Andrei Stas to captain Belarus at IIHF WM 2017
Andrei Stas will be captain of the Belarus national ice hockey team at the upcoming World Ice Hockey Championship.
Alexander Pavlovich and Vladimir Denisov have been chosen as his assistants. This is the choice of the Belarus coaching staff.
The IIHF WM 2017 in Germany and France will start on May 5th.
Belarusians are going to hold two more friendlies ahead of the championship. At the EuroChallenge, Belarus will meet Sweden twice.
Belarus begins preparations for IIHF WM 2017
The Belarus national ice hockey team have begun preparations for the May world championship. On March 29, the team gathered for a training camp in Minsk. Dave Lewis called up 31 players.
The lion's share are from Dinamo Minsk, but there are also representatives of national Extraliga, the Belarusian national ice hockey championship. Three goalies have been called up, including unofficial number one Mikhail Karnaukhov.
Belarus to face Canada, Finland, Czech Republic at 2017 IIHF WM
The ice hockey team of Belarus at the IIHF WM 2017 in France and Germany will play in preliminary Group B and is to take on Canada and Finland, the 2016 finalists.
The Belarusians will play the first phase of the tournament in Paris, with their first game to be on May 5 against Finland, vice-champions of the world. Then Belarusians will face the Czech Republic (May 6), Canada (May 8), Switzerland (10 May), France (12 May), Slovenia (May 13) and Norway (16 May).
