American escapes from Belarusian ice hockey club

American Ryan Walters has escaped from one of the best Belarusian ice hockey clubs Yunost. The American stayed in Minsk Yunost for only a couple of months, after which he packed up his things and went home. One of the main reasons was probably the financial side of the question, said} in head coach Mikhail Zakharov.

We were transferred from the big arena to a small one, and not every foreigner agrees to such conditions. But we could not provide Walters with everything we promised.

True, he could leave in a more friendly way, at least say goodbye. But in this case he just left. WE come in the morning and Ryan is not here. His apartment is locked. He did not even pay for it. In general, he just ran away.

Ryan Walters, 26, was born in Minnesota. He spent several years in the main junior league of the United States (USHL), then entered the university and competed in the NCAA for the Nebraska-Omaha team. He did not qualify for the draft. Immediately after the university he received a bilateral contract (AHL-ECHL). He played for farm clubs of Islanders and Minnesota. Walters played 32 AHL matches, in which he scored 10 (2+8) points.

In the East Coast League, Walters was good. In his last season he scored 69 (30+39) points in 72 games and was the captain of the team. Perhaps his leadership and striker's qualities lured the leadership of Yunost.

Walters played for HC Yunost well. Zakharov used Walters in both the center and on the flank. In the summer, the American experienced what it was like to play against the KHL teams. At the Cup of Minsk Yunost fought against Dinamo Minsk and Dinamo Moscow as well as against Yugra. We remember Walters for a lot of shots, passion and a goal against Yugra.

In the championship of Belarus, Ryan had impressive statistics - more than 1 point for the match on average.

In 10 games, Walters scored 15 (7+8) points. But here's the thing: in the matches against the favorites of the championship, Ryan did not score at all. Absolutely all his points were scored in the matches against middle-table teams or outsiders.

The American had it hard to adapt to Belarusian life. Ryan almost did not communicate with anyone in the team, except that a little with other international players. When the team arrived at Chizhovka for training on the day of the game, Walters stayed in the arena until evening, while the rest of the hockey players went to rest at home.

In addition, the American visited the cemetery to honor the memory of Ruslan Salei together with the team.

In September, Ryan was joined by his girlfriend - pretty Mirela. The couple went together to expensive Minsk restaurants.

Now Ryan is playing in the USA in the ECHL and the Belarusian team cannot sue him for what he did: European contracts are not taken into account in the USA.
