Belarus President: Hope Azarenka will return to show world class

On November 12, Alexander Lukashenko met with the President of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) David Haggerty and the leaders of a number of national tennis federations and international sports associations.

The conversation took place between the final games of the Federation Cup, which took place in Minsk. The Belarusian tennis players fought bravely but eventually lost 2:3 to the USA.

"I firmly promise you as leaders of international, European and Russian tennis and huge tennis fans, that Belarus will say its loud word in tennis soon. I hope that Azarenka will also say her word too," the press service of President Lukashenko reports.

He noted the arrival of the best tennis players from the United States in Belarus as a good sign. "I told my girls the day before that they made a huge step forward and for the first time in the history of Belarus we brought here the best tennis players from a country with well-developed tennis," Lukashenko praised the Belarusian girls Aryna Sabalenka and Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

The Belarusian leader said that this will give a good impetus to the development of tennis in Belarus, especially since our team is still quite young and somewhat inexperienced. As an example, he mentioned Aryna Sabalenka's game against CoCo Vandeweghe

According to President Lukashenko, the Belarusian had a chance to win the game, but she lacked experience. At the same time, he added that Sabalenka has a great future ahead "if she works on herself".

Chairman of the Belarusian Tennis Federation Sergey Teterin, President of the Tennis Federation of the United States, Katrina Adams, President of the Tennis Federation of France Bernard Giudicelli, President of the Tennis Federation of Russia Shamil Tarpischev, President of the European Tennis Federation, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Tennis Federation Vladimir Dmitriev and President of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations Francesco Ricci-Bitti.

At the end of the meeting, Alexander Lukashenko was presented with a copy of the Federation Cup, the main trophy of the largest international team tournament in women's tennis.
