Alexander Hleb speaks about his child and career

Alexander Hleb, six-time Best Footballer of Belarus, winner of the UEFA Champions League, has given an interview to the CTV channel.

It turns out, Alexander, that you’ve been in football for 30 years already! Of my God! How did it all start?

Alexander Hleb:
It was my father who took me to football. It was such a day... Very rich in events. In principle, there was still Soviet Union, we all played football in the courtyard, and I did not think much about the professional sport.

It was necessary to do something...

Alexander Hleb:
Yes, I even did gymnastics...

Why did dad choose football?

Alexander Hleb:
He's a fan. He is a crazy football fan!

If your father adored hockey, would you become a hockey player?

Alexander Hleb:
I think yes. He took me to a football academy. I did not really want to. It was raining. He brought me, the children were already training and the coach said: "Come another time!" But I was soaked, I was angry. And in the end, the coach saw that I was angry, and said: "Okay, change clothes..." So it began...

But this character trait, that you say, "I'm angry"... Does it help in the game?

Alexander Hleb:
Yes. I was very angry, nervous and never liked losing. Always loved to achieve something. Of course, it helped me.

I understand that you hardly remember this, but when did you understand that you're better than other kids out there?

Alexander Hleb:
On the first day.

First day? What should a person have to understand that they are thr future Alexander Hleb?

Alexander Hleb:
Probably, the most important thing is that your name is Alexander Hleb (laughs). I just did it. I've always been sharp. And, of course, I had the physical abilities for football.

Did your father play football?

Alexander Hleb:
He was a fan of teams, he rooted for Dinamo Minsk.

I saw Ronaldo on Instagram, he has a son who also plays football very cool... Do you think this is inherited?

Alexander Hleb:
Strictly speaking, I heard something different. I heard that nature does not want a father and a child to be both good players.

Since we have already started talking about Arsenal, what is it like to work with footballers and overcoming language barriers? Do players communicate outside the pitch?

Alexander Hleb:
This is very important. Football is a collective sport and, of course, interaction on the field, conversation and support are all necessary. We of course talked outside the field, too. This is the key thing in order to feel football.

You have a wealth of experience. You know different football cultures. The English Premier League is considered the most difficult in terms of physics. Were you physically scared?

Alexander Hleb:
I was not scared. It really was a different football. He was very fast, dynamic and powerful. Now, of course, it has changed. But when I came, yes, it was pure power football: it was a struggle, of course, it was hard, it was necessary to adapt quickly. Wenger supported us. I needed 4-5 months to get used to it.

Alexander, you're a young dad. What is it like to be the father of a girl?

Alexander Hleb:
This, of course, is cool. The first time, when the child is small, you do not understand the responsibility but you gradually realize it. The response - a smile - is invaluable.

Everything about a child is incredible. Now this is an impetus for me to go forward and this is my whole life now!
