Sabalenka equalizes for Belarus vs USA in Fed Cup 2017 final

Belarus has made the score 1:1 in the Fed Cup 2017 final tie against Team USA. In the second rubber, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus defeated US Sloane Stephens in a difficult match, 6:3, 3:6, 6:4.

Chizhovka Arena hosted two matches of the Fed Cup 2017 final on November 11, 2017. President Alexander Lukashenko attended the first match between Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich and tennis player from the USA Coco Vandeweghe. Before the match began, he talked to the tennnis players, wished them luck in the games.

Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich and tennis player from the USA Coco Vandeweghe played on the court first. From the very beginning of the match it became clear that neither of the players intend giving in. Nevertheless, the American athlete was luckier. Coco Vandeweghe won with scores 6:4 and 6:4 in two sets.  Therefore, the USA tennis team was leading with a score of 1:0.

However, Belarus’ tennis racket number one (78th position in WTA rating) Aryna Sabalenka brought the first winning point for team Belarus. She played against US Sloane Stephens and the match turned out to be difficult. The Belarusian tennis player confidently began the match and won the first set with a score 6:3.

Aryna Sabalenka began making many mistakes in the second set, but Sloane Stephens decided not to take any risks. This tactic helped the American athlete win the second set with a score 6:3.

The third set was very tough and difficult for both the tennis players. The rivals were taking over the serves. The athletes had to take six breaks in the first six games. Nevertheless, the luck was on Aryna Sabalenka’s side. She continued actively receiving the tennis ball and the set ended with a score of 6:4. Belarus equalized the score 1:1 in the Fed Cup 2017.
