Belarus may ban non-recyclable packaging

Belarus is planning to ban the production of non-recyclable packages.

This initiative will be soon incorporated in regulatory documents. While discussing this issue, Belarusian authorities took into account international practices.

Alexander Korbut, deputy minister of natural resources and environmental protection of Belarus:
I think that firstly we need to implement limitations as there are some products that can be produced only in unrecyclable packages. That’s why we can’t totally ban these packages but there should be some limitations. If an unrecyclable package can be replaced by a recyclable one, then it must be done so.

To improve trash utilization process Belarus has applied measures such as separate waste collection and new waste plants. It’s planned to put into operation a waste incineration plant in Minsk by 2025; capacity of this plant will be 600,000 tons per year.
