Lukashenko: EaP must not become purely politicized organization

Belarus is ready to make any contribution to ensuring the security of the European continent, said the Belarus President on January 30 at a meeting with the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations.

In recent years, the dialogue between Belarus and the European Union has been developing well. Cooperation with the European Investment Bank has been established too.

In addition, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development fully works with the Belarusian public sector. Already, with the support of these two banks, a number of major projects for the modernization of transport, customs and water treatment infrastructures, as well as in the banking sector, are being prepared for implementation.

Belarus is interested in expanding economic ties with the European Union. At the meeting, the politicians also touched upon the Eastern Partnership Initiative (EaP). Alexander Lukashenko wished that it should be practical-oriented, and within its framework it should be possible to solve the tasks that are facing Europe, and also promote relevant projects.

Belarus cannot allow the Eastern Partnership to become a purely politicized organization.

Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus:
You know our position on Eastern Partnership. We pay great attention to our cooperation within the framework of this organization. And in this regard, you can count on us. Our desire is to make sure that the "Eastern Partnership" be practice-oriented, so that we in the framework of "Eastern Partnership" we could solve the problems that Europe faces, and to promote projects that are now very relevant, for example, energy, transport, logistics and other issues and problems, including the lives of people, visa issues, so that we can at a higher level and freely communicate with Europe and you should be able to come to Belarus freely.

Of course, no organization can exist without politics, but we cannot allow the "Eastern Partnership" to become a purely politicized organization. And we cannot set the EaP countries a goal to become a dividing zone between the EU and Russia, China and the East.

You can count on us. Belarus will always be committed to good-neighborliness and are ready to make any contribution to ensuring the security of the European continent. This is very important today.
