Promising Belarusians from US junior ice hockey leagues

The season in the USA's juniors leagues has gained momentum. There are also some Belarusians to watch, and here is their list - from the league of Ontario to the Junior League of the United States.

The forward of the junior team of Belarus Artem Baltruk left Edmonton Oil Kings, for which he played in 2016-2017. During 65 matches in the WHL (Western Hockey League) Baltruk scored 5 (3+2) points with a "-21" utility score. Such figures did not prevent Artem from becoming one of the leaders of the WM18 in Slovakia in the spring of 2017. This year, Baltruk played five games for Edmonton, after which the contract with him was terminated. Now Belarus is waiting for him at the November camp.

Similarly, the contract was terminated with Siarhei Sapeha. The defenseman began the year at Tri-City Americans. But Sapeha did not stay without a club for a long time and soon joined another team from the WHL - Prince Albert Raiders.

Here is the list of promising Belarusians. They dream of getting into the NHL…

Maxim Sushko (striker, 18 years old, Owen Sound Attack)

Statistics: 12 matches, 9+5, +5, 12 penalty minutes

In the summer, Sushko was drafted by Philadelphia. In the autumn he went for a week to the Flyers' camp and then headed for Owen Sound to gain some more experience. The more successful this season will be for Maxim in the league of Ontario, the more likely the chances of a debut in the strongest league of the world.

So far, everything is going well. The striker left the ice without points only in three games of the season, and October 14 will remain forever in the memory of the hockey player. On this day, Sushko made his first poker in the Canadian junior league against Oshawa Generals. Prior to him only three Belarusians made a poker in the OHL Jeoff Platt, Charles Linglet and Mikhail Stefanovich.

Right now Sushko is the team's fourth best scorer.

Vladislav Eremenko (defender, 18 years old, Calgary Hitmen)

Statistics: 15 matches, 3+9, +5, 4 penalty minutes

Eremenko played well last season as well. And many firmly believed that the defender will go to the draft. Moreover, according to pre-drift estimates, he was by no means the worst. But in the end, no NHL club took interest in Vladislav.

This season, Eremenko continues to be the leader of Calgary. His team is not the strongest, but it may be for the better - the Belarusian can stand out against the backdrop of the partners. The Belarusian defenseman is the second best striker of Hitmen. He is the best in terms of utility at Calgary. Perhaps, he is the most important person in the team.

Igor Martynov (striker, 18 years old, Victoria Royals)

Statistics: 16 matches, 5+4, +5, 16 penalty minutes

Martynov hit the import draft of the CHL in 2016, but did not make it into his team. From the second attempt he did conquer America. Well, at least, we managed to start playing.

Martynov is far from being a leader at Victoria - he is only 10th in the total points table. Igor lacks stability: several matches in a row with the assists can be replaced by a dry period.

His alley-oop pass was nominated for the moment of the week in the Western League. Martynov took second place in the end.

Martynov plays in the best team of the Western League. In any case, it's the best at the moment.

Vladislav Mikhalchuk (striker, 18 years old, Prince George Cougars)

Statistics: 13 matches, 4+2, -4, 10 penalty minutes

The strong forward is also included in the top 10 scorers of his team. But he lacks stability too. For example, until this weekend Vladislav remained silent for almost three weeks, which is five matches.

Andrei Pavlenko (striker, 17 years old, Edmonton Oil Kings)

Statistics: 14 matches, 3+1, -6, 10 penalty minutes

Another stalwart striker, who is almost 190 centimeters high at his 17. He had a terrific start in the WHL making a double in the first game against Red Deer Rebels. But after the starting performance, the next puck came only in a month. Edmonton is not the top team of the league, but it should be good for Pavlenko's development.

The double of Belarus Pavlenko in the first match in the WHL

Siarhei Sapeha (defender, 18 years old, Trie-City Americans / Prince Albert Raiders)

Statistics: 10 matches, 1+4, -4, 4 penalty minutes

We have already told you about the Vitebsk defenseman at the beginning of the text. He managed to change the team, but this means that the guy is not hopeless and at least someone is still interested in him. In the fourth match for the Raiders Sapeha scored a spectacular double - a goal plus a pass. Siarhei does not shoot a lot during matches (less than once on average per game), but benefits the team in other ways.

Pavel Azhgirei (striker, 17 years old, Everett Silvertips)

Statistics: 4 matches, 0+1, -1, 2 penalty minutes

This Belarusian has the hardest time in the WHL. He does not have a solid place in the Everett, but he occasionally gets to the roster. His last game was on October 22. It's hard with scoring points now. Let's just wish him luck.

Ilya Sushko (defenseman, 19 years old, Cedar Rapids Roughriders)

Statistics: 6 matches, 0+0, +2, 4 penalty minutes

Sushko Sr. left for America later than his brother and is now trying to prove himself in the strongest junior league of the United States. The defenseman's team is not bad - it is now in the middle of the Eastern Conference with four victories in seven matches. Ilya missed only one match.
