Council of Europe planning to activate relations with juridical levels of Belarus

The Council of Europe is planning to activate the relations with all the juridical levels in Belarus.

This was stated by the Director General of the Directorate of Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Cristos Yakumopolos to the journalist in Minsk on December 19. Here in Belarus’ capital he has been taking part in the international conference “Appeal claims in the system of criminal law: reality, tendencies and prospects”. The issues of appeals in national and criminal processes, the role of a prosecutor and the experience of European Council members in implementing appeal claims institute were discussed there.

Cristos Yakumopolos considers that the current conference is a serious step towards the activation of relations between Belarus and the Council of Europe. And what is more, he considers the General Prosecution Office of Belarus and important and strategic partner in the relations with Belarus.

Appeal claims are a very important issue and the Council of Europe has been working with different countries concerning the matter for a long time now. Now the Council is hoping to activate its relations with Belarus.
