Electric trains from Belarus to Klaipeda will start plying from 2022, after the railway section from the Belarusian-Lithuanian border to the port city has been electrified.

To electrify the way from the border to Klaipeda, Lithuanian authorities plan to spend 349.1 million euros. Most of the funds will come from the European Union, and the other part from Lithuanian Railways.

After full electrification, trains will travel from Belarus to Klaipeda. As expected, this should happen in 2022. Other details of the possible railway communication between the countries are not yet known.

The electrification of railways with a length of 28.6 kilometers, from the border to Kena, has already been completed. In 2018, the design of the remaining sections will begin.

Railway lines on other Lithuania's routes will be electrified, thanks to which high-speed electric trains will be able to travel around the country.
