Sabalenka on defeat against Vandeweghe in 2017 Fed Cup final

Belarusian tennis players Aryna Sabalenka and Aliaksandra Sasnovich commented on their matches of the second day of the Fed Cup final 2017.

Sabalenka met with American CoCo Vandeweghe and lost 6:7, 1:6 in the third rubber of the Fed Cup final.

Q: Did the night match against Stephens affect your actions? Maybe you did not have time to recover, maybe you were emotionally tired?

A: There was nothing of the sort. I was not tired, I came out against Vandeweghe with renewed energy. I was not even upset about losing in the tiebreaker. Well, I was, of course, upset, but not enough to give up playing. Especially in the first set I had a lot of chances to win, there was even a set ball, I was 4:1 in front in the tiebreak. But it did not work out.

I came out in the second set with a desire to reverse the course of the match, but it turns out she broke me. However, I do not know yet whether it was the American that ruined my tennis or it was me stopping playing it myself. I will still think about this issue.

Q: What did you take out of this match?

A: After such fights against the world elite you are enriched with an invaluable experience, you become more confident. For example, I clearly understand that even now I can play on equal terms with such cool rivals, I understand that I can achieve results against them.

Q: What did coach Eduard Dubrov tell you after the lost match?

A: The captain said: "It's all right, Aryna. We'll cope with it!"

Belarusian tennis player Aliaksandra Sasnovich told media about her match of the second day, against US Open champion Sloane Stephens, which she surprisingly won 4:6, 6:1, 8:6.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich:
It was one of the most intense matches in my career, emotions overwhelmed me. We played every ball with super maximum energy - that was incredible tennis. At some point, when things went wrong, I just said to myself: "Now, Sasha, calm down."

I had problems with returns in the first set, in the second I played more confidently, and in the third the god of tennis decided to give me the victory. The fans helped a lot: that was incredible support and I even couldn’t hear myself amid that roar.”
