Belarus defeats Slovenia in a friendly match

The national team of Belarus beat the Slovenian team 2:0 in the second friendly match of the new season in Ljubljana.

Opponents approached this meeting with different moods: the Belarusians beat Azerbaijan 1:0 in Baku last Friday, while the Slovenes lost in Austria 0:3. It is clear that after such embarrassment the Slovenes on their home field really wanted to please the fans with a good game.

This did not happen, although the hosts immediately went into attacks and created some very dangerous chances near the goal of Belarus' goalie Andrey Harbunow. However, the experienced goalkeeper of the Belarusians, who returned to the main team of the country after a long break, was on top.

In the 36th minute in one of the rare counter-attacks Maksim Skavysh used his chance to open the scoring after an Igor Shitov cross from the right.

After the break, the game went on the same scenario - the Slovenians possessed the ball more, but the Belarusians were looking for their chances in counters.

One of them ended with the second goal - a few seconds before the end of the added time, Anton Saroka found himself one on one with Vid Belec and beat him for the final score 2:0.

Coach Igor Kriushenko's Belarus will play their next friendly matches in the beginning of summer: on June 6 they take on Hungary, and on June 9 they have another friendly against Finland. The Finns defeated Malta with a score of 5:0, and the Hungarians lost to Scotland 0:1. Future rivals of the national team of Belarus in the group stage of the League of Nations also held friendly meetings: Moldova lost to Côte d'Ivoire 1:2, Luxemburg suffered a major defeat from Austria 0:4.
