Unique otolaryngology operations carried out in Belarus

Belarusian scientists and medical experts have developed a special model with the help of which operations on improving hearing are carried out.

The system’s aim is to create a gristle transplant for strengthening ear drums. Doctors examine a patient and carry out an operation which will help a person to improve his hearing at an early stage. There are no analogues like this in Belarus.

Marina Maisyuk, head of the children’s otolaryngology department at the Republican Center for Research and Practice in Otolaryngology:
Both children and adults can have hearing problems. But the problem can have no symptoms for a long time. In order to prevent the situation from getting worse, we decided to develop a special model together with the Belarusian State University, within the computer modeling first.

The illness of constantly blocked ears is quite often without any symptoms, and children come across this problem more often than adults do. Belarusian surgeons have carried out about 15 operations like these and all of them were successful.
