Azarenka defeats Plíšková to enter Miami Open semifinal

Victoria Azarenka defeated Czech Karolína Plíšková in the Miami Open quarterfinal.

In a two-set match of the fifth round the Belarusian (186) beat the Czech (6) 7:5, 6:3. The match lasted 1 hour and 35 minutes.

"It's great. Even before the match, I said that it would be a great chance to evaluate my level of play. I think the result pleased me and inspired me to work further," the WTA website quotes Azarenka as saying. "I always count on winning. That's why I'm playing. I do not participate in the tournament to just play. But I always focus on every single match."

To break into the semifinals, Victoria won five matches. In the first round, Azarenka beat the US tennis player CiCi Bellis (44). In the second round, Azarenka breezed past Madison Keys (15), who did not finish the match through a leg injury. In the third round, Latvia's Anastasia Sevastova (17) did not manage to hold back the onslaught of the Belarusian. In the fourth round Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska was defeated.

In the semifinal Victoria Azarenka will take on Sloane Stephens (12), to whom the Belarusian athlete lost on March 12 at Indian Wells.
