Köln wants win against BATE in reverse EL match

The fourth-round match of the Europa League group stage against BATE will be very difficult, but the opponent must be defeated, said Köln head coach Peter Stöger at a press conference on November 1.

We lost last games with a minimum score. And it was a blow for us: we acted very well, but we lacked some little things, which are difficult to analyze and correct when you play one match in three days, the Austrian manager said.

I do not want to talk about the tasks in the Europa League now. We are completely concentrated on tomorrow's match, on these 90 minutes, which are coming. We want and we can win. Especially in front of our fans," Stöger said.

After three matches in the Europa League, Köln has zero points. On October 19 in Borisov, the Germans were defeated 0:1 (Rios, 55). During the 10 tours of Bundesliga, Köln lost eight times and drew another two. The only success this season is a victory in the last 32 of the German Cup.

"Unlike players, I'm more patient, but every time I hope that in the next game luck will definitely come. And if this finally happens, it will be a big step forward in our development," said the coach.

51-year-old Stöger admitted this stage is the most difficult during his work in Koln (from 2013). "Every three days I have to answer unpleasant questions. However, there were more complicated periods in my life. For example, when I was unemployed," he said.

Peter said he knows about BATE's problems in the domestic championship. "The team has become the champion of their country so many times, and now they are only third. For our part, we are looking for positive aspects in our game and rely on them. Tomorrow, a lot of factors will be decisive, and the psychological state is one of them."

Köln goalie Timo Horn said the team looked good in matches against the rivals in the Europa League. In Borisov, the game was equal, but we lacked creativity in attacks," said the goalkeeper.

According to him, last season the team showed an outstanding result (fifth place) and got into European cups for the first time in a quarter of a century.

"The dream came true. And we want to take the opportunity to successfully perform at this level. We need to get out of the pit into which we got. No one will help us except ourselves. Tomorrow we can correct our mistakes," the goalkeeper noted.

Köln v BATE game will be held on November 2.

Standings in group H: Arsenal - 9 points (goal difference 8-3), BATE - 4 (4-5), Crvena Zvezda - 4 (2-2), Köln - 0 (1-5). BATE are ahead of Crvena Zvezda, because they scored more away goals in head-to-head matches (1:1 in Belgrade), although the reverse fixture in Borisov is still due. Two best teams from each group go to the last 32.

BATE head coach Alexander Ermakovich is also expected to give a press conference tonight.
