Belarus in talks with EU on visa rules simplification

On January 30, Alexander Lukashenko met with Johannes Hahn, the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations.

Johannes Hahn has held this post since 2014. During this time, he has visited Belarus more than once. Now the relations between Belarus and the European Union are again the main topic for discussion.

Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations:
I am grateful for your words and I have to admit that the EU has faced a number of challenges in the past few years. Such a structure always has some problems: sometimes with internal processes, sometimes with external events.

Of course, we were affected by the financial and economic crisis, as well as the wave of migration. But, you know, this is one of the qualities of the structure, which is based on a strong foundation. The EU emerges stronger and more stable from all situations.

In 2016, Declaration on Partnership for Mobility between Belarus, the European Union and seven of its states was signed. Negotiations are now under way between the EU and Belarus to simplify visa procedures. In addition, the EU has always been and for the last year remains the second most important market for Belarusian exports. According to the results of January-November 2017, it amounted to almost $7 billion.
