universiade in Taipei. Boreisha sent the hammer to 77 meters 98 centimeters in the best attempt. This was exactly three meters further than the bronze medalist from Moldova, Sergei Margiev. However, Pole Paweł Fajdek was second to none. Boreisha lost to Fajdek more than one meter.

Belarus weightlifter takes silver at 2017 IWF Junior World Championship in Tokyo Another medal for team Belarus at 2017 IWF Junior World Championship. This time Evgeny Tikhontsov won silver in the 94kg category. Gold went to Farkhodbek Sobirov From Uzbekistan. Belarusian sportsmen are yet to perform in heavyweight and super heavyweight categories.

Belarusian Anastasia Mikhalenko wins bronze at European Weightlifting Championship Anastasia Mikhalenko became the bronze medalist of the European Weightlifting Championship which is taking place in Croatia's Split. The Belarusian showed the third best result in the snatch and the clean and jerk, in the weight category up to 69 kilograms. In the snatch, Mikhalenko lifted 95 kg and in the clean and jerk 130kg. Russian Anastasia Romanova won the event. Silver went to Ukrainian Maria Khlyan.

IOC deprives two Belarusian weightlifters of 2008 Olympic medals The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has stripped Belarusian weightlifters Andrei Rybakov and Anastasia Novikova of medals of the 2008 Summer Olympics for the use of banned drugs. The relevant decision was published on the official website of the IOC. In 2008, Andrei Rybakov won the silver award in the category up to 85 kg. Anastasia Novikova scooped bronze medal in the category of up to 53 kg.

Belarusians Rybakov and Novikova deprived of 2008 Olympic medals Belarus now has two Beijing medals fewer. After eight years the medal collection of the Belarusian team at the Beijing Olympics was reduced in size. According to the press service of the International Weightlifting Federation, doping tests of three Belarusian athletes tested positive. As a result, Andrei Rybakov and Anastasia Novikova will be forced to return their silver and bronze medals of the Games. Another athlete involved in this unpleasant story - Irina Kulesha - took fourth place at the Games in Beijing. The athletes are suspended from international competitions.

Daria Naumava snatches Belarus' first Rio Olympic medal
Daria Naumava wins Belarus' first Rio Olympics medal Weightlifter Daria Naumova has won the first medal for the Belarusian team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She won the medal in the 75kg class. At her first ever Olympics the Bobruisk native, who on August 26 turns 21, performed really brilliantly. In the snatch Naumova lifted 116 kg, and in the second exercise - clean and jerk - ventured to lift 142 kg and succeeded.

Belarus at Rio Olympics: August 10 summary Belarus is still without medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Belarusian Olympic team are still only dreaming of Brazilian podiums. On August 10, fans hoped for the success of the world cycling champion Vasil Kiriyenka and female weightlifters. But they all disappointed us. Vasil Kiriyenka, in the men's individual time trial, was not able to show the class. The current world champion already at the equator of the race distance was about one minute behind the first-placed athlete and further into the race, the gap was only increasing.

Alexander Hrynkevich-Sudnik wins at World Powerlifting Championships Belarusian Aliaksandr Grynkevich-Sudnik became a four-time world champion in classic powerlifting. The IPF RAW/Classic World Powerlifting Championships held US Killeen brought a gold medal to the athlete from Baranovichi, Aliaksandr Grynkevich-Sudnik. At the start of the global forum, Alexander beat everyone in the squat. In the third attempt in this event, he managed to cope with the weight of 257.5 kg.

Belarus' weightlifting Olympic medalist tests positive for meldonium Two-time Olympic medalist and two-time world champion in weightlifting Belarus' Andrei Rybakou has been suspended from competitions after testing positive for meldonium. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the official website of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). The IWF has not indicated when the sample was taken from the 34-year-old athlete and noted that comments may follow only after the investigation is completed.

Belarus may host 2019 Weightlifting World Championships Belarus is ready to host sporting events of the highest level.  To do this, the whole infrastructure has been created in our country, said Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko meeting with IWF President Tamas Ajan. Belarus has already hosted a competition in this sport. Now Belarus has been suggested to make a bid for hosting the World Weightlifting Championship, scheduled for 2019. There, licenses for the Olympic Games will be contested.

Vadim Streltsov - weightlifting world champion
November 23-29: Belarus sporting events review Vadim Streltsov is the world champion in weightlifting. The Belarusian won in the category of up to 94kg. In the first exercise, he lifted only 175kg and 6th intermediate place. However, in the clean and jerk, Streltsov narrowed the gap, but also stepped into first place. Its total amount is 407 kilogram. Belarusian trampoline jumpers brought  from a world championship in Denmark six awards. In the team competition, women took silver and men scooped bronze.

Belarus wins maximum number of Olympic licenses at IWF Houston World Weightlifting Championships 2015 Belarusian weightlifters have won the maximum number of Olympic licenses (10) at the IWF Houston World Weightlifting Championships 2015. Apart from cherished licenses Belarus' men were also second in the team classification, for the first time history. This is all to a large extent thanks to the brilliant performance of Vadim Streltsov. In the weight category up to 94 kilograms, the Belarusian won two gold: one small and one big. In total, the athlete lifted 405 kilograms.

Belarusians win 22 medals at U15&U17 European Weightlifting Championships Belarusian youth weightlifters returned to Belarus on August 9 bringing 22 medals from Sweden’s Landskrona, which hosted the U15&U17 European Weightlifting Championships. Belarusians set there 13 records. Only boys won gold, while girls’ highest place was second. One of the best weightlifters in Team Belarus was Konstantin Kurovsky. Konstantin Kurovsky, European weightlifting champion (youth):I accomplished what I wanted. I am pleased to set 9 European records.

Weightlifting in Belarus: Is it women’s sport?
Weightlifting: Is it women’s sport? What people in the street say:I think it is a sport for men. I would not let my child do this sport. It is a big responsibility of a woman: she should decide whether to be mother of a child or not. Let women do what they want. Ballet is not for everybody. She is not an Olympic winner. Neither is she a world champion. She is just Angelina – a candidate master of sports in weightlifting and she knows how to be gracious. Though she didn’t succeed as a model.
