The European Olympic Committees (EOC) hopes that Minsk will hold European games better than Baku, said the chief expert of the EOC on sport Asimakis Asimakopulos.

The Belarusian capital will host II Eurogames from June 21 to June 30, 2019. There will be 15 sports competitions, and athletes will compete at 12 venues. It is expected that about 4,000 athletes will arrive in Minsk, as well as 2,000 coaches and members of official delegations.

"There are differences in the process of preparing for the European Games in Baku and Minsk. Belarus has a completely different culture, different experience of sports events.

We expect that Eurogames in Minsk will be better. The question is how rationally and cleverly Minsk uses this time, which remains - it's 16 months.

But we expect a better level of Euro Games," said Asimakopoulos, who arrived in Minsk to participate in the meeting of the Directorate for EuroGames II.

The main expert of the EOC stressed that for the remaining time it is necessary to mobilize all forces in order to use the remaining time as efficiently as possible and useful.

"Certainly, Belarus is moving in the right direction in preparing for the 2019 European Games.

Belarus has a base on which it is possible to hold Games: facilities have already been built, there are excellent human resources and knowledge.

It remains to make sure it all complies with the requirements of the European Committees, and everything will be ok," concluded Asimakopoulos.
