Belarusian athletes to get $150,000 for gold at Winter Olympic Games 2018

There are only 100 days left to the Winter Olympic Games. The most important Games of the four years will officially open on February 9, 2018 in South Korea’s PyeongChang. About 2.5 thousand sportsmen will be competing for the medals in 13 kinds of winter sports. Currently, Belarus has more than 20 licenses to partake in the Winter Olympics. The main medals hopes are connected with biathlon and freestyle.

What is more, the prize money has significantly increased if to compare with the Winter Olympics in Russia’s Sochi in 2014. The amount of money reward for Belarusian sportsmen, who will win medals at the Winter Olympic Games 2018, has been determined.

Alexander Baraulya, Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister of the Republic of Belarus, head of the team Belarus mission at the 23rd Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang:
Upon the order of the President of Belarus, the prize money rewards have been determined on the analogy with the Olympic Games in Rio:$150 thousand for gold, $75 thousand for silver and $50 for bronze.

The Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister also added that the prize money awards have also been determined for Belarusian sportsmen of the Winter Paralympics: $50 thousand for gold, $30 thousand for silver and $20 thousand for bronze. He also added that the ministry has no claims against the numbers.

It is worth mentioning that at the Olympic Games in Sochi, representatives of Belarus received 110 thousand euros for gold, 55 thousand euros for silver and 37 thousand euros for bronze.
