Belarusian beef given green light in China

The agricultural forum Made in Belarus took place on December 13 within the framework of the visit of the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus Leonid Zayats to China. During the forum the sides signed agreements on the supply of Belarusian agricultural products to China totaling $58 million, the website of the Belarusian embassy in China reports.

Earlier, during the meeting between Zayats and the head of the State Administration for Quality Control, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China, Zhi Shuping, it was announced that two Belarusian meat processing plants, Veles-Meat LLC and Mogilev Meat Processing Plant, received permission to supply beef to China.

Belarus became the 13th country in the world and the first in the CIS to have received accreditation for the supply of beef to the Chinese market.

Currently, China is the world's largest importer of beef, for example, in 2016 Belarus exported to China beef worth $2.6 billion.

Alexei Bogdanov, head of the department for foreign economic activities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, noted that in the first quarter of 2018 it is planned to agree on the opening of Belarusian enterprises for poultry meat export to China.

Bogdanov also recalled that Belarus is negotiating with the Chinese corporation DRex Food group to build a dairy farm for 40 thousand head of a dairy herd in the Vitebsk region of Belarus.

On December 13, Leonid Zayats and Belarusian Ambassador to China Kiryl Rudy met with the CEO of DRex Food Dai Shiwei. The parties discussed the timing of the signing of an investment agreement with the Vitebsk region, and agreed on the volume of supplies of Belarusian dairy products to China for 2018.

It is expected that the investment agreement will be signed after December 20, 2017.

As it was previously reported, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus in May 2017 signed a protocol of intent with the Chinese corporation DRex on direct investments in the agricultural sector of Belarus worth $1 billion.

The corporation intends to invest in the development of the dairy sector of our country, in particular, in the construction of dairy-commodity complexes and the modernization of processing enterprises.
