Where to celebrate Maslenitsa 2018 in Minsk?

On Maslenitsa you can go with your friends to eat pancakes and to visit the Mir Castle Complex.

This year Maslenitsa is a long hoped-for holiday which will be celebrated in Belarus on February 18.

Maslenitsa is a good reason to meet and talk with friends and relatives.

Pancake week starts already on February 12!

A lot of cafes will offer pancakes during Maslenitsa. Usually pancakes in Belarus are made of only four ingredients: milk, flour, butter and eggs. Dough is always fresh and no frozen products are used.

The variety of pancake fillings is unbelievable. Among the novelties in Belarus is ‘Beef-pancake’ which consists of a yummy pork chop, melted Cheddar, onions, dill pickles and a special sauce. The prices for pancakes usually start from about $1.

During Maslenitsa it’s also usual to eat potato pancakes, which are called draniki, lunches and different beverages varying from beer to milkshakes and coffee cocktails.

Pancake week in Mir Castle Complex and tour for two

A week before the Great Fast is called a Maslenitsa week. You can spend this week in a beautiful place surrounded by great walls of Mir Castle Complex. From 11 to 17 February, various entertainments will be organized there.

The festival will start with a theatrical performance at midday on February 11. The visitors will be welcomed with tasty pancakes.

The folk art amateur association ‘Zakritye litsa’, the folk music association ‘Tsyrinskye muzyki’, the folk music association ‘Zabava’ and the association ‘Garadnitsa’ will perform there.

There will be a lot of other entertainments such as ‘Folk crafts workshop’, ‘Winter fishing’, ‘Hammer a nail’ and ‘Cooking pancakes’.

The festival will finish on February 17. On this day a big folk project will take place from noon till 3 p.m. Surely people will gather for a bonfire and to ‘strip Lady Maslenitsa of her finery’.

On February 14, Mir Castle Museum will offer a thematic excursion ‘Cupid’s intrigues’ which has some elements of a quest.

You can book this excursion from Wednesday till Saturday by calling to 8 (015) 962-32-32, 8 (015) 962-82-90 in advance. The excursion for two tells about love affairs of the castle’s inhabitants.

There’s one more offer which is a sightseeing tour around the castle. You may also stay at ‘Mir Castle’ hotel.

Maslenitsa in three parks and in a palace

On February 17, from 12:30 a.m. till 5 p.m. there will be entertainment organized in Čaliuskincaŭ Park and in Park of 900th Anniversary of Minsk.

Near Chizhovka Arena there will be a lot of sports spots and a 3-meter Lady Maslenitsa.

On February 18, from 12:30 a.m. till 4 p.m.  (Belarus time) you can visit Gorky Park for some Maslenitsa entertainment. Each park will offer a vast array of activities.

On February 18, from 12 a.m. till 4 p.m. near Minsk State Palace of Children and Youth, there will be a Maslenitsa celebration for children. There will be various creative and sports spots for children and teenagers, concerts organized by the State Palace of Children and Youth. There is no entrance fee.

If you want to say goodbye to winter in a an old-fashioned way, then it will be possible on February 17, from 12 a.m. till 4 p.m. in The Belarusian State Museum of Rural Architecture and Life located not far away from Minsk Ring Road.

There will be a grand festival for children and adults, an exhibition of the tools that were used by our great-great-grandmothers, a workshop on making amulets and so on.

Ticket prices range from 6.5 to 13 Belarusian rubles; entrance for preschoolers is free.
