Minchanka into 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup quarterfinal for first time

The volleyball club Minchanka on February 7 hosted the return match of the last 16 of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup against the French club Beziers. In the first match the Belarusians lost 2:3.

The second leg in Minsk started with confident attacks from Beziers. Minchanka made lots of mistakes and could not focus for a long time. As a result, Viktor Goncharov's Minchanka lost the first set 18:25.

Viktor Goncharov, head coach of VC Minchanka:
We need to analyze, we need to understand where and what we failed. Maybe the preparation was wrong for this period, because two days ago everyone was kind of ready, and today... I think it's all due to stress, our nerves.

After the first set, tension hung over the arena. However, the break benefited the Minsk squad a lot. The second set ended 25:16.

Then the game leveled up but the Belarusian team did manage to win the other two sets 25:15 and 25:13 and enter the quarterfinals of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup.

Elena Fedorinchik, VC Minchanka:
Of course, we are happy that we won, because the opponents' team is of a very high level, and the first place in the French Championships speaks volumes. Maybe the level of Belarusian volleyball is low, but at least two teams keep afloat, at the level of European volleyball.

Anna Grishkevich, VC Minchanka:
We played perfectly, we are happy. We relaxed in the first set but then managed to turn the game around.

Minchanka is creating history before our eyes. This is the first time Belarusians have reached the quarter-finals. In the next round, Viktor Goncharov's Minchanka will face one of the leaders of the European tournament - Russian Uralochka.
