Local elections in Belarus due February 18, 2018

The draft decree to appoint elections in Belarus to the local Councils of Deputies was sent to the Council of Ministers and the State Control Committee. On October 27, the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, Lidia Yermoshina, said this at a meeting with the activists of the public organization Belaya Rus.

Now more than 5,000 representatives of Belaya Rus are deputies of local councils.

In total, there are about 19,000 local deputies in Belarus. The nearest elections to local councils will be held in early 2018.

Lidia Yermoshina, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus:
The draft decree on the appointment of elections has already been sent for approval to the Council of Ministers, to the State Control Committee. Upon receipt of the answer (we think it will be next week) we will send it to the head of state for consideration and signing.

This is the only possible date, even according to the timetable. So we can state that the local elections in Belarus will be held on the last possible day - February 18, 2018.  The elections will be held in accordance with the current legislation.

Local elections procedure

The first stage after the announcement of elections is the formation of territorial commissions. There will be 1,315 of them in Belarus.

Then, precinct and district commissions are created, and nomination of candidates for deputies begins.

There are three ways of nomination in Belarus: from political parties, from labor collectives and from individual citizens by collecting signatures.
