Ukraine contact group to gather in Minsk June 23 Today Minsk will become a platform for another attempt to resolve the Ukrainian crisis: the meeting of the Tripartite Contact Group will take place in the Belarusian capital.  The talks will focus on the old problems but there will be some new delegates. Taking part in the meeting will be new representative of the OSCE Austrian diplomat Martin Sajdik.  He is characterized as a very experienced diplomat with a broad range of knowledge. He will replace retired Heidi Tagliavini.

A few weeks ago 14 citizens of Syria arrived in Belarus. Among them were eight children. Forced to leave their troubled homeland because of the threat of death, these people have found their new home in Belarus. The first stage of integration into a new society goes is quite successful: the Syrians waiting for the solution of their housing problem and looking for work.

The statement was posted on January 26 at the official website of the department. The Belarusian side expresses its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

Ukraine talks in Minsk format should continue, Poroshenko says Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko believes that it is possible to resolve the conflict situation in the south-east of the country only on the basis of the Minsk agreements. He stated this at a press conference. "The main thing is to turn a fragile truce in the east into a stable, secure and lasting peace on the basis of my peace plan and the Minsk arrangements. This can be done only on the basis of the Minsk protocol," he said.

Ukraine starts to implement Minsk agreements Ukraine has started to implement the Minsk agreements. At this moment, Ukraine and separatist forces are exchanging prisoners in the Donbas. It is not known how many people will return home.  However, during the last meeting of the contact group in Minsk, it was decided that by December 30, the exchange process will be fully completed.  In addition, it is expected that heavy military equipment will be moved back from the front line in the southeast of Ukraine to create a safe zone of 30 kilometers.

Mr Lukashenko met his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko.  The sides discussed a wide range of issues - from the economy to the situation in eastern Ukraine. Mr Poroshenko looks forward to the resumption of the so-called Minsk talks of the contact group to resolve the Ukraine crisis.
