Algeria notes high economic potential of relations with Belarus

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Algeria on February 20.

Belarus is ready to work in Algeria using custom technologies in agriculture and industry.

Minsk wants to not only supply products, but also create production facilities in Algeria.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
Finally we can welcome you in Minsk. We hope your visit will give a serious impetus to the development of our relations and at least restore the level of relations that we once had between our countries. It was estimated at more than $200 million annually.

All that Belarus produces could be in demand in Algeria. Your country imports a huge amount of dairy products. Trying to diversify our exports, we are looking for partners all over the world, including in the People's Republic of China, Venezuela and even further. Agree that Algeria looks very attractive from the point of view of logistics.

I want to assure you that we, if we have your assistance, are ready to work using our technologies in both industry and agriculture. We would like not just to supply agricultural products to your country, the same dairy products, but also create some joint ventures together with you in the territory of Algeria.

Algeria is a giant country, and our technology, capabilities of Belarus' construction companies and other enterprises will be up Algeria's alley.

As for military and technical cooperation, I have no doubt that we will be able to restore its appropriate level, too.

Abdelkader Messahel, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Algerian People's Democratic Republic:
You correctly noted that our economic relations are much lower than those that we could have. And the purpose of my visit today is to establish relations between our countries and make them more intensive.

Earlier, an agreement was signed between the states on the establishment of a joint committee for the development of cooperation. We will probably need some legal instrument that will set the framework for our dialogue. This agreement will allow establishing all kinds of economic interaction between countries.
