Les Amoureux by Chagall sold for $28.5m at Sotheby's

The painting "Lovers" (Les Amoureux), written by a native of Vitebsk Marc Chagall in 1928, was auctioned for a record $28.5 million. In it, the artist portrays himself in an embrace with his first wife and muse Bella Rosenfeld.

The name of the buyer was not disclosed.

In July 2017, Belarus celebrated 130th anniversary of Marc Chagall. He was born in Belarus town of Vitebsk. 

In addition to graphics and painting, he also did scenography and wrote poetry in Yiddish. 

He is one of the most famous representatives of the artistic avant-garde of the XX century. Chagall is a pride of not only Belarus, but also Russia, the United States, Israel, France and Switzerland, where he also worked.
