Bernd Stange: Alex Hleb mistreated in Belarus

Former head coach of the national team of Belarus Bernd Stange commented on the unsuccessful return to FC BATE of midfielder Alexander Hleb, and also stated his readiness to contribute to the holding of the farewell match for the playmaker.

"In my time, Hleb and Kutuzov played in strong leagues abroad and Kornilenko and Kalachev had prominent roles in the Russian Premier League. And now what?

By the way, I heard that Hleb was ready to play for BATE free of charge, but the club refused him. I do not know the reasons - maybe it would hurt the players who are on the contract...

But in the past Alexander helped the Borisov club and the national team. He is still in shape, there is no excess weight. It is quite capable of playing up to forty, as Kulchy did.

This is the best football player of Belarus of all times - even stronger than Belkevich and Khatskevich. He deserves a farewell match, which could be timed to the opening of the renovated Dinamo stadium

We could invite a top team for such a case - for example, Germany. I am ready to help with that friendly, but we need to know the dates in advance - the Bundesteam has everything planned well in advance.

Although I should say it is not easy to work with Hleb. It seems to me that he was terribly offended at me because I took the captain's armband from him. Alex was often absent due to injuries and other causes, and I gave the armband to Zhevnov.

Now I think that I made a mistake. After all, Hleb is a legend. But his behavior and way of life sometimes caused problems," Stange said.
