Results of Tissot UCI Track World Cup in Minsk

Natalia Tsilinskaya, the bronze Olympic champion, eight times world champion and the chairwoman of the Belarusian Cycling Federation, answered some of the questions in the CTV program “Sports Week”.

Minsk has hosted the last round of the 2017-18 Tissot UCI Track World Cup. Natalia, we would like to congratulate you and your team with this event. How can you estimate the scale of the competition?

Natalia Tsilinskaya, bronze Olympic champion, eight times World champion, chairwoman of the Belarusian Cycling Federation:
It is a truly grand sports competition. Athletes from 36 countries and, I think, 42 teams participated in the tournament. The level of the cyclists was very high. The same number of sportsmen will be at the World Cup. They are very strong athletes, because there are tournaments when only 10 or 12 countries participate. Nevertheless, Belarus managed to gather the elite of cycling sport. More than 300 athletes participated.

Why was this World Cup round so popular?

Natalia Tsilinskaya:
The cycling track in Minsk is superb, one of the best in Europe. The results the cyclists show here speak for themselves. The world record was nearly beaten here. I can’t remember how old this record is, but nobody can beat it. What is more, the World Cup is going to take place very soon. Athletes are now preparing for it. Therefore, the results are improving.
