Uber passenger dies in Belarus

A Dacia passenger has died in yesterday's traffic accident on the Minsk Ring Road. The driver of the car, as well as two passengers of the Peugeot minivan were taken to the hospital. Media report that the driver of Dacia worked for Uber and was carrying out the order.

From the impact Dacia, in which gas equipment was installed, caught fire. The minivan caught fire too. Workers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations put out both fires, but the cars were already damaged too badly.

Marina Drankova, an official representative of the Minsk City Department of Investigative Committee, reported that a passenger (a man born in 1978) died in the accident. He was sitting in the front seat of the Dacia. The driver of this car was taken to hospital. It is reported that he was released home after medical assistance.

Also, according to the Investigative Committee, two passengers were injured in the Peugeot but they don't have serious injuries.

Uber has commented on the accident.

"We express our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. At the moment, we are figuring out the circumstances of the incident and in connection with our partner - the carrier company, of which the driver is a member. The accident happened after the trip with this driver was completed. We are ready to provide maximum assistance to law enforcement agencies in the investigation of the incident. Uber Belarus cooperates only with legal entities and individual entrepreneurs carrying out a licensed type of activity. Insurance and reimbursement issues are regulated by the current legislation," the company said.

On the fact of the traffic accident, a criminal case was instituted for "Violation of traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle, resulting in the death of a person through imprudence".
