IIHF WM U20: Denmark relegate Belarus

The Belarus U20 team lost to the Danes in shootout series 2:3 in the second relegation playoff match and has left the elite division of the World Championship again.

The loss in the first match (4:5) demanded that Yuri Faykov's wards have to win both of the remaining encounters, but already in the middle of the first period of the second game, Belarus were 0:2 behind.

In the second third of the game, the result remained the same, and in the third period Maxim Sushko and Ilya Litvinov in less than a minute equalized 2:2.

In the overtime, none of the teams could score, but in the shootout series the Danes were luckier.

At the WM in Buffalo, the Belarusian team never managed to win, losing to Sweden (1:6), Switzerland (2:3), Russia (2:5) and Czechs (5:6) as well as twice to Denmark (4:5 and 2:3). Kazakhstan have been promoted to the IIHF elite for the next season.
