In 2019 Belarus will be hosting one of the most important sports events in Europe. The European Games 2019 will be held in Minsk. Thousands of fans will come to Belarus' capital and more than 4,000 athletes will compete for 189 sets of awards. But how ready are the sports facilities ready in Belarus’ capital to host such a grand event?

The deputy director of the Directorate of the Second European Games and the General Secretary of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus Anatoly Kotov has told the Channel Belarus 5 about the details of Minsk’s preparations to the Games in 2019.

“The main result of the meeting with the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Janez Kocijancic is hat Belarus is keeping to the schedule. As for the arenas, only the Dinamo stadium and the shooting range are being reconstructed. The rest sports facilities need some cosmetic renovation takig into consideration the specifics of the competitions which are to be held there.

It is one of the main reasons why Belarus agreed to host the European Games 2019.

As for the Dinamo stadium, everyone knows about the in-service dates there. As far as we know, the work is being organized so that the stadium will be put into service in 2018. It is better to do it a year before the European Games in Minsk begin. Nevertheless, June is the time when the time when the stadium should be put into commission. At the beginning of summer 2018 the stadium must be capable of holding sports event and opening ceremonies".
