Belarusian delegation visiting Georgia: Cooperation memorandum until 2020 signed

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko's visit to Georgia will coincide with the Days of Minsk in Tbilisi. A big Belarusian delegation is already there. Moreover, a number of important meetings has already been held.

The first meeting day was really warm and friendly. The mayors of Minsk and Tbilisi agreed to cooperate until 2020. A relevant memorandum was signed.

There are a lot of spheres for the development of the dialogue. Georgia is Belarus' promising partner. An impulse to the development of bilateral relations was the official visit of the Belarusian President to Georgia in April 2015. By the way, it was the first in modern history. Then the parties signed 15 agreements and a joint statement on the results of the talks at the highest level. They also agreed to increase bilateral trade up to $200 million and develop cooperation.

No sooner said than done. Instead of 64 million in 2015, the countries' trade amounted to almost twice as much in 2017. The two friendly cities, Minsk and Tbilisi, also enjoy good trade and economic figures. At the same time, there is still space to grow.

Andrei Shorets, chairman of Minsk City Executive Committee (Minsk Mayor):
Today the delegation of Minsk in Tbilisi is very versatile. The directions are broad, starting from transport, we are considering joint assembly of electric buses, healthcare issues, education, cooperation of technology parks, sports sphere and much more.

By the way, Tbilisi has already tasted Belarusian products. In Georgia, there are 9 stores with Belarusian foodstuff. Especially appreciated is Belarusian oil, sour cream and sausages. The network may be expanded up to 25 stores.

Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi:
We have great opportunities to develop relations between our cities, and we will do our best to do so. Culture, sport, tourism... By the way, every year the number of guests from your country is growing.

Anastasia Ivannikova, CTV:
This is the result of cooperation. Truly, an agreement in action. Belarus and Georgia intend to assemble these elevators together. According to preliminary calculations, about 15,000 old elevators need to be replaced in Georgia.

Contacts are being invigorated. This is confirmed by one more fact. In 2007, the Embassy of Georgia in Belarus was opened, and the Belarusian Embassy in Tbilisi has been functioning since August 2017.The contractual and legal framework for the bilateral relations already comprises 47 documents. The countries intend to develop cooperation in the field of tourism, and even in agriculture. And this is another important agreement of today. The delivery of a new batch of tractors and combine harvesters to Georgia is being discussed.

Dmitry Kumsishvili, First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia:
Today we have already talked about harvesters. Georgia needs new ones. Our Ministry of Agriculture with its colleagues and the Ministry of Industry of Belarus will talk in detail about the possibility of purchasing them.

I think that this matter is very important and it will of course create new jobs.

On March 22 Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will arrive in Georgia. The negotiation program is rich. The President will stay there two days. He will meet with his Georgian counterpart, the prime minister of the country. The Days of Minsk and the Georgian-Belarusian business forum will coincide with the official visit of the Belarusian head of state to Tbilisi. Therefore, it will be possible to talk about specific results and agreements very soon.
