Belarus currently on 9th position in Paralympic medal table

Belarusian Paralympic athletes have won 4 medals on the first day of the Games. As many as two silver and two bronze medals in biathlon.

Belarus’ Dzmitry Loban took silver in the 7.5 kilometer biathlon sprint in the LW12. What is more, Yury Holub won the second silver for team Belarus in the B3 biathlon sprint.

Women’s biathlon was no less spectacular. Lidziya Hrafeyeva won bronze in the 6 kilometer biathlon race of the LW12 category. Sviatlana Sakhanenka came third in the B2 category.

Oleg Shepel, chairman of the Paralympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus:
We expected that Dzmitry Loban and Lidzia Hrafeyeva are going to win medals. They prepared for it. But the fact that Yury Holub won silver-he is not a stable shooter. And we are very happy. It is necessary to praise the servicemen, who guessed the right wax for the skis, there were no complaints. Good work.

As for Dzmitry Loban, he could take gold if he was successful at the first shooting range. The category he is competing in is one of the most difficult. The majority of the athletes in this category have no legs, but they have a great strive to win.

At the last Paralympics in Sochi Belarusian athletes won three bronze medals, but that previous result has already been exceeded. Now they have a task to win at least five medals. After the first day of the Games, Belarusian athletes are on the ninth position in the medal table. There are still many starts ahead and the medal hopes are for skiing races.
